I travel solo ALOT. I’ve been asked a couple of times recently what I do when I travel alone, I didn’t know how to answer because I never really thought about it. At first I thought it was a new habit picked up in the last few years, but even on my very first overseas trip to the UK I traveled via New York and Kentucky solo. I met up with people in Kentucky (why else would I go there?), then carried on to England on my own. It was terrifying, but I did it 😂 I also traveled often to Japan for work in the past, and learnt how to make do on my own. So my love for solo travel seems to have been circumstantial, but I must have nurtured it because it works for me. It isn’t like I don’t spend time with people in my travels, often I take the opportunity of a catch up to road trip and retreat, like I did this weekend. The rest of the time I rest, I draw, I daydream and let thoughts just pass through me. Occasionally some of those thoughts will be a touch inspired, so I’ll grab on to them and look at them for a while. I walk slowly, I watch and look and see for moments at a time. I find nice food, I focus on eating it and enjoying it. I find that life is vivid when you are focused on it and not on conversations and people. I enjoy conversations and pay attention to them when they are happening, but time alone means I can focus on life. There are a million things I 'need' to get done today; but really if I don't do them an instead have snuggles with my girls, read and maybe have a nap the world won't end.
