#internal update

So long story short, I moved house.

I’m finally on site today, after a lot of time spent coordinating and locating and buying and driving and refunding and rebuying.  The new place is nice, work starts Monday, and today I burnt dinner (only a little bit, but still).  I just met my neighbors a few hours ago and there’s a whole lot of additional things that still need to be taken care of because moving between states introduces all kinds of legal stuff I didn’t know of (like driver’s licenses and car tags and ugh).

I’ve honestly been really grateful that things around here have been slow because it allowed me to focus on the move, playing other games on my own time (I just finished and loved Trails of Cold Steel) and reconnecting with my family and friends.  I still think Echoes is great, but it didn’t really generate a lot of discussion around planning / maps / builds like Awakening and Fates did, so once that died we just kinda...went to sleep, lol.  Btw for those people who asked way back when “how do I deal with Ch 4 Jedah?” or something similar, the recommended method (from my second run) is throw three phantoms at him and then Tigerstance his face.  Tigerstance is broken and should be abused (along with Dragonhaze and other “convert stats to raw damage” skills).

I also....want to take some time to revive an old project that started around the same time as this one originally, but fell off a few years ago.  This is going to take the form of a podcast (for sure) and will be on YouTube (maybe).  It’s not anything FE-related at all, although Brady and I have tossed the idea of doing something like that here on an irregular schedule.

Anyway, I’m throwing the bulk of my not-getting-my-new-life-situated time in the next few weeks into that, so that it can be done right and be successful and all that jazz.  If you’re interested in poetry (of any kind), let me know and I’ll be sure to inform you when that project goes live (assuming we get that far).  If you want to hear from me a bit more often all throughout all time I’m doing whatever it is that doesn’t get posted here, you should probably check out the Discord server.

Hey guys, it’s Silas.  I’ve got an announcement of sorts.

I’m stepping down, or away if you’d prefer.  Basically I’m formalizing what I’ve already been doing for months.

This isn’t a sudden thing, at least not for me.  A few months ago I was re-running Echoes and I just felt burnt out.  I wasn’t enjoying it anymore.  So I flipped to Fates, but didn’t stick with that very long either.  I sincerely love both games, so it shocked me that I was struggling to appreciate them.  I took some time away, and it’s been very refreshing.

Not just to play other games, but to do other things entirely.  I’ve been working out more.  I’ve been cooking more.  And I have ideas for projects that I haven’t been able to act on yet, but hope to soon.  I think in order to keep everything in balance, something has to give, and I’m choosing this, at least for now.  You can treat this as an indefinite hiatus, if you’d like.

I feel emboldened to do this in the wake of various content creators on tumblr, YouTube, and other platforms making similar announcements.  There’s something about FE and the way that I interact with it nowadays that just isn’t cutting it the way it used to.  I think, at the very least, I need the time away so that I don’t carry this fatigue into the next series entry.

In truth, my favorite parts of doing this whole blog have been outside of “strategy”, which kind of hints that maybe we should have rebranded some time ago.  I enjoyed making the Fates class table, and the Gaiden primer, much more than anything else I’d done around the same time (including and especially answering character build questions).  I think if I’m going to continue to make content, I want to do something along those lines, and sometime off in the future when I have a clearer head about it.

I got involved because I loved the games and wanted to fill a niche in the community.  I learned a lot about the series and gained a greater appreciation in the process.  This blog is now four years old -- four years of growing and developing together.  I value that.  I just think I need to do something else right now.

Brady and I are just now getting into talking about what the future might look like, and when we get a better idea of what that is, we’ll let you know.  If you’re looking for me in the near future, you'll still be able to find me on the Discord server.

I lost my 3DS, with Fates in it.  I’m using every method I can think of to locate it, from retracing my steps to offering rewards on Facebook, but I have no idea if or when I’ll find it.  So, my Halloween castle (slated to release on Halloween Eve) is indefinitely postponed.

BUT, upon recovery I will continue to work diligently to set it up for you guys and will simply have to push it out at a later date.

I’m working hard.  I’m just now really getting settled into a new job and environment, staying somewhere in the interim before I get to move in to my actual apartment, and a couple of other things going on.  I tried to answer a few questions tonight / start a few articles, but I’m just wiped.  I’ll do my best to be around more over the next few weeks.

We have an about us page now!  You know, if you’re into that kind of thing.  Just a little snippet about each of us, a nice clerical thing.

Silas is getting a new laptop soon!  Lenovo decided it wasn’t going to be able to deal with the repairs on his old one in a timely manner, so they said hey, we’ll offer you a better one.  That bodes well for both goings-on around here and streaming / recording more games.

The inbox is still full of stuff!  We’re still reading said stuff!  We’re sorry for the wait on some of these questions, and we can’t guarantee that everyone’s will be answered, but we’ll continue to do our best.
