5. And your own personal mantra?

I’m trying hard to maintain focus on the present day, to be satisfied and be aware of what I presently have. At this enlightened moment, I am genuinely grateful for all the blessings given to me and I do not dare to wish for more. I just want to go on doing my very best to deserve them and keep them.

Hmmm… and then a moment later visions, wishes and plans lift me from the ground, from today to the all-powerful tomorrow and it’s all very well as long as I manage to balance on the verge of reality and imagination.

Generally speaking, my long-term mantra would be to slightly slow down this headlong rush of daily life and to love myself and those around me just as we are…without the need to change.

7. How has being a woman affected your career?

I never gave much thought to gender differences when I was younger. However, now when I’m trying to combine motherhood and my artistic work I am more aware of it especially when I think about all those opportunities and missed opportunities in my life. That is when I see the image of divided Lena in the mirror. Here comes the distinction and the frustration as well.

Artistic profession is, unlike some other professions, more of a vocation and it involves a lot of sacrifice, commitment and dedication of body and soul and most of all it requires to be our top priority. Just like our children. True, maybe not all the time and maybe it doesn’t apply to everybody. I can truly say that I am doing my very best to comply with both requests with equal amount of love.

12. What makes something art?

I cannot give a general response to this question; I can only say what I currently consider art.

I have never personally asked that question to myself, I even ran away from that label, title or name, as well as any others...

I start with a natural urge, which feels like an urge to eat, sleep or any other primary need. That initial feeling that pushes you to create, for me that is the A in Art.

I sometimes try, but am not able to, get away from the need that something needs to be pretty to me!, to fulfil aesthetic standards important to me!. I noticed that it is not important to me in theory, whereas I cannot fight that urge when working. The selection and relationships of colours, as well as the composition, are something I don’t think about or plan, and the satisfaction comes when I see how I intuitively achieve harmony, and how I sometimes find harmony in disharmony. I enjoy balancing those two poles and it feels like I dance through the entire creative process. The emotions and conditions arising from that process are important to me, as well as my desire to transmit them to the observer, so that they could feel the sensation on their skin. That would be my R in aRt.

The third (T in arT) is an intelligent idea, transmitted through an appropriate medium, which makes available for the final “product” to deeply affect the observer, make a participant out of him.
