The Golden Temple. Nestled in the heart of the old town of Amristar is the most revered gurudwara for Sikhs. It is also the most visited place in the world. This is Harmandir Sahib or Darbar Sahib, but better known as the Golden Temple. The temple was founded by the fourth guru of Sikhs, Shri Guru Ram Das in 1577. However, construction of the temple only began in 1581 and completed in 1589. Its architecture reflects different styles that were prevalent in India at that time, including hand-painted mosaics and patterns found in Mughal and Rajput architecture. What does stand out though is the dome on top of the temple, which is made of pure gold. The main temple building is surrounded by a lake known as Amrit Sarovar or a 'pool of holy nectar'. The Golden Temple is open to everybody, irrespective of your religious faith. More than 35% of visitors and pilgrims who visit the temple are not Sikhs themselves. On a side note, the temple also has the largest community kitchen in the world, feeding an average of 100,000 people every day. _________________________________________ @nofixedaddrs #nofixedaddrs _________________________________________ Incredible India 🇮🇳 #IncredibleIndia #punjabtourism #IndiaBeginsHere _________________________________________ ………. ……... …….. ……. …… ….. …. … .. . #goldentemple #amritsar #india #punjab #waheguru #sikh #amritsardiaries #sikhism #punjabi #indianphotography #photographers_of_india #indiatravel #indiatravelgram #indiaclicks #indiapictures #indiatraveldiaries #indiatraveller #indiatravelling #storiesofindia #indiatravelblogger #indiatravelsquad #indiatravellers #indiatravellgram #indianshutterbugs #indiatraveljournal #travelersofindia (at Golden Temple) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRTVPtrsf7p/?utm_medium=tumblr
