“I didn’t think I would be back here again…” Her heart was pounding in her chest, and her mind was filled with a hundred images of their last few days together, back when she had tucked her tail between her legs and ran. It was easier to run from everything that to actually face her fears. “I thought I’d stay forever in Azarath.”

“But you didn’t.” His voice was pitched low, and he took a step closer to her. “You came back.”

Raven nodded. She had felt like she had rehearsed a hundred different speeches to explain herself, but they all seemed to die on her tongue. Instead, she met his eyes as he approached her, pressed her into the wall, crowded her space until it felt like she was breathing a hundred different reiterations of him. Raven’s head tilted back on her shoulders and she looked up into his face, wondering when in the hell he had gotten so damn tall. She felt like something tiny and breakable next to him.

“You’ve been gone for two years, Raven.” His voice was a dangerous growl, and he pressed his hand into the wall next to her. “I thought you were never coming back.”

“I… I wasn’t planning on it.” And that was the truth. It was never in the plan to come back, but here she was. Here he was. And they were alone in his apartment. And Raven was suddenly acutely aware of how much she ached for him. “I was planning on staying in Azarath. I-”

“Shut up.”

The rough growl to his voice made her shiver, and Raven snapped her mouth shut before she said something that would break this moment. A soft, almost silent gasp escaped, and she tilted her head up towards his, feeling heat slip down her spine and pool in the pit of her stomach. It was like her dreams all over again - the rush of need, the aching feeling of knowing exactly what he offered, and somehow uncertain if she was allowed to have it.

She felt his fingers wrap around her thin wrist, and he leaned closer, his breath ghosting over her lips.

“Shut up.” Damian’s voice was lower somehow, and he sounded like he controlled shadows of his own making. “I need… I need to know you’re real.”

Before Raven could even wrap her mind around what he was asking, she felt his lips slide against hers in a kiss so desperate, it felt like he was breaking every bone in her body. Her fingers tangled in the front of his soft cotton shirt, pulling him closer until she wasn’t sure where he began and she ended. He shivered against her, his fingers slipping under the hem of her shirt to slide along the soft skin of her hips. Raven groaned against his mouth, a curse slipping through her lips before she could stop herself.

Damian groaned against her and his fingers bit into the soft flesh of her hips. “Raven, just… just let me have this moment.”

She sighed, knowing how much she missed this too.
