Musings of a short fairy tale found in an old diary. I think this was based on a dream I had.
Once upon a time there was a prince who had everything he could ever have. He was smart, kind, and it was foreseen for him to become a great ruler for the kingdom. One day while walking on the king’s hunting grounds, he saw a strange woman with a hood trespassing. The woman asked the prince to not make her leave, for she was in search for a blue flower. The King’s forest soil was rich in magic, so only blue roses may grow there.
The prince asked her only to remove her hood just to confirm that she was not a witch. “If you see my face,” the woman spoke, “You will be turned into a wolf.”
The curiosity overwhelmed to prince, because he would never help a witch. After chasing her the strange woman he forced her hood off, and he laid eyes on the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. She was so beautiful that he didn’t not notice his could feel his skin growing grey fur, his hands turned into paws and his nails turned into claws.
“I had warned you!” the woman cried out. “I was cursed by a jealous witch, who wanted to steal my face. After failing multiple attempts, she was able to curse me to never marry.” The beautiful woman sobbed. “Now any man I look at is just as cursed is I am. The only cure is to kiss the petals of a blue rose. I was told they can only grow in these woods.”
The Wolf Prince acknowledged what the beautiful woman was saying, though when he attempted a reply to respond, only a bark would erupt from his throat. The woman smiled beautifully at the Wolf Prince. The smile of the woman was a moon beam on a starry night, shining so clearly in the darkness that surrounded them. “If I find the blue rose, you will turn back into your original form, Prince.” The woman explained. “Will you help me?”
The Wolf Prince barked happily, knowing that he could return to his form. In three days, they traveled together, searching all over the woods for the rare blue rose. The Wolf Prince would hunt for food and his fur would keep the woman warm at night.
On the third evening where the full moon bloomed the companions came across a clearing in which a blue rose had settled within a wall of thorns. Upon attempting to cut through, the thorns grew back thicker, and easily sliced through the woman’s skin. Only the Wolf Prince could crawl through the mass of thorns, while his thick fur protected him the thorns’ harshness.
The Wolf Prince was able to make his way to the clearing and plucked the blue rose with his teeth. He retrieved it to the woman, and placed it in her hands. After thanking the Wolf Prince for all of his help, she kissed the blue petals. The prince’s instantly fur shed off and his claws and paws turned into his hands.
The prince and the woman arrived back to the castle where the King and Queen and his servants welcomed him with opened arms. The Prince had introduced the woman to his parents, where they threw a gigantic feast in her honor before the Prince wed her. After his father passed and inherited the title King, he did indeed become a great ruler for the kingdom.
