number 3 and 16
3. My muse gives a speech before a battle.
She looked over to her companions, knowing well what the end of that battle would signify. It was the end of the road. She might not be able to say what she had in mind then, so she stopped to say it right that moment. She turned around, but much to their surprise, she didn’t assume that usual imposing stance of hers, she didn’t lock her hands behind her back. She was nervous, visibly so, and for once she didn’t try to hide it.
“I... This won’t take long. You know what we’re about to do. What we’re about to face. That’s what you all joined for. Well, not exactly, you didn’t exactly say that you joined to fight off a Magister corrupted by his own hubris that then opened a giant green asshole in the sky, but you signed up to eliminate what threatened Thedas. And that’s him. This is it. I don’t know if we’ll survive to see the end of it, but...” She rolled her shoulders and changed her course of thought, and right then, they saw the one that was in shackles in Haven, as hesitant as she was then, without a sense of her own importance. She sighed.
“I didn’t choose this. My role was forced onto me and believe me, if I could, I would have turned it down, but you made your choice. Whether you joined for gold, for glory, or simply because you wanted to help, you’re here out of your own volition, and despite our multiple disagreements, you stayed. And even if Thedas doesn’t remember your contribution, I will. To me, you’re heroes.” She pointed at the direction they were travelling to. “And he needs to die. So let’s make like heroes and tear him down. It’s time to end this.”
16. A song I associate with my muse while fighting.
(Wow this one is difficult, because I rarely try to associate music to my muses)
I’ll try to find one now, by thinking of Noria’s drive for fighting. Fighting is a means to survival, not a means to overwhelm or conquer. She fights, first and foremost, for herself, so that she will stay alive. She fights when she knows she can’t not fight and it feels bitter. The end of a fight brings her relief and even though sometimes she is a bit hyped, because well, if it’s a dragon fighting you and you beat it, wouldn’t you be hyped?
Next part, when she fights, she’s focused. She keeps thinking the next moves, hers and her enemies’ and she looks for control in the battlefield. It’s difficult to catch her off guard, she thinks very fast.
So, let’s combine the two and come up with a song. It could have a dark tone to it, quite a beat, maybe a few changes of pace, because that happens in a battle, but not frantic melody, not many ups and downs. And of course, let’s make it a bit badass. We want guitars.
