Found this in Trujillo, northern Peru, but it is also common in Ecuador. You eat the white pulp around the seed, and this is supposed to be sweet. The one we tried had only a hint of sweetness. Guaba has a lot of nutrients and apparently has medicinal properties. I was mostly intrigued by its size and shape. The fruit comes from the Inga tree; the pod is very thick.
