Modern technology has totally spreading globally and it has a huge impact to humans. One of the most significant sample of this was the computer. Computer plays an important role in terms of the revolution of technology. Computer itself would not be possible without its Operating System. Operating system is actually a system software which manages both the computer hardware and software which provide specific tasks for computer programs that tells the computer what to do. Operating system was considered as the foundation of computers. There are mainly three identified well known Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. Comparing the three identified OS’s functions, Microsoft Windows was the most popular operating system. It was developed, marketed and sold by Microsoft as a graphical operating system which is typically associated with IBM PC compatible architecture for MS-DOS in response to the rising interest in graphical user interfaces. In Microsoft windows every application will surely work on it. As a popular OS among them all, it is considered as having many users which you may find someone who can help you about it. Then when you explore Microsoft Windows you can find that there are many functions you can do easily and faster. But when it comes to viruses, you must by an antivirus nevertheless they offer free trials. Another OS was the Macintosh operating system or most commonly known as Mac OS which was developed by Apple Inc., Basically it includes graphical user interface designed for the use of Macintosh series of personal computers as well as the related system software it once created for compatible third party systems. When it comes to viruses Mac OS get almost no viruses. Mac OS only runs on Apple computers which helps software and hardware from crashing. But Mac OS was expensive compared to Windows and it is available only on Apple computers and other Mac products. Last identified OS was Linux, Linux is basically a unix-like computer operating system which is known for its model of free and open-source software. It was developed for personal computers based on the Intel x86 architecture. It is a free OS which you can just download it and install it for free. It is not a full operating system thus it’s just a kernel. But Linux was a complicated OS since it requires much knowledge about OS before using it. It has only few programs unlike the Windows. And among them all Linux was the least in terms of market share. Critical not only to the function, operating system lies primarily in our daily lives. If I were asked if what operating system would I prefer to use as an official operating system for the Electrical Engineering course in our school which is the University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP), I would likely choose Microsoft windows. Unlike the other two OS’s, Windows was much more usable which has a lot of programs and functions and thus much more affordable and Microsoft Windows is a user friendly OS. It was proven and tested that most of us preferred using Microsoft Windows since it is easier to access and to work on. But there was no such thing that other OS are not reliable but it was just Microsoft Windows was the best among them all.
