"Why, Elizabeth, I didn't expect you to call today!" Roy greeted before the other end of the phone line had even gotten to speak.
"Um, actually, sir, I haven't connected you through yet," Kain meekly replied.
Roy stifled a disgruntled groan as he rested his head in his free hand, using a couple of fingers to massage his temple.
Jean let out a snicker as he placed a new report about Barry the Chopper's trial on Roy's desk, smoke curling from the cigarette hanging at the corner of his mouth. "Missing a certain someone, sir?"
"Elizabeth is a one of a kind woman," Roy replied, toe tapping the floor as he glanced at the report. "Finally caught him, eh?"
"Not without a fight," Jean snickered, putting his cigarette out in the ashtray on the colonel's desk.
"Uh, Mustang, sir? You've got another call incoming. Do you want to take it while I patch through, uh, Elizabeth?" Kain questioned, crackling static echoing down the phone while Roy mulled it over.
"Fine."
"Hey there, Roy! Guess what?!" Maes' voice almost instantly yelled down the line, not even waiting for a response before continuing. "Gracia's pregnant! We're having a baby! I hope it's a girl, I want to spoil her rotten! Although, I'd probably spoil the cute little thing rotten no matter what they end up being-"
"Calm down, Maes," Roy said, stifling a laugh at his friend's excitement. "I'm glad you're having a baby."
"Hughes is having a baby?" Jean cheered, opening up a new packet of cigarettes and taking one out. "I'll smoke to that - hey, colonel, gimme a light would you?"
Roy rolled his eyes but snapped his fingers anyway, letting a small flame hover over his fingers for the lieutenant to use. "Look, Maes, I'm happy for you, but right now I'm waiting to talk to a special lady so do you mind hanging up?"
"You finally have a lady love?! Oh gods, Roy, you gotta call me back after, I want to hear all about her!" Maes insisted, excitement bleeding through to Roy despite knowing that 'Elizabeth' was a cover they'd come up with. "Have a great time, Roy."
"I will," Roy laughed, waiting as the phone then let out a long time when Maes hung up.
Another sharper tone rung out briefly before Riza's voice sprung up instead, a smile growing on Roy's face at the sound of it.
"Hello, Elizabeth's Florist, how can we help you?"

would Roy sleep in his suit. If not, what would his jammies be?
What would Riza wear? Another turtleneck to hide the burn marks & tattoos? Or some special jammies with her hair down? Or in a ponytail...?
Roy has a 50,000 cenz silk pajama set with his initials embroidered on the breast pocket of the shirt. I think that while his apartment is very plain, cheap, boring and has literally nothing in it, his closet is quite the opposite.
Riza I think sleeps in a tank top (or camisole depending on her mood) and shorts. She's told all her friends not to bother her at night (which a certain colonel occasionally "forgets") and if someone snuck in she could kill them with the gun under her pillow, so she's not worried about the tattoo being discovered. She'd sleep with her hair down so there's no tension that could potentially cause headaches later.
Maybe itâs the way he grew up or maybe itâs my wishful thinking butâŚ
Roy Mustang gives me such Girl Dad vibes.
Obviously, I think heâd love his son but I feel like⌠heâd just love having a daughter.
I can see him doting on her. I can see her being the light of his life. I can see him providing pretty much anything she asks for⌠Heâd make time to do her hair every morning and heâd happily sit and watch as she shows off her new outfitsâŚ

Prelude in J Major
âYou seem to be in a very good mood this morning.â
Jean stops whistling, setting down the soapy plate in his hand and turning off the faucet to look at his wife. âWhat?â
She doesnât look up, focused as she is on her current task of sweeping the kitchen floor. âIâm fairly certain it has nothing to do with me, so whatâs up?â
He grins. âWhat are you talking about Becks? You always put me in a good mood.â He reaches out with two soapy and dripping wet hands in an attempt to hug her and she yelps when she notices, jumping back and holding up her broom in defense.
