summary: Sage Danvers is scouted out by Reed Richards himself to go on a mission with the rest of the Fantastic Four to figure out who and what will destroy Earth 828, the Fantastic Four’s home, but someone important decided to show up early as they attempt to escape the silver surfer lady.

Sage Danvers rarely gets scared, nonetheless when reaching certain high levels of anxiety, but in this moment, she felt an uneven pressure settling into her chest, a pressure that sat right on top of her lungs mimicking an elephant’s weight. She ran the plan through her head one last time before telling Reed.

  The urgent tone in Sage’s voice made Reed whip his head at the girl, waiting for her response. “What do you suggest?” Reed replies in a calm manner, eager to hear what she has in mind.

The whirring of the ship’s gears and Sue’s cries was all her ears could pick up as she went over the plan in her head what seemed like the billionth time.

Sage presses a few buttons and pulls up the star’s interface on the screen for Reed, Johnny and Ben to see, her focus sharp as a whistle, “As Ben is about to slingshot us around the neutron star, we must unlock the FTL engine right as we put in the coordinates for home, but there’s a dilation, and we have to merge with it the minute the engine is released.” Sage explains as she floats where the two men are sat, pointing her finger at the monitor as she spoke clearly, her voice sounded confident and strong, but in reality, she’s terrified. She’s about to do something that will ultimately challenge her.

“How much of a dilation?!” Johnny questions, unsurprisingly speaking about the lack of information about this plan.

Sue growls, “IS IT MORE THAN MINE RIGHT NOW?” Sage winces as she hears the pain in the woman’s voice, Johnny shrugs at her reply, Sage notices and throws a blast of energy at the side of his body, “Hey quit it,” signaling him to be mindful, he shoots her a shocked expression.

The girl continues her explanation.

“It’ll give you all a fraction of time to arrive at the entry of the jump point while the engine displays as a decoy. You guys fly around the star, and I will…direct silver into said star.” She pauses in between her sentences as a reminder that Sage won’t necessarily hurt her, but it must be done.

Reed and Ben understood the plan, a well-put thought and the smartest way to go about this, especially with Sue in labor and all of them in danger. Johnny, on the other hand, started to think about another way around this because there’s no chance in hell he was going to lose her.

But in Sage’s mind, she convinced herself that this comes with a price that she must pay, and that means flying outside the ship where the climate is deemed unsafe and only someone who’s able to withstand the impenetrable force of space is to do this. It’s already confirmed…Sage is the one to do the task.

“The second we get close to the star….” Sage swallows hard as she’s about to explain the rest of plan, her palms becoming clammy and she felt a headache forming behind her eyes, “Sue uses her invisibility to disguise the ship, her contractions are roughly thirty seconds apart, in that thirty second window, she hides us, and I’ll guide us through the atmosphere….once we steer into the dilation and the ship is clear for the course, I’ll fly us into the jump point.”

The silence in the ship suddenly turned heavy, Ben, Reed and Johnny listened to her instructions, Ben was the first to speak, “Kid, are you sure about this?” “Sage that’s too dangerous,” “There must be another way,” Reed and Johnny added. “I’m not letting you risk your life for ours. I won’t allow it.” Reed demanded in a soft but serious manner, the fact that she’s willing to get them to safety by doing this, but Sage is powered in the way of Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel, she can handle this.

The girl shakes her head, “Reed…. I got this. Please trust me. Sue needs you; your child needs you; your family needs you. Let me take care of this.” She’s positive about what’s about to go down. She may or may not make it out alive, despite her health conditions and how her body tends to give up on her during these types of situations.

However, there’s an unwavering sensation that of Sage, burrowing its way into her stomach, sending shivers down the spine and the Kree blood inside of the girl, sizzles in her veins as she activates her powers, a golden yellow aura surrounds Sage.

 Johnny gazes at Sage as he sees her take a few deep breaths as she readies herself to do her part, his heart started to beat profusely as his mind showed him the worst outcome; Sage doesn’t come back. How would they break the news to Carol? How would they return home without her knowing she risked her life for their universe? Johnny shakes his brain from the horrific thoughts, Sage can handle this, he knows it.

  Reed springs into action, “Ben, prepare the FTL engine,” he directs at his friend as he makes his way over to Sue, who is experiencing crucial pain as her body prepares her for labor.

Reed pushes her gently by the shoulders onto the panel, “Sue, honey, Sage will be right back, she’s going to get all of us home, but as she does her part, we need you to do yours, okay?” Reed explains to his wife in a mellow and understanding voice, Sue’s blue eyes glossed over as she’s sweating profusely from the pain and shock she’s experiencing.

 As she registers what Reed said about Sage, she looks at the girl whose beside the woman now, Sue starts to panic, “No Sage, please no,” Sue pleads, her head shaking vigorously, her hand reaching towards Sage, gripping into a hold for a second, “Sue, don’t stress anymore that you have to, I got this. I’ll be back as soon as I can, but listen,” Sage tightens her grasp around Sue’s shaking hand, “We need at least thirty seconds of invisibility after your next contraction, then we can get out of here,” Sage convinces Sue, her forehead connecting with the woman’s, Sue nods against her skin. The two disconnects, Sage flashes one final smile and a curt nod at Reed.

  “Sage, coming up on the dilation!” Johnny informs Sage, taking that as her cue to prepare for takeoff. She makes her way to the hatch at the back of the ship once again, gazing out the wide window as the ship soars across the windy and dusty climate, towards the star.

She hears Reed soothingly direct Sue through another contraction; she lets out of breathy groan followed by a long shriek as her hands wavering out to her sides, the rainbow glow flickers and surrounds the ship, “Unlocking the FTL engine!” Ben alerts Sage. That’s her call.

Sage lifts out of the hatch, mask retracting over her face, photon blasts ignited, and she’s off.

 She heads to the FTL engine as it’s now floating in midair, Sage spots a flash of silver in her peripheral, and immediately knows it’s the silver lady. She’s been on their tail the whole journey, but it’s time for her reign to end.

