I apologize for being so personal, but I need some help. The state of Alabama's department of transportation (ALDOT) wants to replace an elevated viaduct through downtown Birmingham (the largest city in Alabama, as well as a city which has been experiencing a cultural and economic resurgence). Not only did the city serve as a nexus of the Civil Rights Movement but it also serves as the center of Central Alabama's transformation from a pollution-rich steel mega-hub to a banking and medical/research hub.Â
Please help the state realize that the Birmingham area deserves better than the status-quo. It deserves to be home to a downtown area that joins the central business district harmoniously with its primary convention complex.Â
Let ALDOT know that they need to re-think their current plan.... sign the PETITIONÂ .
SINK 20/59! (literally, it needs to be below-grade)
