Hi y’all! I’m writing a story and one of my characters is a teenage Inuvialuit girl living in Inuvik. I’m not Native Canadian or Inuit, so I’m doing my own research, but if anyone has any information about this culture they’d like to give I would love to listen!
I wondering about:
1. Where is a good source for traditional Inuvialuit names? And any information on how naming traditions work.
2. What would it be like to live in Inuvik? I know that it would be very cold in the winter and isolated. What would life be like as a teen girl specifically? And what is the terrain like, specifically trees and bodies of water?
3. What are the differences between different subgroups of the Inuvialuit group? Ex: The Sallirmuit people
4. What is fishing and hunting like up there?
5. Are there any rituals or traditions that would be good to include?
6. How do cultural traditions blend with modern technology?
I don’t expect anyone to respond if they don’t want to, but if you’re interested in talking about this topic lmk!