The ship, still surrounded by Sue’s invisibility shield, is approaching the star and at a rapid speed, Sage positions herself on the side of the ship where Johnny is sitting, her glow illuminating through the glass as Ben piloted.

Johnny glanced to the left, Sage at his side, and their eyes locked. Sage salutes him playfully and he copies her, they tend to take the mick out of each other during serious times, but they were both obligated to do it one last time.

 The nose of the ship darts towards the star and Sage takes that as her lead. Sage dives off to the side towards the now invisible FTL engine, and she spots the silver lady surfing the orange dusty waves, so far, the plan is working. “Ben, Johnny, 10 seconds to get into the dilation!” Sage informs the men, pressing on the comms, the Excelsior moves to the left, heading in the other direction, near the side of the star and to the entry of the jump point.

Turning her attention to the engine, Sage follows the silver lady as she’s tailing the “ship,” soaring up behind the lady once she realizes it’s a trap as the engine disintegrates into pieces, Sage locks on the target, thrusting her feet onto silver’s back and she’s shoved into the star. Sage immediately flies backwards to avoid being sucked in, her powers flicker as she maneuvers out of the way.

“Sage, say something, anything!” Johnny’s yelling was broken up in her ear and she lets out a steady breath, “I’m on my way.”

 Sage wastes no time, gliding as quickly as she could back to the group, following the same path as the Excelsior, the fiery red burns of the star’s energy and uneven altitude levels pick away at the ship’s pieces one by one, Sue’s invisibility wore off and now it’s Sage’s turn.

The girl darts underneath the Excelsior as the bright yellow and shining blue energy cascaded along the ship, her hands latching on as she uses every fiber in her body, collecting herself as her powers enhanced all awhile steadying her heartrate and keeping her pulse at a normal rate.

With Sage’s strength applied, she carried the ship into the jump point, the atmosphere turning into a void and WHOOSH! They’re transferred back to space, it seemed like they were in the clear. She did it.

  Sage unlatches herself and breezes up to the hatch, but suddenly, she felt her heart pump weakly, her brain sending a warning that means it might stop completely. She notices the door is slightly ajar, a blue and white clothed arm reaches out to her, grabbing Sage by the hand, and pulls the two in, the hatch locking behind them.

Sage lands on a firm but warm chest, her hands steadying on the “J.Storm,” velcro tag, heaving a few dry coughs, attempting to catch her breath and she knows exactly who it is.

It's Johnny. The two fell backwards from the impact as his strong hand gripped her waist while the other is cradling her head, clutching the girl into his body as if he’s shielding her.

Johnny looks at her with worry in his bright blues, his nerves were all over the place as he aided Ben while worried sick about his sister and nervous for Sage, “You okay?” she ponders for a second before replying, “Never better,” she thumbs up, a shaky breath released from her lips.

Johnny lets out a sigh of relief that he was holding in, his arms tighten around Sage to bring her closer for a minute, her head resting in the nook of his shoulder.

A small yelp sounded from the middle of the room, causing Sage and Johnny’s heads to look up at the noise. It’s Sue. The two untangled from their embrace and float to where Reed is what looks like to be cradling a body while Ben hovers at the foot near the man, but Sage doesn’t see Sue.

“Sue?” the girl calls out in a subtle voice, Reed holds out his free hand towards Sage, bringing her around to the side where he’s positioned, Johnny follows up behind. “I’m here,” she faintly hears Sue say but with a hint of exhaustion. Sue appears, Reed cradling her cheek, and then suddenly, a tiny cry unleashes and Sage gasps. The baby is here.

 Ben clipped the umbilical cord and held the baby in his giant yet gentle hands, handing him off to his parents. “I gotcha, little guy,” The gleaming yellow sun illuminated the ship, shining through the circular window as the baby is placed into Sue’s awaiting arms, announcing to the world, or space, that a new life has been created.

There was a comfortable silence in the air as Reed and Sue cooed their child, Herbie wheeled up beside Sue to cover her with a space blanket, he also stared in curiosity. Johnny maneuvers his way around Sage to get a glimpse at his newborn nephew.

  “Franklin,” Sue utters softly, confirming the baby’s name, the woman glanced at her brother with a smile, Sage understood the significance behind that name and the bond between the siblings.

Sue and Ben exchanged tiny grins, her glossy eyes moving to Sage, whose face morphed into a gentle smile, gazing at the couple in awe as they dotted over their newborn.

 Franklin Richards finally arrived.

  En route to the next jump point that can navigate them to safety, Reed hauls Sue up gently against the panel, as she starts to contract even more now. Sage hears the panic in her voice as she lists off all the worries to Reed about their baby. She couldn’t help but think about her parents…her real parents. The ones who left her when she was just a child with her older sister, the ones who couldn’t take care of them and decided to give up on their children because they were too busy dealing with their own issues.

A tear runs down her hot cheek, sniffling as she wipes it with the back of her hand, bowing her head as her mind went fuzzy. Sage never understood how to control her emotions or her powers, conditioned to not act up or show any sliver of anger or sadness, according to Zen-Log, Yon Rogg’s prodigy, who mentored Sage after she woke up from the surgery, immediately thrusting her into training, teaching the girl everything about the Kree.

Boy, that’s all one big fat stupid lie.

“Sage…babe. Come here,” the girl hears Sue’s soothing voice calls her name, Sue’s hand reaches out, inviting her to join them. Sage shakes her head, “No no , I don’t-I don’t wanna intervene- ““Sage c’mon,” Reed beckons, waving the girl over gently, Sage floats over to the couple with no hesitation.

Sue catches the girl’s hand, pulling her close; still feeling the contractions, but she stays tranquil. “Listen to me,” her hand cups Sage’s tear-stained cheek, in a motherly gesture, her thumb wiping away a stray one, “It’s okay to cry…you might’ve been taught and to think differently about yourself in the past…you may feel that now... but you will fight this. I promise.” Sage’s bottom lip trembles, the worrying pit in her chest melts away as Sue’s words hit her. “You aren’t alone in this.” That brought her back to the conversation her and Johnny had a couple months before this mission. The storm siblings always knew what to say. She feels Reed’s arm wrapping around her shoulder, giving her a small grin, reminding the girl he’s here too.

