“Papa!” Matthew came running down the corridor to the lab and, after making sure Henry wasn’t dealing with anything dangerous, passed his arms around his neck and gave him a kiss on the cheek. “I saw this at the Market and I had to get it for you. Thank you for being the best Papa in the whole world!” Matthew smiled, presenting to Henry a package that contained inside a book full of inventions from different eras from all around the world. He was confident there would be things there hat would be new even to his father and would help give him many ideas.

Matthew looked down at his father on the chair, mouth hanging slightly open for a second before he swallowed. He knew what his father must have been thinking of: his mother on the floor, a baby that no longer was, the need to protect what was left. It made him almost sick knowing how unworthy he was of it, how he was the true and sole cause for his parents’ unhappiness. He would offer his life on a blade if it would unmake that day, but alas all he could do was smile brightly and reassuringly at his father, hiding it all. “You don’t need to worry, Papa, I was simply talking with some friends and didn’t notice how late it was. I am home now, safe and sound. My deepest apologies for worrying you.” He bent over and gave Henry a kiss on the cheek as an extra apology for lying about his true whereabouts.

Will was in the kitchen of the London Institute, crouched down so he was eye-level with the strange contraption that had appeared on the counter. He had a hand raised to fiddle with it when he heard someone clear his throat behind him. Will stood and turned to find Henry in the doorway.  “What, pray tell, is this?” Will asked, gesturing to the item in question, one eyebrow quirked. “And what is it doing on the counter?”

   “  i’m not leaving without you ! “ , mangus called out as he slipped down next to henry on the floor and wrapped an arm around his waist. “ we’ll leave. together or we’ll both go down.” , he huffed as he pulled the nephilim back on his feet and tried to help him walk..
