🐍oh my god—-yes jealous!emma triumphs. Now I have got one more headcanon request…so Emma is insane with her training right, but other girl shadowhunter are into way more girly stuff too and she’s just not. So one day, a girl comes to the institute, and starts not necessarily talking trash, but making Emma second guess herself, (she also flirts with Jules way too much) So how does insecure!emma play out and Julian’s reaction? This seems tougher so I want to hear ALL about it
I mean, Emma is pretty feminine herself and wears a lot of dresses and is into thrift shopping in the books but she's much more relaxed with her appearance. Her hair is always in a ponytail, she doesn't mind sitting in the sand to play with Tavvy while wearing a nice dress
And the appearance of another girl doesn't initially bother her. In fact, when Lavina Trueblood appeared at the institute, she was delighted and welcoming. Just as she had been with Cristina's arrival.
The girl that steps out honestly looked like she stepped out of a fairytale. Her hair is so blonde, it's nearly silver. Fine-boned and delicate looking with no evidence of scars from runes other than the voyance rune on her hand.
She walks right past Emma without even saying a word but winks at Julian as she passes. Emma is naturally a little stunned but just brushes it off.
She can hear Lavina talking about her on the phone that night: about how unattractive and covered with scars she is, that girls shouldn't be so strong, how her cheekbones are too wide and that she's in desperate need of a new hairstyle and seemingly has never heard of makeup
What really gets to her is when Lavina laughs and asks how a guy as hot as Julian isn't dating someone on his level.
Emma is outraged but when she's in the bathroom that night, she thinks of all that was said.
The scars that Emma was so proud of, the ones that marked shadowhunter culture, the ones that Julian had kissed frequently and told her that they were beautiful and the slim cording of muscles that came from training
The hair she kept tied back for the sake of being practical
She swallowed back a wave of nausea as she pulled a bathrobe on.
Julian is laying on her bed in his nightclothes and cocks an eyebrow up at her. She just says goodnight and turns off the light
The next day she's up before Julian is and is going all out.
Her hair is down, she's in a pretty pink dress and the sleeves cover the scars on her arms, and worst of all; she's wearing makeup.
Not that she didn't before but she usually stuck to lipgloss and mascara then.
This time, she's all decked out with eyeshadow, foundation, fake lashes. All of it.
Julian stares at her as she is coming out of the bathroom and frowns, but compliments her regardless.
Lavina rolls her eyes the second she sees Emma but brightens when she sees Julian.
She's not as touchy feely as the last girl had been, but she shows a LOT of her body in a crop top and daisy dukes which is somehow worse.
She leans forward several times to give either a show of her cleavage or her ass until Julian, firmly asks: Can you please back the fuck up so that my girlfriend can sit down?
He's guessed the change in Emma and boy is he mad.
He pulls Emma to their bathroom after lunch and sits her down on the toilet and she's stubbornly not looking at him as he ties her hair back and snatches her makeup wipes and starts wiping off her makeup with gentle strokes until its his Emma looking back up at him once again.
She doesn't say a word the entire time but he does:
Emma, darling, you are so beautiful. You never need to pretend to be a person you aren't.
"But my cheekbones are too wide and my scars...."
He takes her face in his hands and gives her a stern look full of loving exasperation. "Emma Cordelia Carstairs, every one of those scars just add to how beautiful you are. I wouldn't change a thing about you, so why would you change yourself? There is nothing ugly about you, inside or out. You shine so bright, that everyone else pales standing next to you"
One by one he talks her through her insecurities until he's got her smiling and teasing him for being a sap.
An hour later, he walks up to Lavina and tells her flat out that she needs to go because she's rude and frankly, nobody wants her there. Aline and Helen agree with him and out she goes.