“You did so well back there…Carol would be proud.” Reed compliments her, Sage bashfully smiles, a wet laugh comes from her throat. Locking eyes with the couple, she realizes that they distracted her, calmed her, and grounded her. The couple staring at her with admiration as Sage could feel herself simmering down, grateful she had them to shake out the insecurities.

“I hate to ruin the happy moment, but we got a surfer on our six.” Ben alerted, the trio’s heads shot up as the beeping on the monitor indicating that she returned.  

“Johnny…kill her.” Sue calls out for her brother, her voice lacing with venom, switching to a complete 180. She wanted this woman GONE and honestly, Sage is on board with that.

Johnny swiveling around in his seat towards his sister, “Really?!” he asks, not fully believing what she just told him, but if it meant getting them safe and sound, then he’d do it.

“Yes! She wants your nephew, kill her- ““Alright alright!” given in, he flies over to the gunner’s position.

“Sage, take Johnny’s place,” Reed directs the girl, and she obeys.

Johnny starts up the gun, and fires away, but the beams missed as she dodges his shots, “The wormhole is bending the beam!”

He shoots repeatedly, still missing her, Sage sees the movement on the monitor while she worked with Ben and Reed to secure the next destination.  

 “Johnny, stop screwing around!” Ben shouts, “Listen, I’ll tell you how to drive the ship, don’t tell me how to kill a sexy alien!” Johnny throws back with a threatening tone.

“DO NOT CALL HER SEXY.” Sage yells, warning him, becoming annoyed with the term, Johnny flirting with the enemy was not on the mission to-do list.

Suddenly, a cheer from Johnny as he finally hit the surfer, causing her to stumble into the waves of the wormhole. “Yes!” “That’s what I’m talking about!” Sage chuckling to their antics.  Their excitement was cut short as the electronic figure appeared on the monitor again, signaling that it didn’t phase her. “She’s back!” “Reed, I can’t shake her!”

Sage lets out a frustrated groan, standing up abruptly from her seat, walking to the hatch at the back of the ship again, and preparing herself to go after this woman. Johnny watches her as he continues his task with the gun, contemplating joining her, but he knows she’s able to handle it.

  “I got her.” She alerts the group, launching out of the door and flying to the silver lady.

   Yellow and blue sparks ride over Sage’s body as she turns the corner of the ship, forcefully kicking her in the face, letting her presence be known as she plans to fight. Sage lands both of her feet onto the woman’s chest aggressively to knock her off the surfboard. Silver targets Sage with her white energy, throwing blasts left and right, Sage successfully dodges but barely. She’s fast…. but Sage is faster.

 Sage throws multiple bursts of yellow energy while igniting her signature glow, intensifying to blind the surfboard lady, and Sage spots an exit point in the wormhole to send her and hopefully for good. “Johnny, on my mark!” she calls the boy through her earpiece, “Aim for my blast when I shoot!” “On it!” Holding her fists up, the energy sizzling throughout her body, “Ready? 3…2…1, NOW!” Sage’s light mixed with the power of the gun flare, creating a massive explosion, and it flung Silver into the exit point. Johnny’s excited shouts sounded into her comms, “Plenty more where that came from.” the girl whispers to herself proudly and soars back to the ship.

Once she reached the hatch, flying into the ship as her energy dims, hovering back to her seat, she wizzes past Johnny, “That was awesome!” Johnny compliments the teamwork, their hands slapping into a high five.  

 Reed and Ben discussed the next jump point while Sage dealt with the surfer lady, and by the time she comes back, the ship arrives on a dusty orange climate with a gleaming yellow star, Sage lets out a relieved breath, we’re almost out of this. Reed mentioned using the FTL engine as a disguise to escape so it confuses the silver lady, and she goes through the star while they set a course for home.

  Not long after, the silver lady is on their tail again, “Ben, she’s still on us,” Sage informs Ben. They needed to think of the next step and fast. Reed and Ben pushed more buttons as Sage kept up with their pace while Johnny continued his task,  “I’m able to slingshot us around the star, get us a better advantage point,” Ben complies with his friend, “We’ll use it,” Sage’s eyes widen as he mentions the ship coming close to a star like this, “Reed, that’s basically a blackhole,” the girl argues, not sure what the plan is now, “Hold up, won’t that kill us?” Johnny shouts, adding to Sage’s comment, he’s busy shooting at Silver again.

 Sage would know, with countless space travel experience, she’s come close to a few and getting sucked into a star means a delay in time…. a gravity well. Carol’s taught Sage all about the knowledge of blackholes and if someone or something goes into a star, it could take months and or even years for them to escape.

Sage swivels her seat around to Sue, who is still floating above the control panel, clutching her belly as she felt another contraction begin, groaning in pain. Sage timed her contractions the minute they entered the ship after escaping Galactus, coming in at about 30 seconds apart from each set.

Then, an idea popped into her head, an idea that may or not work, and she’s willing to test it and if it doesn’t work, there’s plan B. Well, she just came up with plan B, but it’s now or never.

“Reed, I have an idea, and you might not like it.”

content: back on Earth 828, time for the family to face the music, sage and franklin bonding, auntie sage and uncle johnny <3, a carol cameo! and no one knows when these two will see each other again.

summary: Sage Danvers is scouted out by Reed Richards himself to go on a mission with the rest of the Fantastic Four to figure out who and what will destroy Earth 828, the Fantastic Four’s home, but someone important decided to show up early as they attempt to escape the silver surfer lady.

  As the Excelsior breaches the atmosphere of Earth 828, the ship flies its way to the massive structure of the Baxter Building, Sage spots the Hoopty still parked on the ramp near the back entrance of the Future Foundation headquarters as the Excelsior slides into the dock, locking them into place.

