Welcome to the Hinterwelt Colony!

As mentioned in your verbal briefing, you have been brought here due to a temporal energy abnormality dwelling inside of you. To remain in your universe would be a danger to both yourself and your home. For this reason, we have taken you into our energy-locked colony to ensure the safety of everyone, including yourself. 

Dorm housing and standard meals are included, free of charge, as payment for the data we will gather during your stay with us.  Additional amenities may be purchased with the horned dollar-- a credit system earned by those working within the city.  Horned dollars are also paid to those who participate in our Wild Energy Extraction Duties, as “Gardeners.”  Please note that Gard Duty is handled independently of city employment; they do not interfere with one another, should you choose to pursue both.

Our Wild Energy Extraction Duties seek out and protect all universes from energy abnormalities, preventing galactic meltdowns.  Your involvement, while optional, is vital to our goals of intergalactic stability.  Plus, it provides the opportunity to see your home, friends, and family again!  Just remember, we can only keep you there for so long before we pull you back.  We wouldn’t want to hurt anyone, after all. :)

Though the Hinterwelt colony wasn’t exactly a one-to-one replica of his hometown, Kazami found that, on occasion, the patchwork city had a strange way of intersecting with it.  And, while he certainly had been looking for model kits within its slab-themed crafts shop, well… He didn’t exactly expect to find any, let alone a dusty-looking Gouf sandwiched between two seemingly-British World War II-era cruiser tanks.  It certainly was no Zaku, but Kazami was over the moon—literally and figuratively. Clutching the late 80’s time capsule, as though it would disappear at any moment, he corralled an armful of painting supplies, marched up to the register, and managed to spend nearly the rest of his month’s allowance.  Not that it mattered; payday was tomorrow.

The walk home—to his new home—seemed to stretch on for hours.  The streets seemed to blur in a haze of loose familiarity and, slowly, the feeling grew that maybe, just maybe… Kazami had gotten lost?  He whisked away the thought immediately; even in the direst of circumstances, his sense of direction had always steered him right!  Yet, deep down, he knew the backroads of the metallic-suburban amalgam had yet to settle into his muscle memory. His surroundings were a mystery to him, whether he liked it or not.  Panic began to set in.  What if… he never made it back? Frantically, Kazami spun around looking for any hint of his dorm.

His expression dropped in exasperation as he realized he was standing directly in front of its entrance. “At least… nobody saw that.” He chuckled in embarrassment, tugging his bags through the front door.   Rummaging through their contents, Kazami began to take stock of his few available paints; one camel yellow, two racing blue, one lavender, one black, and two white.  

“Hmm…” he pondered, staring at the small assortment.  Most of them couldn’t serve as touchup paint for his Justice Knight, that much was certain.  However, the lack of a justice-imbued palette wasn’t the issue.  Picking up one of the containers, he re-read the name ‘Racing Blue.’ Having only used blues for highlights, the term ‘Racing’ meant nothing to him.  “It can’t be much different, can it?”  Curiosity piqued, Kazami twisted the bottle’s cap to take a closer look…

When it came to his physique, the only thing Haruka really had to him was height. Standing at a full one meter eighty-two centimetres, he was generally well above the average Japanese male, and one might imagine that he had physical prowess behind that height as well. He did not. Haruka was about as scrawny as a boy could be, the pale skin only just sticking to his bones despite his dietary intake being well above average as well, and when it came to muscles it would be a flattery to say he had many. Of course he had a reason for his physical condition as he simply was not capable of working out without getting a heart attack, but that was another matter.

The only exercise the adolescent boy actually performed was his daily walks, often going in for checkups at the hospital, but otherwise taking in the scenery around him by walking a few blocks before he got too tired to proceed and had to head back. Some days he couldn’t even find it in himself to leave his bed. Moving was hard when you had spent two whole years stuck in a bed unable to even move, even if said bed was inside a parallel dimension where he wasn’t even sure how time passed had his senses not been connected to the outside world.

Today Haruka had felt particularly good and walked all the way to the inner city before he had felt his stamina start to deplete. Finding a cafe seemed to be the optimal way to spend his time, and just in time, for as he had ordered and was on his way to find a table, he could feel his legs give out under him. “Waah!” he yelped as he stumbled into one of the small tables, and out of the corner of his eyes, he could see a cup tipping over. With sudden movements his hand shot out to try and catch it, but as he was already in the middle of falling, instead of catching the cup, he misjudged the distance and pushed it further forward, straight upon the guy whom the table momentarily belonged to.
