In the Wild Light Zentner has wowed me again with his new book, In the Wild Light. “In the small town of Sawyer, Tennessee , super-smart high school student, Delaney, with help from her best friend, Cash, discovers a mold with some amazing medicinal properties. She and Cash get scholarships to an elite boarding school in Connecticut. Cash does not feel worthy. But he finds out some things about himself and finds love in an unexpected place.” Zentner’s writing is wonderful here. It reminds me a bit of Pat Conroy, especially when he’s talking about the river. He lays bare the opioid crisis and the terrible effects on users and their families. Delaney and Cash are both hurt by parents’ choices. Reading Zentner’s books is always an emotional experience for me. Everyone who grew up in a dysfunctional/alcoholic household can probably relate. But JZ doesn’t just rip your heart out - He includes hope. It’s great to see references to previous books here. Nice to see that kids in Connecticut are watching Rayne & Delilah. If you haven’t read Zentner’s books, you should start. He strums that emotional chord and plucks those heartstrings. An amazing, emotional story from Jeff Zentner. #inthewildlight #jeffzentner #ya #yalit #opioidcrisis #easttennessee #theserpentking #goodbyedays #rayneanddelilahsmidnitematinee #bookstagram #bookshelves #booknerd #bookhoarder #bookworm #sodacityreads #bookish #bookreview #hardcover #bookcover #bookhaul #goodreads #homelibrary #fiction #boardingschoolfiction (at Irmo, South Carolina) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTo-4j8rYOu/?utm_medium=tumblr
