Shinique Smithās āMother Clara Haleās Gardenā (2013) at the Mother Clara Hale Bus Depot, is inspired by the loving and generous nature of Mother Clara Hale, who for more than 50 years, cared for children in need and helped transform their lives. Smith collected clothing, fabric and inspiration from childrenās drawings from the Central Harlem community to create her original artwork, which was transformed into a monumental mosaic installation by Mosaika Art & Design. Using large scale painterly gestures, Smith weaves together everyday materials with an awareness for responsible consumption in her new exhibition āIndelible Marksā now on view at the UBS Art Gallery.