The anti-gravity no longer turned on as the five unclips themselves out of their seats, already getting rid of the helmets, and as the group is making their way to the entrance of the ship, Sage starts to feel a sense of dread, a cold sensation slithering down the back of her neck, making the hairs stand up, she can’t help but wonder what Reed will announce to the press as they managed to find Galactus, but at what cost? What’s the purpose? How does one confess to the people of their world that an entity threatened your home, and you have to give up your unborn child?

   Sage shook her mind of the endless void of her thoughts, she begins to clench and unclench her fists as Reed gathers everyone to walk out and into the public, Sue is now dressed in a beige jumpsuit with the Future Foundation logo stitched onto the sleeves as she holds Franklin, who is wrapped in a space blanket.

Franklin’s wide blue eyes latch onto Sage, then to Johnny, the girl notices, it made her heart soar seeing the baby discover his surroundings for the first time. The couple positioned at the front with Reed on one side and Sage on the other side of Sue, Johnny behind her and Ben bringing up the latter, Reed pressed a button to open the hatch, and they make their way through the orange cylinder corridors, into the elevator shaft.

 With Sage beside Sue, Franklin moves his tiny arm out of the blanket and reaches a finger out to the girl, she understands what he’s trying to do and gives him her pointer finger, he attempts to wrap his small finger around it, Sage’s grin becoming wider, “Here little man, give you some warmth,” Sage releases a surge of hot energy, not too hot, and Franklin lets out the cutest sigh as he snuggles back into his mom.

Johnny watched the whole interaction with fondness sharp in his eyes between Sage and his nephew with a wide smile.

However, his main priority was to get everyone into the building and start to come up with a plan that can stop Galactus and the Herald from reaching Earth 828 and Franklin. He already had a few ideas in mind, being one step ahead in the game.

  The lift doors swished open and the five began to walk down the concreate ground. The group stayed silent as Reed guided Sue with a hand on her back, Sage shifted next to Sue as Johnny stepped in front of them with Ben in the back, Herbie rolling behind the family.

Everybody held solemn looks on their faces as Lynne Nicholas met them halfway, a grateful smile plastered on her face as she led the family into the entrance of the Future Foundation Building, “Thank God! C’mon, they’re waiting for you.”

The minute the group set foot in the building, they were immediately bombarded with blinding flashes from the large cameras while a swarm of press ran up, Johnny reaches for Sage’s hand as he could sense her anxiousness brewing by the amount of people and the shouting of their voices.

Believe it or not, she’s never made any headlines, been in a newspaper or televised on the news back on Earth 616, despite being with Carol and her popularity. Oh, she’s definitely going to be made into a headline now.

Several beeps emitted from her suit pocket, realizing it was her pager, she thumbs through the fabric to grasp it in her hand, Carol’s symbol flashing on the rectangular screen. Carol’s calling her home. The girl freezes in her path, the family already up near the podium, Sage moves her head to glance at Reed and Sue, then to Ben, and to Johnny.

Relieving a regretful sigh from her lips, closing her eyes as she feels the disappointment settling in her chest. They just returned and now Sage must leave to go back to her home.

“Wait Johnny-“He stops as soon he hears his name being called.

He turns his whole body around, giving Sage his full attention, ignoring the flashes of the cameras and the voices of the reporters.

“Here,” Sage held an extra pager, it’s processed with her coordinates and with one click of a button, it’ll alert her. As she places the object into his hand, hers laying on top of his, her eyes staring right into Johnny’s solemn eyes.

 “Take this, my coordinates are in here. It’s for emergencies and emergencies only.” She adds in a firm tone, his eyes follow the pager, his eyebrows twisting in confusion, “You’re leaving so soon? Sage, we just came back.” He questioned, wondering why she must go now.

 Shaking her head dismissively, “I know but Carol needs me, and You know I don’t do well around these kinds of people.” She rebuttals, upset that she must leave immediately without saying goodbye to Reed, Sue, Ben and baby Franklin.

Johnny didn’t want to let Sage go, he wanted her to stay, to help figure out a plan to stop Galactus and show that she’s still a part of this mission, but when superhero duties call.

“If you or anyone needs me, use this. I’ll be there.” Johnny’s gaze still focused on her; he hesitates but nods his head at her subtle demand.

Once their hands drifted apart, Johnny pulls Sage into a gentle hug with his hands wrapping around her torso with hers around his neck, his head nuzzling into her shoulder. She felt Johnny’s familiar sizzle as she cuddles into his solid suit covered chest.

Their hug felt like it lasted for hours, but only being a few seconds before separating.

"I want updates on my nephew," she comments playfully, and Johnny nods his head at her request, he's already planning on contacting her at every minute he can.

“I’ll see you around Flame Boy,” Sage says, a tiny smile forming on her face as she calls him by his nickname.

Johnny copies her smile as she walks slowly to the doors of the Future Foundation building.

“You too, Night Light.”

And she’s off as fast as the speed of light.

content: the people of Earth 828 aren't happy with the family, some fluff between sage and johnny, reed is a genius (obviously), and sage realizes that family is the most important thing from sue.

The beeping from my watch awoke me from what felt like peaceful endless slumber, lifting my head up and I noticed I was still lying on top of Johnny, who is dead asleep. The loud sound wasn’t doing anything to wake him, even in his deepest sleep.

  I eyed the time on my watch, reading ‘7:02pm’, we were supposed to be downstairs for family dinner two minutes ago, per Reed’s instructions.

“Shit, Johnny, get up, we’re late for dinner, Reed’s going to have our asses.” I attempted to move out of his embrace, but his arms tightened around me, and I stifled a sigh.

 “Noooo just five more minutes, they can wait.”  Johnny says in a low and raspy voice, I could hear the tiredness seeping through it.

 I crawled up towards his upper body, resting myself near his face, leaning in, “What if I told you Ben was planning to make pizza?” When I mentioned pizza, his eyes shot up immediately. “Pizza? From the massive brick oven?” I nodded with a smile and a hum, “Mhm, and if we don’t get down there, we won’t have any.”

