- Plourr Ilo/Koyi Komad: The few interactions they have in the X Wing: Rogue Squadron comics are pretty cute!! Plourr is SO PROTECTIVE of her x-wing, and just literally manhandles techs who do her starfighter wrong? She just? Picks them up and throws them around? And then Koyi is this brainy lady (she is so smart; I love her) who decides she’s tired of pursuing advanced degrees. Instead, she decides to become chief mechanic to the group of egos known as Rogue Squadron. So, their meet cute goes like this: Plourr is absolutely ready to rip apart this suspicious new starfighter technician who has dared to make adjustments to her x wing. But then? They are the best adjustments anyone has made ever!! She’s… in love? And then Plourr physically picks up Koyi, not to toss her across the room, but to give her a bonecrushing hug. Koyi is very “???” They had to have gotten caf together afterwards. Then, after talking about their mutual love of starfighters, they start planning their wedding, obviously. What do you mean this didn’t happen? Of course it did!

-Tyria Sarkin/Shalla Nelprin: These Wraiths have some things in common! Tyria comes from a long line of Antarian Rangers! She’s got militia training! She can sneak! She can track people! Good commando shit, all around. Shalla is the daughter of an Old Republic spy who noped the fuck on out of Palpatine’s Empire, and disappeared. He raised his daughters to be absolutely lethal in hand-to-hand combat! Shalla bluffs her way into convincing a baddie that she could kill a Wookiee in a one-on-one fight! I’m sure they would find each other’s conversation fascinating, and find themselves slowly spending more and more time together. They could hang out together to train, swap tips on fighting techniques, and discuss the latest advances in blaster technology together. They would both spend so much!! time pining for each other, like all “She’s so cool! She’d never be interested in me!” Until they both nervously confess their feelings one night and then live happily ever after you can’t convince me otherwise.

-Aril Nunb/Inyri Forge: There’s some throwaway line in The Bacta War that discusses how these two, “had discovered they shared a passion for obscure games of chance like contract sabacc and double-draw fendoc.” Aril and Inyri manage to fleece several high roller gamblers out of not just credits, but several ships!! These get added to the rogue Rogues’ little fleet and it is fantastic! They would have to get really familiar with each others’ tells and body language in order to consistently dupe so many people. I’m sure that, after spending day after day in this pursuit, coming down from a high after a big win, an impulsive kiss happens (I’m sure it’s Inyri’s fault; she seems like the type to do this). And then a romance for the ages was born, my friends. (Also: Aril is Sullustan and Inyri is human, so this has the added bonus of being an interspecies relationship. The Star War needs more of those tbh).

-Mirax Terrik/Iella Wessiri: If you have not yet read Isard’s Revenge, please do yourself a solid, friend, and get on that quick! Mirax and Iella’s interactions throughout really shine, and they are so! much! fun! They go off on lots of adventures to help out New Republic Intelligence. There is lots of sneaking, there is witty banter, and it’s fantastic! This makes my heart happy ahhhh!! :D Like, this is my favorite pairing out of this list, but I can’t write anything else because then I’d just never shut up? So. Take my word for it, this is a good ship!!

I drew a bundle of lady pilots!! It’s a real shame that it wasn’t until The Force Awakens that we got our first lady pilot named on screen - in Jessika Pava - but there’s a bunch of super cool X-Wing pilot ladies stuffed in about the general canon. This is just some of them! (Notable ommissions include Evaan Verlaine, Plourr Ilo & Asyr Seilar - I might have to do a follow up!)
