Isle of Wight Festival – Must See With packing planned, ferries booked, troops gathered, and the countdown to Isle of Wight 2014 drawing ever closer it’s time to think about who to see. (Not that this ever goes to plan!) Below I have pieced together a mini-check list of who to see, and why... Thursday - Boy George: There are only so many drinking games you can go through before someone wants to get up, and go dance, to this one. Friday- The Polyphonic Spree: will be blessing IOW with their unique Choral Rock... Exactly, where else are you going to find that? Plus, their wardrobe is full of the most eccentric ensembles... Well worth checking these guys out. Rudimental: I have a feeling this could be the set that kicks ‘IOW 2014’ off... named the ‘Festival Band of the summer 2013’ by the BBC- a well worthy title, when we consider past performances. Biffy Clyro: I’ve seen Biffy countless times, and will undoubtedly see them countless times more; each live performance brings something new to the table – you’d be a fool to miss out. Saturday- Duke Dumont: So far as summer anthems go, you’ll be hard pushed to find something that beats the Caribbean steel drums of ‘I Got U’. I don’t doubt that festival and summer vibes will be surrounding this set throughout. The Specials: my message to you would be... make sure you don’t miss these guys (See what I did there?). Producing some legendary, 2-tone fun before this year’s headlining act. Gorgon City/Red Hot Chilli Peppers: Saturday always seems to be the night everyone relaxes into ‘festival mode’. If the sun is shining and the drinks have been flowing, then I can’t think of a better way to spend the evening. Sun, Cider & ‘Ready For Your Love’ or Sun, Cider & ‘Californication’... Whatever floats your boat! Sunday- Ella Eyre/July Talk: I stumbled across July Talk a few weeks ago and will definitely be checking them out. Sunday seems to be the ‘heavier’ day, from the IOW weekend, and they’ll certainly set the bar high for the following acts. If you’re looking for a more soulful start to your day, then Critics choice nominee, Ella Eyre, is your best bet – renowned for her performances with Rudimental, Naughty Boy & Wiz Khalifa; you’ll definitely need your dancing shoes, or wellies, for this one. The Horrors: The post-punk revivalists always deliver - I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed a bad performance from these guys! Kings of Leon: During this set, I can only assume the chants for ‘Sex on Fire’ will engulf the Isle of Wight, in its entirety. However, what’s my reason for KOL being a ‘Must See’? I’ll just leave this, here. There we have my take on ‘who to see’, at this year’s Isle of Wight Festival. Of course, there are countless great acts I haven’t mentioned that are well worth a watch. Remember to make the most of your festival experience – check out the Hardrock stage, watch the world cup in ‘field of dreams’, try shisha in ‘Hey Joe’, or check out the silent disco at ‘butlins ballroom’! All the headliners have now been announced for the Isle of Wight Festival 2014! Most of the other acts have also been announced and I am so excited!