 He instantly rose up and began searching for comfier clothes considering he’s still in his space suit. The minute my feet touched the carpet, I walked to the bathroom that was across the hall from his room, but I heard a voice mumbling before I closed the door. Curiosity struck me and I decided to head down the stairs to follow the commotion.

“And they choose not to.” I ended up in the sunken living room where Ben and Reed stood in front of the tv, Sue waltzed in right as I was about to step in. A warm hand clasped around my hip, stopping me, I already knew it’s Johnny, “What’s going on?” He whispered, “I don’t know.” He guided the two of us further into the room, coming up in between his sister and Ben.

We all glanced at the tv as the two male reporters spoke, Sue’s eyebrows were slightly pinched, and she stared in silent disbelief.

“The idea is simple…. Reed Richards and Sue Storm hand over their baby and we all live. One life-“

Their nonsense statement was cut short as the tv suddenly was destroyed by Sue, who blasted it with her powers, causing the screen to collapse, smoke steaming from the now open hole of the entertainment system. Sue places her hands on her hips after she finished the job.

No one batted an eye; it’s a completely valid reaction.

“Assholes.” I muttered, crossing my arms over my chest. I still couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that everyone wants them to give up Franklin and to a powerful space God who can devour this world in a millisecond. I haven’t been here for even two days, and these people are already acting selfish and unaware of the situation. It disgusted me.

I noticed Ben’s head turned towards the wide rectangular windows and he began to make his way to the door to the balcony, Johnny started to follow, he whisked my hand into his to bring me along.

The shouts of the angry people of New York sounded out below as Johnny, Ben and I walk out onto the terrace of the balcony, there are signs plastered onto wooden poles being waved around, some reading in black handwriting: “Give up the child!” “4 NO MORE!” and people shouted, “Come down from the tower!” “Cowards!”

“Are you serious?” Shaking my head as I say in a whisper, this chaos all caused because Sue and Reed wouldn’t give Franklin to Galactus, but only if they knew what would happen to their world if Galactus had the child in his possession.

The three of us glance at each other with a worried expressions – this is not good.

We made it back inside and told the couple about the growing crowd outside of their home. Reed rubbed his forehead with a stressful gesture and Sue didn’t say a word, she just shook her head, already a step ahead of her thoughts.

The five of us sat at the circular dining table; I sat between Sue and Johnny with Ben and Reed on the opposite side. Johnny held my hand under the table as we discussed the next plan of action, whatever plan that consisted of at this point.

The contents in my stomach jumbled together as a wave of nausea flowed over me as another memory of the Supreme Intelligence sending Zen-Logg and a group of Kree soldiers were sent after me right when Carol rescued me from them. They wanted me back- to take me away from safety. It sends shivers down my spine and a knot in my throat to think if they had caught me, what they would’ve done to me again.

Carol decided to move us to a location where they couldn’t track while keeping us out of their universal range, we ended up living out of The Hoopty before settling down in Louisiana. She kept both of us out of harm’s way until Carol took up Fury’s offer to scour different space systems and universes for any unusual activity in the meantime.

This all hit very close to home.

“That…is scary.” Johnny’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts; he points his thumb in the direction of the angry mob brewing outside.

“More like terrifying.” I commented.

“You know they can’t hurt us.” Ben abided. I knew that, but it was just the idea of people wanting to hurt others because everything is at a high level of stress and anxiety.

“They’re scared because right now because we don’t have a working theory or a solid plan.” Reed consoles, he looked to be deep in a thought as he spoke, “They hate us for it, and they hate Franklin.”  Sue raises her eyebrows, confusion written on her face as she and Reed start to argue.

“Time is moving fast and their plan is mathematical, it’s ethical and available.” Sue raised her eyebrow at Reed’s quip, “What are you saying?” She snaps and Reed replies with a seriousness filling his words, “I’m not saying anything you’re thinking, Sue-“ My eyes watched the couple quarrel, they mostly communicated with their facial expressions. I could feel Johnny’s heat scorching beside me, my hand reaching for him, my thumb caresses his knuckle, and his free one gripped my thigh to ease himself. The woman just scoffs while she continues to look at Reed until Franklin’s cries rang through the baby monitor, interrupting the quarrel, and Sue stands up to go check on him.

 I go to follow her, but she cups my shoulder in comfort, “It’s alright, sweetheart, I got it.” Johnny and I stared at his sister as she left, a lingering ache stirred in my chest as I thought about how overwhelmed she must be over all of this. The mere thought of giving up your one-month-old child for the sake of the universe doesn’t sit right with any of this, not to mention, the whole public eye agreeing that they give up the child or else.

Johnny, Ben and I sat in silence as Reed got up from his chair to follow his wife.

“This isn’t fair. It’s not right.” I shook my head as I broke the quietness, “Sue can’t give him up, no matter how much the public despises that, it can’t happen.” Determination runs through my words as I spoke.

Johnny grips my hand on my hand tightens, his thumb now rubbing over my knuckle, trying his best to soothe the rage bubbling up inside me.

“And we won’t, Sage. It’s been said and done.” Ben added with a gentle twang in his voice.

“But this could turn into-“ I tried to argue but a few seconds later, Sue walks down the hallway from their bedroom, holding Franklin, “Sage, come with me,” she reaches for me and we head to the lift.

The lift lowered us to the main floor of the building, the crowds of the people of 828 surrounding the front entrance, their shouts echoing through the double doors and windows.

Sue’s hand held mine as we ventured into the sea of very angry New Yorkers, they drifted apart as we passed through, their stares searing into our skin.

“You’re selfish!” “Who’s the girl?” “Why did you’d even bring him out here?” I heard a few people squabbling, my pulse races as someone mentioned me and the only thing I could imagine was how confusing it is to see a person from another universe, unheard of, to be here. I fear for Sue because this is her child they are upset over, the team had failed them, and now their world is in danger because they couldn’t stop Galactus. I moved myself into her side as I scanned the crowd, on high alert.

