why don't both sides take a break, let the school year finish without disruption, and then negotiate over the summer?

@kellyf60 You know why. The teacher orchestrated this strike to provide the biggest hassle for parents, children and the taxpayers. It's only the truly ignorant that support their demands. The teachers are extorting the public prior to them spending their summer holidays on the beach. The last thing they will do is strike during their holidays. It just goes to show where their priorities are. More money, more holidays, more benefits, more pensions ... it's shameful.
