commentary- Dear Parents of BC
commentary- Dear Parents of BC
The following is my own opinion. After discussions with many friends and colleagues, I feel secure in using a collective ‘we’ rather than the singular ‘I’. We’re voting to ratify a negotiated contract, and the vote is in no way guaranteed. However it goes, here’s what many of us are feeling.

Every year at the end of the school year, teachers with continuing contracts wave…

poem-warrior weary
(I was just called a “Warrior Teacher Knitting Goddess” I think that might be my favourite compliment ever).I am weary War is exhausting work Protect democracy Fight one battle at a time under emotional and financial strain Ready to go the distance, and now they announce a truce, a treaty, an agreement. The evil despot smiles and claims a mutual victory With narrowed eyes I doubt. I have seen…

I am not a political person.
I voted conservative most of my life. I have never canvassed for a political party. I have never held any union position, including shop steward.
I believe in a ‘live and let live’ attitude about most things, but I have voted every year. I take my responsibility as a citizen very seriously. I try to be educated about my opinions.
After then Minister of Education…

Jimmie Johnson:
As a senior, who has had only a $100 a raise in my private sector pension plan since 1994, I would think $45 an hour for teachers is plenty. Probably too much. My thought would be to exempt people over 65 from paying school taxes within their property tax. We cannot afford to pay these Hollywood lifestyles wages for teachers and other public sector employees. On energy now we are paying tax on tax. How much more can people pay these public sector workers and still keep our economy growing? I think we are over the limit now.

Mighty rearranger:
If they are so committed to the cause why don't I see them on the picket line outside of working hours. Teachers= Overpaid and Over entitled! Go out into the real world where the rest of use exist. Away from your safe government jobs with fat pensions and fat wages then see how hard life really is!
From: B.C. teachers will picket summer school if no contract deal by June 30
kellyf60:
why don't both sides take a break, let the school year finish without disruption, and then negotiate over the summer?
Claire Clarity:
@kellyf60 You know why. The teacher orchestrated this strike to provide the biggest hassle for parents, children and the taxpayers. It's only the truly ignorant that support their demands. The teachers are extorting the public prior to them spending their summer holidays on the beach. The last thing they will do is strike during their holidays. It just goes to show where their priorities are. More money, more holidays, more benefits, more pensions ... it's shameful.

R C A:
Teachers are really striking against the BC Public -- you and me. So let's go on strike against the teachers: 1. Go to the teachers' parking lots and take down license numbers. 2. Distribute those widely. 3. Refuse to sell them gas. 4. Refuse to renew their auto insurance Perhaps they will finally understand who they are harming.
