And so they grew close, Clara warning her away from Jimmy Stone because no guy that old pays attention to someone Rose's age without ulterior motives. Rose encouraging her to go and get her teaching degree.

Then Rose went missing.

Clara helped Jackie and Mickey hang up the missing posters, fought some people who tried to say that Mickey had done something because he would not.

She stayed with Jackie through the long months, as Rose's birthday came and went. As the time she'd been missing came up on a year and then it passed. A year. Rose had been missing for a year and Clara didn't believe it.

But then she was there, walking into the flat like nothing was wrong. Saying how she'd been with Shareen when Clara knew for a fact that Rose hadn't been there. And then the strange man came charging into the house talking about 12 months not 12 hours and Jackie had slapped him.

None of that mattered to Clara. Because as she looked at Rose suddenly it felt like she was alive again, as though this past year she'd merely been living as a ghost. And so when everything had calmed down Clara had surged forwards and enveloped Rose in a hug.
