Seriously, this idea that I am propagating oppression by not defending those being oppressed is, at its heart, quite logical. I should absolutely fight against the racism(/whatever else I'm tired of using specific terminology). But take that same argument, and put it in the perspective of a webcomic-game-parody-thing. When you take it down to such an absurd level, this whole argument falls apart. I'm all for social justice to an extent. I I quite dislike political correctness most of the time. It's ridiculous That's just me. I focus on the individual rights of people rather than group. Beside the point. Here's the thing. There's this whole debate about including different representations in Homestuck. EVERY KIND of representation. Let's break this down. Hussie has said the kids are aracial, canonically. That's fine. They've been depicted as such in the comics. Obviously there has been more depiction of them as Caucasian in fanart. Again, there isn't a problem. There have been depictions of the kids as every other thing under the sun as well. I can't even draw a line on what "everything" defines. Also fine. Let's move on. I don't agree with how several fans have reacted to what seems to them the sudden appearance of race in the HS kids in this new merchandise. It is inherently racist. But the idea that some form of social injustice is being promoted because there hasn't been a surge of diverse fanart? Not so fine. I do, indeed, maintain headcanon that the majority—if not all—of the kids are Caucasian. I suppose. I never really considered their race as a thing. They just existed in my head as I pictured them. It DOES NOT bother me seeing them with different skin tones. Beyond that, there should be no actual debate. It feels to me like this issue concerning the redesign of the cards is pandering. I don't believe there will be some sort of stigma held against the artist who decline, but unless an artist just legitimately feels that their new depiction is how it should have been all along, for their own reasons, then there is no sense in change. An artist's interpretation is their own; they can depict their children or their trolls however they want.

This is about the individual, not making everyone feel accepted. It isn't the job of a webcomic or an artist unless they've made it so. And really, this extends to all forms of representation and all forms of art. Transgender, weight, age, sexuality, cultural integrity? I don't care. It's irrelevant if someone is offended. It's not their work. That is why political correctness matters so very little. It's all about the individual and their personal rights. Someone has just as much right to say something concerning a topic as another does to rebuke or refute. It isn't about pleasing people, it's about doing what you personally want. If someone wants to be 100% politically correct, however complicated such a thing may be, have at it as well. It becomes more oppressive trying to make sure everything is properly represented than if everyone took consideration for their personal representation. There should be no reason that someone should concern themselves with a label, nor should observers feel the need to give them a label. That they do, however, is their own prerogative.

But all of that is beside the point. Let's observe the Homestuck children. The Alpha kids are clones of themselves. The Beta kids are combinations of the Alpha kids. None of these groups of kids has biological parents or an origin for their DNA. They are paradoxes in and of themselves. Logically, they have no race at all. Because their is nothing to have passed on racial DNA. Therefore, no race deserves representation. Anyone. None of them are anything because for all intents and purposes their DNA does not exist. And yet it does. Because this is a comic. This race debate is illogical and falls apart the deeper and more seriously you try and consider it. Therefore, they quite literally are a blank slate. When it comes to social justice, it doesn't matter what the situation is; an extremist can find a problem with any aspect (look at Kankri, which is exactly what he is a parody of). If more race were depicted officially, there would be debate that they were represented inappropriately. If they were made more appropriate, it would be argued they were a racial caricature. Consider Tavros, and the shitstorm that arose from his wheelchair depiction. The impaired and their proponents were not pleased. There is no winning this debate. Political correctness is a step away from actual progress. An artist can depict them whatever way they choose, including Hussie if he suddenly wanted to admit they were all somehow linked to the Navajo. I just hope that way is the way they want to choose. tl;dr Get over yourselves. People will depict things how they want. Political correctness is absurd. There's no winning. It's like an inverse of social injustice. Overbearing. This is ridiculous. This is a webcomic. It's not their job to make picture perfect representation.
