“But why wrap it in cord?”

“To hold on the doo-dads.”

“OK, fine—though we’ll have to set aside the question of why it’s covered in doo-dads in the first place. Even so, what about all the cordage that isn’t, you know, holding down any doo-dads?”

“Uh... somebody must be into tying knots.”

“Excuse me?”

“I mean, whoever’s decorating these old guns from the K1 armory must just like tying stuff up. You’re right: there’s no practical purpose for the cord down the barrel, so I guess it’s gotta be just because somebody likes tying stuff.”

“But... to just tie cords around a rifle for no reason... just because you like tying knots... it only raises more questions...”

“Eh, I dunno. We all decorate our gear somehow or other.”

“A shader, a decal, an ornament—those things I understand, even if they also sometimes verge on the impractical. But this? Corded textiles, in addition to the other tchotchkes? It boggles the mind.”

“Well, when your mind’s done boggling, you can just cut off the cords if they bother you so much.”

“Now there’s an idea.”

Liz: I didn’t lose any sleep over it.

Red: You will. One of these nights you will. It’s just a matter of when.

Fulton: Recommending reinstatement would be a no-brainer if not for her relationship with you.

Red: Remind me. Was “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” a psychological theory first pioneered by Piaget or Lucy in “Peanuts”?

Dr Fulton: She murdered the attorney general of the United States...Some kids run from their father’s sins. She embraces them....“Fidelity. Bravery. Integrity.” This is the Bureau’s motto. I understand that they are a metallic based species but it makes me wonder if certain things transcend the flesh, so to speak.