Sue’s eyes wander around anxiously, figuring out how to start a statement.

“I want to introduce you to some people,” Sue announces, bouncing Franklin in her arms as we stood in front of the Fantastic Four statue.

“This is our son, Franklin, and this is Sage,” The woman looks down at the baby and then at me, “There’s been a lot of talk about them.” She comments, her eyes wandering to a few people near us.

A spark of confidence welled up inside me, “I’m Sage, Sage Danvers. I’m from Earth-616, another universe that’s parallel to your world. I know it’s strange seeing someone that’s unfamiliar with the family, but I’ve known them for quite a while.” I took a breath, “I understand your fear, I understand the unknown this brings. I’ve been there, many times.  But you must realize there are more lives at stake here, not just all of you, but ours as well.”

Reasoning with the public is daunting, a give or take situation, it could turn ugly very fast if someone disagrees. On one occasion, I had to speak to the Skrulls before about their home becoming a target for Dar-Benn, Carol and I persuaded them to move locations and to a safer one. Needless to say, it worked, but it took a major leap for the Skrulls to sacrifice their home.

I noticed Sue’s smile in my peripheral as she listened, fondness shined in her eyes while Franklin quietly babbling as he stared with a gummy grin.  

“I had parents once, human ones. They abandoned my sister and I when we were kids. We got separated and I never saw her again, but I was taken in by an amazing woman who possesses the same powers as I do.” I balled one of my fists as my yellow energy twirled my skin, showing off one of my abilities to ease the public, “I went through a lot to get to where I am today. I never had a real, solid family, but all I can say is that this family…. They always had my back when I needed them. Many of you have families too, and I’m sure you would do the same.” Sue reaches for my hand, squeezing gently, letting me know that’s she right here.

Sue steps in, “And most of you know me, about Johnny and I’s story.”

“When Johnny and I were kids, our parents were in a car crash. Our dad was driving, and he lived, but our mom didn’t.”

“I know what it’s like to be part of a family that was torn apart.” Sue says, you could hear the tears welling up in her voice, but she continued. My heart clenches as I felt that same feeling of once having a family and suddenly, there’s no family anymore.

“Our dad, he wasn’t always a good father, but he wanted to be. He tried his best because he wanted us to be together because that’s what family is!”

My hand clutches Sue’s, she returns the gesture, “It’s about fighting for something bigger than yourself. It’s about connecting to something bigger than yourself.” Sue’s arm wraps around my back, bringing me closer, and coddling Franklin.

There was a sound of a tiny “ding!” behind us, we both turned around to see Reed, Johnny and Ben at the entrance of the building. They came out to give encouragement, to show that nothing could tear either one of us apart.

Johnny smiling at Sue and I, Ben waved and Reed gave me a thumbs up while staring at his wife lovingly, they grinned at one another before she continued to speak. I unlatched from Sue; she kissed my forehead, and I lightly caressed Franklin’s back before I stepped off the concrete platform, walking over to the three men.

When I reached them, I stood next to Johnny, his hand resting on my lower back, mine clutching his bicep, resting my cheek on his warm and muscular shoulder. We watched Sue give the rest of her speech.

“It’s about having something bigger than yourself. And the four of us already do because we have you.” Sue says to the whole crowd. “And we would do that for you.” I grinned as wide as I could, Reed kept his eyes on his wife.

“You know our mom used to say ‘Susie, for you, I would move Heaven and Earth.”

My head perked up as I recognized those words, looking over at Reed, but he was still on Sue.

“I will not sacrifice my child for this world.”

“But I will not sacrifice this world for my child.” The whole crowd began to clap in unison; they finally understood what our message was trying to convey.

“We will face this together, we will fight it together and we will defeat this together, as a family.” Sue finalizes with the humming crowd.

Claps and cheers erupt as I grinned at Sue being able to control the public as well like she always does. Johnny rubbed my arm in a comfortable motion while we waited for Sue to meet at the front of the building. Johnny, coming up to beside her, already in a giddy and playful mood, teased his sister’s words of “as a family,” as they giggled quietly. He turned to his other side at me, “And you miss confidence, you were amazing, loved ‘the showing off your powers to ease them’ message. No one seemed fazed but they are protected by people with powers too so they wouldn’t-“Johnny’s spit balling threw me for a loop, but I listened, nonetheless.

“Okay fire flirt we get it,” Ben chimed in, I held in a chuckle.  

“You did really well out there with me,” Sue complimented me with a warm smile, I swiveled around to face her.

 I stifled a light laugh as I shyly took it, “Not my first time talking to a massive group like them, let alone humans and non-human life forms. If anything, you were incredible.” I laid a hand on her arm; she flashed me a wide smile.

Reed stepped in frame and my brain went back to Sue saying the key to solving the other link in the chain. The brother and sister plus Ben moved to look at him, “Archimedes, the law of levers. Give me a place to stand and I will move the Earth; we will move Heaven and Earth.” He complies, “Just Earth though.” I muttered.

“Sue, you figured it out.” He moves closer to her and his child, “I did?” she shot him a hopeful gaze.

Reed nodded, smiling at her, I could tell his brain was turning as he’s figured out the next steps in the second plan in all of this.

Johnny and Ben looked at each other as Reed conjured up his idea and how we can stop Galactus.

“The bridge, we can use it to move the Earth and away from Galactus.”

“The bridge is a prototype.” Sue states, and her brother raise an eyebrow at Reed.

“You moved an egg across the room; you think you’re able to do that with a planet?”

“The bridge is capable, he ran a few tests with it, it’s optimal of its power.” I added, resting my hands on my hip as I remembered the experiment test Reed was finally able to show me. It’s full proof.

Reed looked at all of us and then back to Sue, “It has to work, we will make it work.”

She heard his voice through the comms as “Tell Franklin that Uncle Johnny loves him.” He says, his voice firm as he soars at the bright white light in the middle of Galactus’ chest. That’s all she remembers.

