Archaeology only focuses on the human past (with some human evolution, but that’s complex). A lot of people think we study dinosaurs, but that’s paleontologists, which you’d think more people would know given the inexplicable popularity of “Friends”.
The human past is so much more interesting! You get to learn about your own kind! And get a much better understanding of where we’re coming from culturally! It’s honestly amazing!
And you can still look at animals, I did for my dissertation after all! But it’s related to how humans interact with their environment! Stuff like industrialisation, the neolithic revolution, the advent of large-scale agriculture (aka the agricultural revolution), hunting, secondary uses of animals, the beginnings of sedentism, the growth of cities!

Depending on what you’re doing they can be super repetitive,it’s socially acceptable to do in public spaces, and people think you’re cool or magic, especially little kids. One time I was knitting on the train and this 4 year old was staring at me like it was the best thing she’d ever seen
