Welcome to Transformers More than Meets the Eye (text is comicâs logo).
More than Meets the Eye is a fun/tragic comic about a bunch of losers heading into space
Because they donât want to deal with the war that just ended on their planet
All/most of these robots are very very gay.
Why read it? Because this comic has everything you could want in a comic:
We have action! (panel of First Aid and Ratchet holding pistols and bantering)
Humor! (Ratchet peers at a teeny tiny shot glass and says: âEither itâs very far away or youâve invented the worldâs smallest drink.â from off panel: âShut up, itâs free.)
Freaky body horror! (Chromedome and Drift standing together. Drift looks visibly sickened. Â Chromedome: âRatchet, could you put his brain back in his head? With corpses, I prefer to go through the eye sockets.â Drift: âI cannot begin to tell you whatâs wrong with that sentence.â)
People reflecting on the cause and consequence of war! (Two panels. In one, Fulcrum says: âBut thereâs always been a war. THatâs like saying thereâs no blue, or the weatherâs stopped.â In the other Megatron and Whirl are fighting and Megatron says âYou taught me that words without force were weightless and for a long time I was grateful. Even when others tried to save me I always returned to what you did to me in that cell.â)
More humor! (Whirl and Skids joking around together) And lots and lots of gay robots having feelings (Whirl looking melancholy saying âWell, it makes me feel, full stop.â)
Alien religion and philosophy! (Pantheon of candy-colored Transformers gods standing shoulder to shoulder)
Mysteries! (A figure stands on a plain with a mysterious spiky city before them as in the background multiple spiky shadowy planets circle)
Like Seriously. So many feelings. (A collage of panels. Rewind stands side by side with Chromedome and says âI love you.â Chromedome reaches his hand through a narrow space and begs someone âPlease, donât do this.â Cyclonus puts his hands on Tailgateâs shoulders and tells him not to hope, because hope is a lie. Ratchet puts his hands on Driftâs shoulders and tells him that he has a future, that he can tell heâs something special. Drift hugs Rodimus from behind while âteaching him the art of the bladeâ and says âthose two have an odd relationship.â)
But luckily thereâs a (tiny, brave, very breakable) therapist on board to help them work through those feelings. (Two panels with Rung. One of him saying âAnd when did you first decide the universe needed conquering?â and one of his tiny hands resting on someoneâs enormous hands as he says â...Iâve learned to forgive anything.)
In summary: yes. Theyâre dumb car robots. (Panel of a car sitting at a table with a glass of alcohol saying â...good point.â)
But if you let them into your heart you will care about them more than you could ever imagine. (Rodimus hides his face in his hands and says âYouâre gonna show some of the speech? Itâs not embarrassing, itâs just - I really gave it my all.)
(Panel of Chromedome and Rewind walking away. Rewind: âCome on. Youâve said what you wanted to say.â
Bonus! A picture of two bots sitting on a hill covered in flowers, hugging each other. If you read all 57 issues of More than Meets the Eye and then read the sequel series Lost Light you get a BONUS loving lesbian relationship between two beautiful and loving trans lesbians who happen to be robots and theyâre in love and itâs fucking lovely.
