I am not saying you personally need to welcome them back with open arms or forgive and forget. But there needs to be a path back from that ledge. If an anti-Zionist Jew takes a step back, reflects, and realizes, “oh shit, I’m in a room full of antisemites,” there needs to be a way for them to return.

They’re not going to just disappear & cease to exist because they’re dead to you. They’re going to go somewhere. And we cannot afford to make it harder for them to come back to us than to return to anti-Zionists who hate them and will use them to harm us.

I feel like I am too young for Judaism.

I grew up reform Jewish and I’ve always wanted to become conservative so I’ve been basically going through the conversion process. I’ve been on this track since 2018 but more intensely since 2022 when I joined my current synagogue. I’m 21 years old. Every convert I know is at least twice my age and asks if I’ve thought this through enough. When I go to Saturday morning services everyone is old enough to be my grandparents and they ask if someone is making me do this like my parents or something. I even had a rabbi who said maybe this is just a phase and I’ll grow out of it (not in a rude way, in a “don’t form your entire life around a phase” way).

None of these people are trying to be cruel to me. They’re not trying to be rude, they’re just genuinely confused because it’s rare in my area for someone my age to be so interested in Judaism as a religion. Honestly it’s probably rare for many areas. But it cuts deep because it reminds me of my childhood, raised Jewish but with a grandfather who had a lot of internalized antisemitism. He doesn’t believe I’m Jewish because my father isn’t. He says my generation has “outgrown” Judaism, he calls it archaic. He says he “suffered being a Jew” so I don’t have to. But I love Judaism and I always have. My mom says I should ignore him but it’s hard because I love my grandfather and because he’s the last survivor of my family who really knew about the pogroms. I understand his sentiment of “if you just hide it you can be normal” but I don’t feel that way. I like being Jewish and I like Judaism. It almost feels like I’m appropriating his culture because I can’t understand what it’s like to be a 90 year old Jew, not until I’m 90.

It feels like my generation has “outgrown” Judaism and left me behind. Like the expectation is that no one in my generation could truly have interest in Judaism outside of a trend, even though I’ve been in the process of reconnecting for years and years and I’m certain this is what I want.

Now many many people are stereotyping everyday Jews as super rich while other minorities suffers, calling us arrogant, out of touch, etc. Also just a personal opinion but I think this is very hypocritical to call yourself Orthodox Jew and live in opulence while preaching modesty through tsniout and a +20 000$ wig.