âDonât you dare touch me with those hands, Jean Havoc!â She screeches, waving the broom threateninglyâbut the quirk at the corner of her mouth betrays her. He chuckles as he turns his attention back to the sink, picking up the sponge to scrub at the dish he had set down earlier.
âCâmon, arenât you at least a little excited Edâs son is coming to stay with us?â He says over his shoulder.
She laughs. âClearly not as excited as you,â she says as she resumes sweeping. âIâd be a little more excited if we didnât have all this cleaning to do.â
To be honest, he isnât thrilled about the cleaning, eitherâbut the prospect of having one of the Elric kids over far outweighs the chore of tidying up the house. Â Jean loves kids. If it werenât for the fact his time as a paraplegic had left him and Becky unable to have any of their own, heâs sure they wouldâve had two. Three, maybe. Even more if his wife were up for it. But sheâs never been much of the maternal type.
âWhat if it was Momo staying over, hmm?â He asks, though he already knows her response.
She sighs, smiling. âOkay, Jean, Roy and Rizaâs daughter is an actual angel, though.â
He canât deny thatâthey both dote on the only child of their Fuhrer and First Lady. All of Team Mustang does. Itâs a good thing Hawkeye is as disciplined as ever because their daughter would have otherwise become an exceedingly spoiled child.
Momo is quite possibly the most angelic child he has ever known and is, perhaps, the sole reason Rebecca had considered the notion of adopting kids.
She had brought it up one night after they had had dinner at the Fuhrerâs estate. Momo had been maybe six or seven at the time and had spent the majority of the evening glued to âAunt Beccaâsâ side, small hand clinging to his wifeâs as she listened to her talk about what eastern Amestris was like. Evidently the girlâs actions had entirely melted her heartâJean had never seen his wife so flustered by someone so small.
âSheâs so cute, Jean!â she had squealed, arms flailing before she brought her hands up and pressed them against her cheeks. âI want one, too!â
So they had discussed it, but ultimately resolved to stick with being good godparents to Momo. They had gotten used to it being just the two of them after all. And given how much extra time not having kids left for them to attend to...other thingsâwell, he wasnât complaining about the arrangement.
Still, an opportunity like hosting one of the Elric kids was something to look forward to.
âIâm sure Denkiâs a good kid, too,â he says, turning off the faucet as he grabs a towel to dry off the newly washed dishes. âHe doesnât have Edwardâs infamous temper, at least.â
Thatâs what he says, but itâs been a few years since theyâve seen the Elric children so who knows how much has changed. Denki Elric is hardly a kid anymoreâheâs older than Ed and Al had been when they had made the trek up to Central. But in Jeanâs mind, even Edward and Alphonse are still kids, despite the fact theyâve both been married and had children of their own for quite some time now.
âYeah, yeah, youâre probably right,â she responds, dumping the contents of the dustpan into the trash. She disappears into their room and returns wearing a fresh outfit, hair brushed back and makeup lightly done. He stares a moment too longâwhile he loves his wife no matter how she looks, he canât deny that small moments like these remind him just how beautiful she is and how lucky he is to have her.
âIâm going to head to the market to pick up some more groceries,â she says, smiling up at him as she slips on her shoes. âYou consume a buttload of food on your own and with Denki here I canât imagine how much two of you can eat.â
âSounds good,â he says, walking over to her to wrap his (now dry) hands around her waist, placing a peck on her cheek. âSee you in a bit.â
She turns to leave but suddenly stops, as if she remembered something.
âOh, and Jean?â
âYeah?â
âI do hope youâre planning to wipe up all the water you dripped onto the kitchen floor.â
Part 2 will be up on Tumblr in a bit. The entirety of this fic is up on AO3Â already if youâd prefer not to wait, though. Thanks for reading!

This was delightful!!! I do love their friendship. Thank you for the prompt.
Riza opened the door to the office. She suppressed a yawn; she should never have left the Colonel convince her to go out on a weekday. At least she didnât have the pounding headache that the rest of the men were likely to have. She flicked on the lights to the office.
