Built around 1130 to 1150AD, the church stands on the site of ground sacred to the Saxon god Woden (equivalent to the Norse god Odin). It’s a little out of the way to visit and requires some walking, which adds to the secluded feel. It’s a little more squat and long compared to many other Norman churches, and something about it draws you inside. Being in the church alone you get a strange feeling, one that’s difficult to put your finger on.
