✨Nevermind- A yoonmin roman empire🦋
Helllo everyone! I am introducing a new style of post on my blog where I talk about my Yoonmin Roman empires or things about Yoonmin that HAUNT ME and what I think about them.
Before we get started let's break down how this will go
A. I'll give a brief back story about what I'm talking about.
B. I'll talk about a practical explanation and then I'll give a theorist/delulu explanation. Don't take either too seriously ;) these posts are about having fun and gushing over those two. If you want to argue, do it elsewhere 🫶
C. These posts can be long so thanks for reading 💜
As always, Yoonmin before we start
Nevermind tattoo.
All the Yoonminer's make some mfing nosie, of COURSE, I have to talk about the Nevermind tattoo. Lets do a BRIEF timeline before I get into why this tattoo haunts me in the middle of the night
At some point Yoongi started working on his very personal,auto-biographical song that was going to be the intro to TMBIL PT 2.
At the 2014 mama awards Jimin had his legendary AB reveal where he had Nevermind in English and TMBIL in Chinese characters in a henna tattoo on his chest.
Fast forward to 2018, the gag of the century, Jimin's henna tattoo is now very much permanent.
We see flashes of it for years afterward. And Jimin points at it when Yoongi is talking about Nevermind for 2021 festa
In November of 2023 Jimin's tattoo artist posts a full photo of the nevermind tattoo.
SO, with that super condensed timeline lets talk about why I in particular think the Nevermind tattoo is special. I first think it's special, because the song is special. Not only to Yoongi but to Jimin as well. You can hear him talk about it here Jimin has always liked this song, Jimin in fact likes A LOT of Yoongi's song and verses but I digress.
The Nevermind tattoo rattles around in my brain for three reasons, one, placement, two style, and three timing. Yoongi's instructions in the song are clear "I know it's hard but engrave it on your chest" Where is Jimin's tattoo? Right on his ribcage, right next to his chest. Some could argue that he didn't place it exactly on his pecs, but considering he's still an Idol, and to the best of our knowledge this was his first tattoo, we're gonna let it slide.
Another thing that makes my head go brrrr when looking at Jimin's tattoo is the style. The style looks exactly like it is engraved on his skin. Jimin took Yoongi's words, his art. his truth, and not only loved it but had the utmost reverence for it when choosing to place it on his skin.
Finally timing, I want to remind you all that we saw this tattoo in late 2018. TMBIL albums had come out three years prior, they had released tons of other music during this time, including some of Jimin's own solo songs. So why Nevermind, and why 2018?
Let's get into the practical answer and then we'll talk about the delulu/theory answer.
The practical answer
The practical answer is that 2018 was a difficult year for the members, they have all spoken about the difficulties they faced during that time because they were working non-stop and their contract renewal was on the horizon. Jin spoke about the fears that they had of breaking up, and the fact that they would get a day and a half off per month. Taehyung spoke about feeling behind and not getting enough rest during the time and Yoongi spoke about feeling very out of it and not taking an active role in production due to how run-down he felt.
It's not a stretch to think Jimin felt some of the same feelings that the others members expressed. And Nevermind can be seen as a comforting song that not only expresses fear and frustration but encourages the listener to keep going despite the trials they're facing. It's an easy conclusion to think that Jimin simply found comfort in the song Nevermind. While there have been a lot of songs BTS has released, Nevermind speaks directly from the POV of someone who had been in a similar situation as Jimin albeit not an identical one. Maybe that's all there is to it. Nevermind is an encouraging song that touches a lot of people and Jimin just happens to be one of them.
The Delulu/theory answer:
I want to talk about 2018. There are rumblings and disagreements amongst some Yoonminers about what was happening between Yoonmin in 2018. Divorce allegations left and right, obvious closeness between Yoongi and Jimin with other members, and a reduction of on screen Yoonmin moments. Many a yoonminer debated about whether Yoongi and Jimin were going through a rough patch. For the sake of this post, I'll give my opinion.
I do not think Yoonmin were having a rough patch in 2018. I think Yoongi and Jimin were fine and even happy with each other in 2018. While Yoongi and Jimin were not as loud as the Run era or Debut era and certainly not as bold as they've been in chapter 2.,they still had moments. Small Touches that we saw, grand moments (lets not forget Yoongi telling Jimin he loved him happened at 2018 Festa), and cute moments between them in interviews and award shows. There may have been less Yoonmin on bangtan tv/ Run BTS but digging into yoonmin outside of them and they seem to be their same giggly, happy, intense selves.
The reason why I knowthat Yoonmin was ultimately fine during 2018 is because of the Nevermind Tattoo. One could even say they were more than fine. Let's rewind back to the practical explanation of this tattoo. We know that Jimin probably had a rough time during that time, just like the rest of BTS. We know that like the rest of the members he picked himself up with the help of Army and Bangtan and came out the other side. We know that ultimately what Jimin went through in 2018 is directly linked to what every member was going through.
That being said Jimin went through 2018, went through all the highs, and lows and in response to it all got his hyung's solo song tattooed on his ribcage.
Jimin didn't get "Serendipity" or "Lie" two of his own solo songs tattooed on himself. He didn't choose any of the other beautiful solo songs that the members have released up until that point songs that were even released in 2018 such as
Everythinggoes- RM
P.O.P- J-Hope
Euphoria- Jung Kook
Epiphany- Jin
Singularity- Taehyung
No,Jimin chose Yoongi's song and not only did he choose Yoongi's song, he chose a song that wasn't even recent. I think the significance of this is not only the lyrics and the timing but that it's Yoongi's song. I think Jimin saw all of 2018, saw the stress they had to endure, saw how it impacted his members, and himself, wrestled with the fear of losing BTS and thus losing Yoongi, and chose to tattoo his love for his hyung on his chest.
I think that no matter what solos may say about Jimini's never mind tattoo, that it's from the Nirvana album (lol), that it's the same one as 2014 (LMAO), it's pretty clear what Jimin's intention was. He wanted to carry a piece of Yoongi with him permanently. It's clear that no matter how you think their love manifests, that this was Jimin saying the obvious truth, that he loves Yoongi. Not only that he loves Yoongi but he understands Yoongi and furthermore feels understood by Yoongi. You can understand that regardless of what may or may not have been happening off-camera in 2018, Jimin knew what he wanted and he went for it. While people can reduce the tattoo to "he just really liked the song" or "what a cute bestie thing to do" I know that Jimin didn't decide to get a prominent tattoo of his Hyung's solo lyrics tattooed on an extremely painful area as a whim. And I doubt Yoongi, upon hearing from Jimin what he planned to do, and seeing it for the first time, fully etched into his dongsaeng's chest took it lightly either. All of this to say, I think any questions about what happened with Yoonmin in 2018 can be answered with Jimin's inked skin. In fact, I think any questions about the love that yoonmin has for each other in any era post-2018 can be answered with a plethora of moments but the Nevermind Tattoo is a good starting point
In the end
So! I've talked about the practical explanation, and I've talked about the delulu/theory explanation. Now the question is which is true? The answer is, how would I know, lmao! Perhaps one day Jimin will do a full rundown of all his beautiful tattoos and give an in-depth explanation of the placement, the timing, and the purpose of each. Or perhaps he never will. Either way, I think it's easy to see his heart, and his love for Bangtan and Army in all of his tattoos and for that I am grateful.
