Hi. This is something I’ve been curious about for awhile, but can’t really get a satisfactory answer for.
Does massive blood loss increase the risk of wound infection?
Maybe? Honestly it depends on whether the blood was later replaced. Blood carries oxygen, which wounds need to heal. If wounds don't get enough oxygen, they don't heal well. So less blood or lower blood pressure to the area of the wound means slower healing and higher possibility of infection. But if you replaced the blood and had no other reason for the area of the wound not getting enough oxygen, the risk of infection would stay within normal limits.
