Iskalium: The science!
Letβs get the facts about iskalium right out the way first: -Green. -Can be found as an ore. (Naturally spawning.) -Provides power when pressure is applied. -Can be made into a reactor, most definitely radioactive. -Found below y12, always in one block with cobblestone, sand, gravel or air around it. -You need a diamond pickaxe to mine the ore but you can mine the block with your hand. -Emits low light level. -energy at 160RF per tick
What is an ore? Ore: Noun, Oxford Definition: An ore is natural rock or sediment that contains desirable minerals, typically metals, that can be extracted from it. From this we can infer that Iskallium is most likely a metal.
What are the properties of a metal? -Conducts both heat and electricity well (check?) -Has a high melting and boiling point (check?) -Has a high density (problematic) -Ductile and Malleable. (Maybe?)
Iskalium is often portrayed as being a power source when pressure is applied meaning itβs likely piezoelectric. Or, it would be if my theory wasnβt busted: Piezoelectric is only available in crystals and metals are almost always polycrystalline. However, there are exceptions like amorphous metal and single-crystal metals. A microscopically-small piece of metal may naturally form into a single crystal, but larger pieces generally do not. So theoretically, Iskallium is most likely not piezoelectric unless itβs tiny, which a 1m cubed block of iskalium, is not.
And then I had a thought. Can metal just be a power source anyway? Metal can actually be a power source but only if itβs really thin. Which, a 1m cubed block of iskalium, is not.
So, iskalium is an impossible, energy producing metal? Yeah, basically.However, thereβs one note saving this: iskalium is used in a reactor meaning itβs most certainly radioactive. Perhaps this is why itβs green? The fact that cobblestone spawns around it is also strange. It implies the stone is cracked or damaged which means it emits heat energy. However, this doesnβt explain the sand, gravel or air. I mean, the gravel could possibly be the stone got so cracked it became gravelly in texture and air could be the stone disappeared altogether, but that still doesnβt explain the sand.
Continuing off of that, Iskalium is also highly unstable as it needs a catalyst (redstone) in order to be crafted into power tap.
Iskalium is dense because itβs a metal but not dense because itβs a sediment ore. However itβs dense because you need a diamond pickaxe to mine it but not dense because you can mine it with your hand. Do you see why this metal is causing me so much grief?
Finally, after 3 stressful hours of research, I asked my brother who knows a lot about the periodic table to help. He reviewed my knowledge and narrowed what iskalium may possibly be most similar to down to a few elements. Considering it doesnβt melt your hand off, it wasnβt one of the super dangerous ones like francium. Considering itβs naturally spawning and not man made, there goes elements like flerovium and tennessine. Itβs also a metal so there goes a lot of the stuff on the right. He also got rid of all the elements that donβt produce heat. (There was more but the reasons were too complex for my stupid brain.)

So we ended up nailing it down to a few actinides and a few other late table elements. Β He says itβs most like thorium but the others are also valid. My brother is very trustworthy, heβs in top set year 8 chemistry and physics.
So in conclusion, Iskallium makes some sense but this was more trouble than its worth. Anyway, time for me to make some headcanons.
