Title: The One with the Improvident Purchase
The gang is gathered around their usual couch. ROSS is reading a book, RACHEL is flipping through a fashion magazine, JOEY is munching on a muffin, CHANDLER is sipping coffee, MONICA is organizing sugar packets, and PHOEBE is strumming her guitar.
JOEY: (mouth full) Guys, you won’t believe what I just bought!
CHANDLER: (sarcastically) Let me guess, a lifetime supply of sandwiches?
JOEY: (excitedly) No, even better! I bought… a jet ski!
Everyone stops what they’re doing and stares at Joey.
MONICA: A jet ski? Joey, you live in an apartment in New York City. Where are you going to use a jet ski?
JOEY: (confidently) In the Hudson River, of course!
RACHEL: (laughing) Joey, the Hudson River is not exactly the Caribbean.
ROSS: Plus, you do realize you need a trailer to transport it, right?
JOEY: (pauses, thinking) Oh… I thought I could just ride it down the street.
Everyone bursts into laughter.
PHOEBE: (singing) Joey’s got a jet ski, but no place to go, he’s gonna ride it down Broadway, and put on a show!
CHANDLER: (mocking) Next on the news: Man arrested for attempting to jet ski through Times Square.
JOEY: (defensive) Hey, it was a great deal! And besides, I can always sell it if I need to.
MONICA: (smirking) Like that time you tried to sell your encyclopedias?
JOEY: (proudly) Hey, I sold one!
ROSS: (shaking his head) Joey, that’s the definition of improvident. You really need to think these things through.
JOEY: (shrugging) Well, at least I have a jet ski. What do you guys have?
CHANDLER: (deadpan) A savings account.
The gang laughs again as Joey looks around, realizing his impulsive purchase might not have been the best idea.
JOEY: (sighs) Okay, maybe I should have thought this through a little more.
PHOEBE: (cheerfully) Don’t worry, Joey. If you ever need to get rid of it, I know a guy who collects jet skis. He lives in a van down by the river!
Everyone laughs as the scene fades out.
