#instagram migration

The increase in AI with posts and scrubbing, social media websites spiralling, mass migration...it's definitely an uncertain time.

Even Instagram, which used to be my primary social media, is starting to pull some questionable moves lately that are making me start to doubt myself (like random mandatory ad stops during scrolling).

I wanted to try sharing my art on a different platform to see how it impacts my process. I don't sell anything, art is just my hobby. But I feel like instagram creates a frustrating cycle of focusing on social media more than actually making art.

I'm excited that tumblr is more image and blogging forward, rather than video first.

I experiment with all kinds of mediums including acrylic, watercolour, gouche, and printmaking. I will draw with anything and everything.

I love Instagram as a means of sharing my pictures with my friends and family, but it sucks for sharing art, at least the way I want to share mine. First of all, I can’t upload anything from the web version and there is no app for computers, only mobile. Second, it crops most of my drawings, specially if they are long. Because I have to save the file from my computer to my phone to upload, the quality is crappppp. It is so very slow and painful to write captions and hashtags. And it is great to make a gallery, but you can’t reblog nor interact with other artists in the same way. I’ll keep it up, but I’ll stay in Tumblr as well for the time being, if it is not impossible. Not to be dramatic, but my own internet server blocks my actual Tumblr page for “pornographic content” LOL I found out yesterday I can’t access my own blog.

This will be a help to those who are quitting Instagram, and don't want to leave anything behind.

 How to migrate your data

The first step that you will need to do is to find software that can help you to migrate your data from Instagram to DropBox, and then download it to your computer. Once the download has been completed, you will need to be able to open the software. Before you begin transferring your files, you will need to be sure that your data is secured, and that all of the information is available in a file which can be opened by DropBox. If you don't have a synchronised data file, it could be rejected by its intended recipient, and will be returned to Instagram.
