Anon on the rex post. I got you, and trust me i also don't think rex got the premium powers or anything. Even if he's a version of gambit.
I think robot wasn't going for getting the best of the best when he recruited members. Cause the original members were the best but they still died.
Rex doesn't really show that he's creative with his powers like rae or even the same level of competency as kate. But! One can argue that he's resourceful and, more importantly, willing to fight until the end.
When monstergirl punched him, he used his own teeth to explode against her. And if mark wasn't there, rex was sure to fight monstergirl until one of them drops and he was going to give all that he's got. So i think his resourcefulness and perseverance is what sold robot to pick him.
That and if he can explode bigger objects which can produce bigger explosions, rex could be a walking bomb which is a good last minute resort.

Ah, alright. I had not thought of Robot taking in consideration aspects other than fighting prowess. And I suppose, Rex is also a known entity to him, and so Robot knows exactly how he might be of use. Thank you also for the explanation of how Rex's powers work, Anon. :3
I meant nightmare as in bad things happening, not the show being bad. The show is great. I loved it and especially the season finale to bits. But Mark might be just about the most traumatized superhero out there after that, poor kid T___T
