An Interview in the Labyrinth
I recently did an interview with an interview with Paul Semel about Minotaur. The interview is wide ranging, and he asked about the inspiration for the book and what happens in the novel, whether the novel is mere fantasy or something more and how my cat Anakin may have helped with the writing. The interview also goes into a bit of detail about my writing career and the other books IâveâŚ

Interview with Steve Anc
 Orville: Tell me about yourself:
Steve: I am Steve Anc, son of Ajuzie Nwaorisa, a Nigerian-born poet.
Orville: How long have you been writing poetry?
Steve: I wrote my first poem on March 29, 2018.
Orville: Why do you love poetry?
Steve: I love poetry because it evokes a kind of emotion that can't be explained with ordinary words. And it has been my wish when I was young to be called a poet.
Orville: What was your first poem and which year?
Steve: My first poem was Life A Moving Vehicle, written in the year 2018.
Orville: What is your favorite poem?
Steve: I have written many poems and I can't say I have a favorite poem.
Orville: What prompted the idea of your first poem?
Steve: It was stress. I found myself in a stressful situation when the idea of the first poem prompted my mind.
Orville: How many books have you published?
Steve: I have published five anthologies of poems
Orville: Are your books self-published or traditionally published?
Steve: Four of my anthologies were self-published but the recently published anthology was traditionally published by Prolific Pulse Press LLC
Orville: Where can the reader find your books ?
Steve: All my books are on Amazon and also in prolific pulse press and other online stores such as lulu, epub, etc
http://amazon.com/author/steveanc
https://prolificpulse.com/steveanc
Orville: What makes your writing unique?
Steve: I can't discuss my writing, because it may sound like self-praise, but I know that I have mastered the art of metaphor and I direct my words to the heart.
Orville: What are your hobbies outside of writing?
Steve: Listening to music and fishing, if I have the time to do so.
Orville: Who was the greatest influence in your writing career?
Steve: Robert William Service is a Canadian-born poet.
Orville: Do you have a favorite quote?
Steve: The sun will rise today, we will try again.
Orville: Tell me about your work
Steve: I have written lots of poems and they are in five anthologies. I write about what life had taught me and what I learned from others too.
Orville: What genre do you write in?
Steve: Poetry.
Orville: What are your book titles?
Steve: (1) I am fine: don't read this poem
(2) I wrote this for you
(3) The filthy hands and other poems
(4) The children of none: read the power of simple words
(5) Â What the ant saw: read a poem and thirst for two!
Orville: Is your work on Kindle Unlimited?
Steve: Yes
Orville: What are you currently working on (when will it be available)?
Steve: I am working on a chapbook with the title: the 36 poems in Nigeria, and a complete poetry anthology titled: the fragments of my mind
Orville: Who is your target audience?
Steve: Writers and readers communities. I am targeting those that appreciate poetry and also readers and writers of all classes.
Orville: What advice would you give a young person planning a writing career?
Steve: Writing is not a bed of roses. Don't write for the money, but if money comes...
Orville: Do you think there are writing underrepresented themes?
Steve: Yes, I think the poetry, as a genre is underrepresented. I will encourage poets to continue writing so we would defend the walls of poetry.
The MOCD is excited to present this exclusive interview and amazing track "i wish it would rain" from up and coming German producer Moritz aka club medd. When did you start making your own music? âI started when I was around 17. Recently started uploading my music about 6 months ago. It was mostly ambient and drone music recorded with this free software called audacity. I started getting into production when I recorded a krautrock/psychedelic pop ep on my own. I have always been open to all kinds of music but mainly stayed within an indie/rock direction because all of my friends were making similar music. I really started getting into production when I first heard "lovesick fuckâ by mura masa. That song really blew my mind and really made me want to get into electronic music.â How did you get the moniker club medd? "Oh wow, that is a very good question⌠haha. My mum used to work for club med. I had a real hard time settling for a name and had so many different ideas. One day, after I had just finished my first beat tape I realized that I wasnât uploading any music because I didnât have a name for the project yet so I just took the first thing that came to mind.â Any strong musical influences that really helped shape your current sound? âI have definitely been obsessed with Soulection producers in the past couple of months, although this release sounds nothing like it. And before that, I was really into lo-fi hip-hop. I tried to move away from lo-fi because I felt like it was becoming formulaic and I wanted to try something new, but I think I made most of these tracks before discovering this warm/jazzy LA sound so itâs still kinda dark. This maybe explains why a lot of the tracks still have this sort of lo-fi melancholy feel. I steal a lot of my drums from producers that I dig and looking at the sample folder of this ep, I feel like the samples tell a lot about the musicians that I loved when making this ep (Cashmere Cat, Odesza, Childish Gambino, and Swell)â Have you always been a solo artist or have you been a part of musical groups or collaborations? âI always played in bands. Most of them were indie rock bands but later I got more experimental with some noise/krautrock/psychedelic projects. I released a lot of ambient and drone music as a solo project before getting into beat makingâ What was your main inspiration for the latest album too heady? (like was there a storyline, or narrative you followed? Or did it just arrive organically as a song by song experience?) âThe storyline only came in later. At first I was just making beats without any idea of where I wanted to go. When I showed the beats to my girlfriend she said that she liked them but that they sounded kind of "headyâ. When I started to contact some of the blogs that I follow, they responded with the same thing. I really donât know. Maybe this was just the place that I was in at the time. I definitely want to try to make warmer tunes in the future.â What has been the most challenging experience for you musically? "The most challenging thing was, and still is, to find my own sonic identity. Iâm like a dog in that I get super excited by everything: One day I discover someone doing house music on SoundCloud and thatâs all I want to do for the rest of my life and the next day I discover something else and I get really excited about that. When I look at the folder of beats that I made in the last two years there are so many different genres and there is very little coherency. I feel like the songs that I am working on right now have a clearer sonic character but they are still all over the place. Man, I just get bored so easily and find it very hard to do the same thing for very long.â What are some of your greatest aspirations for club medd in the future? âI definitely would love to work with vocalists in the future; anything thatâs about community really. Making music can be a really solitary affair so I am really looking to connect with other people.I would love to find a label as well, nothing fancy, just some people who are genuinely excited about music that I could hit up if I have a question. My biggest wish definitely is to get noticed by the producers that inspired me to get into beat making, But for now, I just want to get better and make tunes that I can be proud of.â What music is currently filling your ears? (Music you play on repeat) âI really have been digging emawk (who I discovered on The MOCD). That Mac Ayres record has been on repeat for weeks. I just downloaded Ivan Aveâs new album but havenât had the time to listen to it yet (but his ârunning shoesâ track is by far my favorite song of 2017). Also, I discovered a SoundCloud podcast/radio show called âsoft focusâ some weeks ago and I really love their warm/jazzy selection.â I would like to thank Moritz for his time and talent in this latest original, ,"i wish it would rain" for its optimistic light-hearted charm is simply enchanting. Most definitely keep your ears tuned in for more music from this young talented producer. Posted by: MsGem