Once Galactus is sent through the portal, snapping closed immediately. Franklin safely settled in Reed’s arms, collecting Sue as she too was thrown back by the aftermath, Ben running up to the couple while Johnny flew above, he felt a dreadful sensation in his chest. One that screams; something isn’t right.

His eyes scanning the perimeter, and he spots her.

Sage, who didn’t move an inch.

He immediately flies down to her, his flames extinguished as he runs to her. Reed, Sue and Ben follow him and as they reached where Johnny’s at, the 3 registering her unconsciousness. Sue lets out a loud gasp, Ben’s eyes widen in horror and Reed’s face freezes as he registers her condition.

Johnny kneels beside Sage, his gloved hands brushes the hair away from her face, he places a finger on the side of her neck, searching for a pulse but it’s silent. An ear to her chest for a heartbeat, nothing. Johnny becomes restless, attempting everything he can to wake her up.

content: spoilers for fantastic four: first steps. meeting galactus, johnny tries to woo the silver lady, sage has a bad feeling about this, and everyone escapes but just barely. !contains the scene of the group seeing galactus and sage is with them! and another look into one of sage's abilities; healing.

summary: Sage Danvers is scouted out by Reed Richards himself to go on a mission with the rest of the Fantastic Four to figure out who and what will destroy Earth 828, the Fantastic Four’s home, but someone important decided to show up early as they attempt to escape the silver surfer lady.

pre mission, intro, part 1

Following the silver lady, Ben lowers the Excelsior onto the cold and foggy ground inside of the Galactus’ ship, everyone suiting up, securing their helmets and checking over everything before heading to the lift. Sage lets out a shuddered breath, hands trembling, and her mind wondered off to the last recon…the burning pain nestled in her chest, near her heart, the constant ringing in the ears, and everything becoming too much for her body to handle. What if she can’t do it this…. what if she gets hurt again… and no one’s able to save her this time. What if-

 Her pondering is interrupted by a gloved hand grasping her own, it’s Johnny’s. He stops her overthinking.  Even while wearing the suits, she still able to feel his heat blossoming through the material. Her eyes gaze up from their intertwined hands to meet his, “Let’s find this Galactus and go home,” the boy replies, eyes shimmering with hope, and she nods in response, “Get in and get out.”

   The five stepped out from the lift and onto the dark and squishy ground of the ship, fog slithering around their feet as Herbie wheels away to collect samples per Reed’s request.  Sage sticks beside Johnny, Sue and Reed in the front with Ben in the back, Sue turns her head to check on the girl, Sage catching her gaze, shooting a thumbs up, Sue grins, taking that as she’s all good.

   Out of nowhere, the silver lady appears again, “Follow,” her voice demanding and the group does as they’re told. “I’ve got a bad feeling about this.” Sage utters to herself.

The journey to this Galactus felt like an eternity, but Sage couldn’t help but wonder who this thing was or what it’s capable of, but her thoughts are interrupted by Sue asking silver girl a question, “So how does he know what planets to consume?” there’s a pause, “He does not.” The realization comes to Sue, “You choose.” She whispers in a harsh voice.

  “Yes.” But her voice sounds solemn, as if she didn’t choose to do any of this. Sage can’t help but wonder if this woman made a deal with this entity and that’s why she’s in charge of the demolishment of planets.

  As the group makes their way further into the cold and dreary atmosphere, Johnny leans himself to side, his flames engulfing his body as he noses down into the caverns below them, “Wait Johnny what are doing?” Sage asks, about to go after him, “Johnny- ““Relax, I’m gonna charm her,” he comments nonchalantly, he’s trying to woo the silver lady, Sage rolls her eyes dramatically. Typical Johnny.

Minutes later, Johnny lands in between Sage and Ben, flames extinguishing, a blank expression on his face, “Soooo how’d go?” Sage teases, mischievousness in her voice, “I see she dumped you already,” Ben adds to said teasing. “No actually it went well.” Johnny answers sarcastically.

  The group stumbles upon a large open space, standing on the edge of the cliff and the silver lady raises her arm up to the void, “You now stand before Galactus,” two oval eyes burst open suddenly, shining bright purple and the being leans forward, they all step back in shock as to how giant this entity is. Sage’s legs almost turned to jelly once they got a better look at him, her hand reaching towards Johnny’s bicep to stabilize herself.

  “I was once little like you, billions of years ago.” Galatcus’ voice made Sage jump a little, not prepared for how loud he was. He speaks about this “eternal hunger,” and the group glanced at one another, but stood their ground.

“You have traveled far?” “Yes.” Reed responds, “And you have brought someone from another world.” Oh no. Sage’s breath hitches in her throat and her body stills,  Johnny senses her tenseness, moving before she does, bringing her slightly behind him to lessen the attention of the girl.

“To beg for mercy?”

“To talk.” Reed states.

“You have the power to save your world?”

“I believe we do.”

What Galactus says next shocks all of them, “Inside her…. the child.” Sue holds her belly protectively, Sage and Johnny peer over at his sister, “What the hell?” “What is he talking about?” Sage pieces it together…. Galactus needs Sue’s unborn child for the use of his own leverage, to release him of this “hunger,” how the child is bound to possess all knowns of cosmic power, but he will spare Earth 828 in exchange for the baby.

Sage couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

“What? No.” Sue cries out.

“No that’s not true, he’s normal. I tested the child, I know, we know he’s normal!” Reed exclaims, trying to persuade Galactus.

Sage’s heart drops in her stomach as Reed spoke those words. She felt that way about herself, she’s not normal. Even before everything she went through…. when she developed her abilities, her life before the accident.

Galactus’ body cranes down, becoming eye level with the five of them, one of his oval eyes staring right at Sue as his iris gleams an intense purple and pink glow, and the woman yells in agony. He used his power to induce Sue into giving birth early.

“No stop!”

“What did you do to her?!” Sage and Johnny rush to her side, “The baby’s coming.”

“You will not have our planet and you will not have our son!” Reed argues, holding onto Sue as he points at Galactus to show that it’s never going to happen. Sage felt the rush of anger flow through her, the blue and yellow sparks hover over her hands as it flows around her body, and she feels the warmth of Johnny beside her.

