Digital Rhetorical and Rhetoric
The last week was filled with googling what is considered a rhetorical analysis on digital rhetoric. While the last few days I have still tried to come to a final say on 1 definition for Rhetoric not to mention digital rhetoric. Thats the problem, i mean really when the Dean asks a room full of graduate students what the definition of Rhetoric is and everyone kind of just sits and stares at eachother you seem to get a bit worried.Â
While we can google and find just about anything on Rhetoric there really is no certain definition for it and not to mention 1 that is used and studied by many. The definition states on Google that the definition for Rhetoric is,
 “ the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the use of figures of speech and other compositional techniques. ”Â
While the definition for Digital Rhetoric is, “ Digital rhetoric is the art of informing, persuading, and inspiring action in an audience through media, and it is an advancing form of communication composed, created, and distributed through multimedia. ... The meaning of rhetoric has changed over time, developing with changes in technologies. ”
So you may think about what i have written and wondered why that is even important and thats fair enough however, the worth of knowing what we have been studying for the past 2 years in graduates school is pretty important because i never knew I did not know the answers and neither did my peers. While our dean sat and waited for us to try to explain to eachother what rhetoric was, we seemed to drift off and get more lost, lost in our own field, our own career field! When we asked what was rhetoric to him he said, “i still dont know and cant give you a for sure answer, i can tell you what i think it is but that is just my own definition. But i wont.” Why lie i was a bit lost when he said he wouldnt tell us, he simply said he couldnt because once a student gets an answer they stop thinking. Moral of my post and venting, could someone enlighten me!!!!
