Hey! Read your answer about the focus of HSPS interviews - would the situation be different if I'm being interviewed internationally? Since if I recall correctly it won't be the college DoS interviewing us but a member of the academic team they're sending down?
Ooh, it probably would be different if you’re being interviewed internationally! I don’t actually know anyone who was, so can any helpful experts add any insight?
I’ve started graduate school recently (going for my M.S. in Forensic Technology) and I happen to be staying at the same school I did my undergrad degree. There are a small handful of us (abou…
(Resend) hi Sarah, so you've mentioned a few times that people who fly through A levels tend to have a hard time at cam. This worries me, since although I'm working hard, I'm not finding course material challenging (AS equivalent) - so with subject choices next year I've tried to push myself so that if I miraculously get an offer, I won't be completely shell shocked. Does this seem sensible to you? I'm taking a subject more than needed so I'm worried any offers I get might be harder to achieve:/
Honestly, it was mostly the other AACS who said people that fly through A levels tend to have a hard time. I found high school very easy, the only hard part was the quantity. I think what 2nd AACS meant was that people who never really have to work find Cam hard because Cam is hard for everyone so if you don’t have those study skills built up from earlier, it can be a bit of a steep learning curve when you get to Cam.
I don’t really recommend taking more than the normal amount of A levels (or equivalents) without a good reason. Like, if you’re still stuck between two subjects and have to make you A level choices now and you need all 4 to keep your options open, then go for it. But if you know what you want, and you’re taking 3 hard A levels that’ll get you there, why would you make extra work for yourself and risk (a) getting a harder offer and (b) missing Cam entirely because you're overworked. If your GCSEs and AS’s are where they should be, and there’s no special circumstances going on, I do not really recommend taking more than Cam asks for.
For internationals, that means you should be on track for what Cam lists here and you should be challenging yourself within your system. What do the top top students in your country do? Do that, there’s not really any reason to do more and risk everything by being overworked. If you want to take more for some reason, fine, but it’s not necessary unless you need to prove something to Cam.
what did you do for your phone plan when you moved to the UK? and if you switched service, did that mean you couldn't use your phone when you went back home?
I’m on Vodafone Pay As You Go. Pay As You Go is probably the best call for internationals, especially if you’re going to be going home over breaks. As for what I do when I get back, I do At&T Pay As You Go. So I just pay as I go all over the place.

do you know anyone studying at Cambridge who is from Malta?
Oh yeah, my bf’s college mom is from Malta! She was an MML studying Arabic and...I can’t remember her other language. Love her. But yeah, according to HERE there’s not that many :(
Hi! For my IB subjects, my school let me take 4 HL subjects instead of just 3 and 2 SL subjects instead the usual 3...would that be okay if I want to apply for Medicine?
Yup, that sounds like it’ll help your application. Just make sure you’re achieving tip top marks in all of them.
Hi! I'm doing my first year of IB and am thinking of doing HSPS in the future. My higher levels are English Lit, Theatre Arts and Psychology. My standard levels are Chemistry, Maths and Spanish Ab initio. Is my subject combinations ok or should I consider switching some of my SLs and HLs?
I would definitely swap Theater for something more...academic. You’ve got English Lit, which is good, but then theater is abysmal and psychology is considered a big weak. Any of your SL’s would be fine to drop theater (which must go--unless you drop Psych for a more well respected one) although I think Chem or Maths would help you get to the difficulty level Cambridge are looking for. Ideally though, you’d be doing something like History or Philosophy, another difficult, essay based arts subject, as your 3rd HL. But as long as you drop Theater and get a properly academic 3rd HL in there, you should be fine.
