Long rant about family stuff. Proceed with caution.
TW: child abuse, psych hospitals, xtrianity, I know there's more but I can't process how to warn for parts of this without it being triggering
It's so strange to be starting therapy tomorrow having been in therapy for much of our life but not personally having any memory of past experiences with therapy.
I have small snippets, like random snapshots without connecting narrative and small tidbits of info akin to reading a list of facts. But I have no memories that can help me prepare.
And there are parts experiencing a lot of fear about starting therapy again. I keep trying to reassure them that it's not like when we were a teenager. It's much more difficult for them to involuntarily commit us as an adult. And even if it's just not a good fit, we can choose to find a different therapist. Seeking therapy is OUR choice this time.
I'm not sure if I'm getting through to them but I'll keep trying.
