that's a good question! do you know anything about the boarding school? i'm sure there are some that are great (or just like... not traumatic). i think what's most important is how you feel like things are going in the present moment with the therapist, but i would feel hesitant about seeing someone who had worked in a place like islandview. that just might be my personal vulnerability though; they could still be a helpful therapist!

you’re 100% correct - those types of treatments did set me back in some ways and totally cemented that association of needing to be sick to get care/support/love. however, honestly, i don’t know what i would have done differently. i got very used to being a mental patient which has been hard to change, but i also know that 3East saved my life without a doubt. i often describe 3East as having been the place that helped me survive, whereas the gunderson residence helped me become a (mostly) functional adult. if i could change one thing, i definitely wouldn’t have gone to islandview. that place was harmful in every way. but other than that, i think each treatment helped me grow in different ways.
