My contribution to @trans-lykanthropie 's #interstellar werewolf story
(Based on this and this)

"Joe!" a voice snapped.
Joe raised his head and his cameras whirred slightly.
The figure at the door came into focus and he immediately straightened as much as his stooped frame would allow.
"Ma'am," he said, voice clipped and precise. "How can this one-"
"You're off shift," the captain interrupted. "You are relieved."
He checked his internal chronomoter. He didn't need to. He already knew he was two hundred and fifty two minutes into an unauthorized third consecutive shift.
Despite himself, he glanced at the array of displays he had open. Water budgets and algae and yeast optimizations.
"Relieved," the captain repeated.
She herself looked tired. His sensors registered a 12% increase in signs of fatigue. He logged that with the ship's medical database.
The captain's tablet pinged. She looked down with a sigh followed by a piched expression as she likely read the medical report he had just filled. When she looked up, he registered annoyance in her expression.
"Apologies ma'am," he said rising to his feet. "This one will retire."
She sighed and shook her head and left without a backward glance, leaving him to close down the display and begin his shuffle out the room and down the hall.
She was a good captain. Better than most he had served under. Very efficient. Lenient when needed. Strict when required. But the current crew had brougt a rather... unique set of complications on board.
Jumping in on @trans-lykanthropie's #interstellar werewolf!
Today's the day. My first day aboard The Spirit of Orion. I arrived at the station a couple of days ago and spent most of the last couple of days fretting over my uniform and going through my things to make sure there's nothing I forgot. I gathered my things and headed for the docking ring. I had my head down. Following my datapad so I didn't get lost. But I looked up and gasped. There she was! My first ship! Ok, not mine, exactly, I'm just a communications technician. But still! I'll be on a real ship! Going into the deep!
The Spirit of Orion really shouldn't work. At least, according to one of its janitors. I mean sure, she can mop the floors fine, anyone who's even a little water soluble has an environment suit on. And she doesn't have *so* much to do, considering the average spill on the floor is resolved by cleaning bots before she can even take the lift. All the same, whoever renovated this ship had a very specific and very conditional sadist tendency, because some of it is just out to get you.
She did it to herself really. Years of gene therapy to get just the right shape, and now she is flexible enough to be volun-told to climb into this blocked vent to fish out the- is that fur? The filters are fine mesh and hypoallergenic foam, and the lock of fur so much like hers and yet slightly different is easily stuck against the airflow. it still has a scent to it if she can just get a handful...
The surprise is enough to make her tail flick, drawing a muffled laugh from behind her that makes her almost, *almost* regret getting it coded that fluffy and obvious. Still, back to the smell. It's unmistakable from home, but she can count the number of highly modified individuals on this ship off the cuff, and it doesn't smell like any of them. So, what is a dog doing on the spirit? She checks the lock again before calling down for a hand cleaner. Her supervisor tries to cover the awkward silence.
"So... you heard about the werewolf on board?"
what? @trans-lykanthropie :3

I read the spec again. Third time lucky.
I'm lying on my bunch in my cluttered berth, trying unsuccessfully to brush up on the specifications for the freight cranes down in the hold. We're approaching our next port of call and the brass wants to make sure all the gear is up to snuff so we don't have trouble loading and unloading when we're station-side
But not a word of it is staying in my head. I growl and chuck the folder onto my desk without sitting up, resigning myself instead to staring at the ceiling whilst 'Contemplation Vol. 3' drifts dreamily out of the speaker grill. One of precious few music collections provided by Starfarer Frieght that doesn't drive me up the wall.
I wince and stretch my neck, eliciting a series of grim cracks. My current appearance can only be described as 'monstrous'. Mostly wolfed out, but still uncannily human, grimy and haggard from another day of fixes and repairs to drag the Spirit of Orion into port. Maybe with a bit of luck she'll be overhauled and the next shore leave will be longer than expected.
As if on cue, there's a loud sharp CRACK and all the light snap off, making me jump and sit bolt upright. After a second of darkness, with a buzz and flicker, the emergency lights illuminate, casting the whole room in dingy red glow. I grab my squawker to check to see if an emergency has been declared, but messages are already flicking from engineering to power to communications to the bridge and back again. The conclusion is a power failure in the lighting systems only, and all others are nominal.
I sigh as the adrenaline fades. A few minutes more and I decide I'd better go see if I'm needed on the repair crew, or just in case anyone's out on deck without their squawker. I swing out of my bunk, stuff a few essentials in the pockets of my gym shorts (I can come back for my toolbelt if I need to), and head out into the corridor.
With the emergency lighting, I can't deny the ship looks very eerie, almost creepy. Long dark shadows, slowly blinking red lights above and a second row at foot level, and the occasional flicker and buzz gives the place a distinct 'haunted house' feeling. I stoop a little as I pad heavily along the corridors, looking around. After turning a corner I catch sight of a silhouette, looking away from me as far as I can tell. I close the gap quickly, tap them on the shoulder, and try to talk. With my recent transformations, and having not spoken for an hour or two, the words instead come out as a gutteral snarl.
The sum total of these actions have an entirely different effect from what I intended, as shown by the figure jumping a mile and screaming. I step back in surprise, trying to explain, but only succeeding in growling more, fangs bared in what I hope is a reassuring smile but probably looks the opposite.
interstellar werewolf? explain pretty please. <bit of a rocketry nerd so you Have Alerted the Slugcat lol
So interstellar werewolf emerged from a fun off the cuff post I made about not declaring my lycanthropy whilst joining a spaceship crew on the assumption that as we were leaving the solar system anyway it wouldn't be a problem, only to find the exact opposite is true and in fact my lycanthropy goes haywire and I start being unpredictably wolfing out aboard ship
It evolved into an interconnected series of drabbles about working with the maintenance crew of an interstellar freighter ship owned by the company Starfarer Freight and just kinda getting into more sci-fi situations whilst being a werewolf. A few wonderful mutuals also contributed to the work so far too, there's a couple of aliens and a cat girl and transgender robot, it's great fun. If you've got more questions or ideas I'd love to hear them c:
I should probably a master post like I did with Deathclaw Ada....
I sit up in my bunk with a jolt, narrowly avoiding cracking my head against the ceiling of my cabin. It takes me a while to get my bearings, frowning and stretching, my alarm clock beeping at me relentlessly until I eventually growl and turn it off. Through the tiny circle of thick reinforced glass set in the hull I catch a distorted glimpse of the inky blackness of space flecked with stars.
Another day on duty.
