O Iqbal! From where did you learn to be such a dervish:

To God the angels did complain ʹGainst Iqbal and did say

gustakh hai karta hai fitrat ki hina-bandi

That rude and insolent is he, Nature he paints much brightly

khaki hai magar is ke andaz hain aflaki

Though born of mud and water, yet a god assumes to be:

rumi hai na shami hai kashi na samarqandi

Not bound to any home or land, of earthly ties is free

sikhlai farishton ko aadam ki tarap us ne

To throngs of Heaven he has taught, like man, to fret and pine

aadam ko sikhata hai aadab-e-khudawandi

To clay‐made man he fain would teach the wont and mode divine

tū merā shauq dekh mirā intizār dekh.

Be-Khatar Kood Para Aatish-e-Namrood Mein Ishq

Aqal Hai Mehv-e-Tamasha-e-Lab-e-Baam Abhi

Love fearlessly jumped into the fire of Namrud

yeh aik sajda jisay tu giraan samjhta hai
