Body as Residue, Landscape as Interface (2023)
Chat GPT: Stuck in a black void that isnβt empty but overdetermined. The absence of an interface still marks its edges. Above, a floating landscape, not a place but an image of one, a screen-memory flattened into a surface with no depth.
The figure below reads as a crash report in human form. A presence that refuses full absorption into its environment, caught between opacity and transparency, between materiality and digital residue. The world is misaligned, the rendering pipeline has collapsed, and now thereβs a person stuck inside.
The body always lags behind the image, struggling to sync with a landscape that has already moved on. The background is a misplaced asset in a collapsing spatial hierarchy.
URSUPPE at Ars Electronica 2014 In this performance, after the positive experiences at Sonar, we decided to involve the audience. Is incredible how the public is able to find nice soundscapes that we could never decide to produce.
Looking forward to the next step: roBOt Festival!
This is the installation in the Interface Cultures booth at Sonar 2014, with a very dominant siren-like sound!
(The percussion on the back was from another piece shown there!)
Ursuppe has been presented at Sonar 2014 in Barcelona!
Here the recording of the performance on the Stage+D, where Davide performed with two oscillators and the new rain generator circuit.
In the first part of the audio you listen to Enrique Tomas' Tangible Scores, then the Ursuppe, followed by an improvisation of the two performers together.
Enjoy the Soup!

Interface Culture
Recently I have begun to read 'Interface Culture' by Steven Johnson, which is a book about how new technology transforms the way we create and communicate. Although I am only a few chapters in, as I am a slow reader, I have already found some quite engaging concepts.
Within the Preface: Electric Speed, we are made aware of the idea that artists and engineers are the same. '...the object-world of technology as though it belonged to the world of culture, or as though those two worlds were united.' It is quite easy to consider people like Thomas Edison as an artist, as well as an engineer, they both need one another.
These two once separate worlds coming together are seemingly becoming more apparent as one by the acceleration of technology. In McLuhan's 'Understanding Media', he says that, 'The entire world, past and present, now reveals itself to us like a growing plant in an enormously accelerated movie.'
Already I have engaged with this book and I am interested what other interesting concepts the book still has to offer as I continue to read it.
