venom and eddie had separated. again. it had been a stupid argument, but venom was tired of eddie's bullshit. so, he left. it detached from eddie and left the apartment through the window the human had opened earlier that day, ignoring his angry outbursts that melted into halfhearted, shallow apologies.
venom spent the majority of its evening inhabiting others' bodies to get around the city quicker, exiting each host before he could start to do any lasting damage to their internal organs. no host fit the same as eddie did, but venom didn't want to think about eddie. venom didn't know when he would return, but it knew that it wouldn't be returning tonight. eddie would be just fine without it, without the parasitic nuisance that he was. a parasitic nuisance — at least, in eddie's own words. he'd said it with such conviction, it had to be true.
the symbiote left its final host of the night as it grew bored and slipped down a sewer grate in its amorphous state, beginning to traverse freely among the sewer system to get as far away from eddie's apartment as he could. venom had no distinct end goal in mind beyond "get as far away from eddie as possible".
a bright light abruptly swallowed the symbiote whole as he traversed the sewers. then, there was silence that accompanied the light. the ambient sounds of the city had come to an abrupt halt. no cars beeping in the distance, no chatter of passerbys — only complete silence, like they had just... disappeared. it would've been peaceful, had it not been so unsettling.
then, there was complete darkness. total darkness that hadn't previously accompanied his dim surroundings, like he had entered a void.
suddenly he was plunged into a thick water, and he lost all traction on the ground that no longer existed beneath him. venom's tendrils extended out to grapple something, anything, but there was nothing around. it used its tendrils to propel its amorphic form forward in the water — no, not water. it was too thick. but, what was it if not water? — as he searched for a solid surface to grab onto. he couldn't see anything, but one tendril finally found something solid to cling to. venom propelled himself in the direction of the object, then attached the rest of his symbiotic tendrils to the surface. a light was dully emitted from the front of this object. what was this? a dwelling? no, this thing was slowly moving through the not-water... an enclosed ship, venom considered. the vibrations he felt from the object would align with his fleeting theory.
it hissed in pain (though, his hiss of pain could not be heard, as the sound was drowned and swallowed whole by the not-water) as a searing sensation washed over him as he clung to the front of this object, and he was quick to scale the rounded front of the unknown floating object. the discomfort started to settle as he reached the top of it. whatever not-water was in front of the large object, it stung. venom stretched itself thin as it spread out across the object as much as he could, feeling around for any loose seams or holes he could slip through. one of his long tendrils found a very small hole, but venom could fit inside. his amorphic form slowly began to seep into the maybe-ship like a black ooze, and it clung to the ceiling as more of it squeezed inside the enclosed space.
and inside, he found life.
no— not just life... he found a new host; a means for his survival. it was selfish, but symbiotes were selfish beings who took and siphoned from their hosts as a means for survival.
venom didn't act, not at first; he only studied the individual within from his spot on the ceiling. it could hear the quickened heartbeat and ragged breaths of its target; he sounded distressed, vulnerable... ripe for the taking. slowly, so slowly, venom lowered one dark tendril from the ceiling, the rest of him clinging flat to the surface. his tendril lowered to gingerly rest upon the man's forehead. he then delivered a gentle caress down the side of his face before the tendril decided to retract, leaving a slimy residue in its wake.
venom wanted him to know it was there before striking; it wanted to taunt its plaything first. if his sharp-toothed grin could've been visible in this form, venom would be grinning down at the man with a predatory expression.
the symbiote detached from the ceiling and landed on the other, maneuvering himself around until he was attached to his shirt. venom's liquidous mass seeped into him through the fabric of the shirt and into the pores of his chest, gradually becoming one with the person as it assimilated with him. venom's mass settled within his chest cavity, then spread itself out across the inside of his body. the symbiote found several parts of his body that would need fixing as it intertwined itself fully with the man's body and psyche.
then, low and rumbling like rolling thunder in the man's head, venom spoke to him for the first time.
"you... are broken."