Now being twice his size, Galactus threatens, “I will devour your planet slowly as your child watches.” And Sue howls as another contraction strikes.

Sage and Johnny take off, separating from left to right, with silver lady flying after Johnny as he fires at Galactus’ main industrial tubes that were stationed at the side of him while Sage dips and dives as she uses her photon blasts to punch Galactus and at the back of him where more tubes were inserted.

The silver lady is on Johnny’s tail, but Sage soars in and intervenes in her path, Sage’s mouth curls into a snarl, fed up with her. Hurling the board at Sage, dodging the object and Sage rapidly fires her blasts. With the lady now chasing her, she sees Johnny’s flamed silhouette flicker, coughing as he lands harshly on the ground.

 Sage began to sense a dull ache in her chest as she flew back to the group. The ache tightens more, causing her airways to constrict, and her body fails to keep her up and she tumbles right beside Johnny, powers dimming in and out.

  Sue and Reed making their way down the steps in a hurried manner, Ben skipping as he grabs Johnny, hulling him over his broad shoulders, and grabbing Sage as she’s thrown over his other shoulder.

   Jogging back to the ship, Reed alerts Herbie to prepare for launch, but Ben’s running was cut short as the lady collides with the trio, smashing Ben into the wall, Johnny and Sage thrown like ragdolls. Reed raises his hand to use his ability to fight her, he too is tossed aside violently.

  Sage registers that Sue is alone now, the girl quietly rises to assist Sue, but she gets the upper hand. The rainbow luminesces surrounds Sue, her fingers intimate a choking action, and flings the silver lady behind them, separating from the board and falling into the lava. The girl watched in awe, that was so badass.

 “Johnny don’t say it,” Sage warns the boy, already ahead of him. “The surfboard is not apart of the body.” His voice straining and she huffs out a sigh, shaking her head in disbelief.

 Ben hoisted Johnny over his shoulder once again while Sage followed on her feet, Reed and Sue in front of the three, and Herbie beeping as he wheels beside the group as they all run into the lift doors leading up to the ship, closing immediately.

The doors leading to the main control room whoosh open, Johnny is placed haphazardly on the floor and Sage’s legs weaken beneath her, “HERBIE!” Ben bellows out for the robot, Sage and Johnny throw off their helmets while Reed and Sue follow in tandem. The blonde boy gasps for air, his face flushed red, clutching his chest, Sage starts to heave as yellow and blue sparks flicker around her hands, this is exactly what Carol was afraid of. This is not good. Definitely not good.

Sue lets out a gut wrenching and painful screech as she felt another contraction hit her, Reed looks back at her and the two kids struggling to regain their strength, “Get us out of here Ben!” he directs at his friend, Ben hurriedly presses a few buttons and pulls up the lever to start the ship, it roars to life, the nose facing towards the ground, Ben blasting through the rubble, and off they went.

Reed, Sue, Johnny and Sage hang on for dear life as the anti-gravity turns on, the fluorescent yellow energy mixed with a light blue hue circling Sage’s body as she grips one of the handlebars nearby,  sensing that her powers are becoming unstable, and she’s petrified that she might throw herself into distress again if she isn’t able to control it.

Johnny peers over at the girl, he catches her figure in his peripheral, “Sage-” he softly calls out to her, obviously concerned, his mind thinking about the pain he’s feeling from pushing himself over the edge while Sage flew on the opposite side of him as the two distracted the silver surfer to aid in everyone’s escape from Galactus. 

 Sue levitates over the big panel in the middle of the room, wailing as she tries to breathe through the pain, calling out for Reed, with Ben at the helm, navigating a way to get them out of here.

Johnny floats over to the glowing girl, grabbing at her hand, “I’m okay, my healing’s kicking in,” she responds, her voice low and raspy, attempting to catch her breath, the yellow light slowly fading off her body, “Are you…?” she asks, his face with a hint of flush still present and his breathing labored, “I’m good, it’s just the after effects,” he reassures, nodding his head.

What Sage does next is something she’s never done before.

She places her hand on his chest gently, a tiny orange light shimmers in the palm of her hand, absorbing the rest of the lingering pain as it disappears from his body. She pulls her hand away, realizing that it worked. Johnny registering of what occurred…did she just heal him? Sage is capable of healing herself, but she’s never tested it out on someone else.  Let alone another superhero. He gazed at her with a glint in his eyes, her muted green eyes meeting his bright blues, both riddled with shock.

“Sage and Johnny, up here,” The two were broken from their small moment.

 Flying up where Ben is, the two strapped themselves in their seats, ready for the next plan of action. The two listen in as Reed and Ben discuss the tactics, solidifying, confirming the plan and Reed floats his way over to Sue, grabbing her arm, pulling her weightless body into him.

“Attach to jump!” Reed says to Ben, tending to Sue.

“And go where?” Ben replied.

“Anywhere just jump!” Ben didn’t think twice and began to descend to the FTL engine.

Ben heads to the FTL engine, moving the ship back into the machine, but it was going to be a rough fit, considering they’re escaping from a galactic lunatic man and a silver surfboard lady, there’s no other way.

Johnny punched the buttons on his panel, preparing for the jump, while Sage aided Ben with steering the ship into the mechanism, but as soon as it was ready, Sage felt everything shift in slow motion.

Sage spins behind her to witness Reed with Sue pressed against him and she sees it.

The walls dissipate and the silver lady appears in the ship, her hand reaching for Sue’s belly. She’s trying to snatch the baby right out of her Sue’s womb. Sue lets out a frightening screech with a horrified look on Reed’s face, both frozen still, no clue how to get out of this.

“BEN!” “SAGE!”

Sage is quick on her feet, aiming a fist at the silver woman, the bright energy powers up across her arm, detecting the rush through her veins, and BOOM! The blast chucks the woman out of the ship, and simultaneously, Ben confirmed the jump, they’re out of there.