âUrgh.â
A small frown on her face, she looked around the office and found the source of the noise. Havoc was sprawled over his desk, his face buried in his arms.
âTurn it off!â
She swallowed a laugh. âHavoc, what the hell are you doing here in the dark?â
âThe office was closer, and I figured I wasnât going to get to work otherwise.â
Rizaâs eyes widened. âHavoc, are you still drunk?â
He opened one bloodshot eye and closed it again.
âProbably,â he mumbled. âCan you please turn off the light?â
âSorry, canât do - itâs too dark.â
Ignoring his moan, she took off her coat and hung it up on the coat rack. She sat down at her desk and began sorting through her in-tray.
After a few moments of working in silence, she glanced over again at Havoc. He had managed to open his eyes at least.
He turned towards her. âHow are you still standing?â
âI know my limits.â
âLimits are overrated.â
She lifted an eyebrow. âAre you sure?â
âI guess not.â
He sat up gingerly. Riza shook her head at the crumpled suit which had a dark, unidentifiable stain on the right breast pocket.
âYou look terrible.â
âTell me something I donât know.â
âI hope you brought your uniform to change into. You donât want to be wearing that when the Colonel comes in.â
âUh - no. I didnât think of that.â He shrugged his shoulders. âI was kind of drunk.â
She sighed. âI guess I could talk to Patricia in Requisitions about a uniform. She owes me a favour.â
âThanks Hawkeye, youâre the best.â
She picked up her phone.
âHi Lieutenant Hawkeye,â said the Operator. âWhere may I direct you?â
âPut me through to Requisitions, please.â She waited for the connecting tone and put her hand over the receiver. Havoc was still slouched in his chair. âAnd you should go and get some black coffee.â
Riza turned back to check her in-tray while she waited for Patricia to pick up. There was more work to do than she would like.
âHi Riza, what can I do for you?â
âIt appears Lieutenant Havoc has mislaid his uniform.â
Havoc started to splutter and Riza bit back a laugh.
âIs there something youâre not telling me?â
âHavoc will tell you everything when you drop it up to the office. And if you see Rebecca, you might bring her up with you.â
Eyes dancing with mirth, she turned back to Havoc, who was looking green.
âPlease donât vomit on the carpet.â
âFuck you-â He retched and fled through the office door, his hand over his mouth.
She followed him out into the hall. He ducked into the menâs restroom, where she could hear the continued sound of retching.
She sighed and knocked on the door. âYou okay in there?â
âNo-â
âIâll get you some water.â
She didnât wait for a response and hurried to the small kitchenette four doors down. Taking a glass from the cupboard, she filled it with water. She rushed back to the menâs room and pushed the door open.
Pale and clammy, Havoc was sitting on the floor of an open cubicle..
She pulled him upright away from the toilet bowl . âIt wouldnât do to fall asleep like that.â
âIâm not going to fall asleep,â he muttered. He squinted up at her. âYou shouldnât be in here. This is the menâs room.â
She rolled her eyes and handed him the glass of water. âDonât worry, Iâm not that squeamish. Iâve been to war; I donât think a menâs room is going to traumatise me.â
âIâm not worried about you,â he said, before he swallowed the contents of the glass. âIâm more worried about me if the Colonel finds you in here with me.â
âNext time youâre hungover, Iâm not going to hold your head out of the toilet, Iâm gonna let you drown.â She shook her head. âNow pull yourself together, Havoc, weâve got work to do.â
FMA AU Week Day 4 Prompt L: Overused but Well Loved
Words: 1998
This time itâs a modern AU. Based on some lovely art by @ignicule with their permission, ofc. Warnings for strong language from Edward.
It should also be noted that I do not support Roy/Winry in anyway; they are messing with Ed and in this, Roy loves Winry like a daughter.
Please donât tag as Roywin
âI canât believe I trusted him with her. I. Cannot. Believe that I trusted him. What was I thinking? I should have called Al home. What was I thinking?â
Riza sighed silently to herself, glancing to her companion who clutched nervously to his phone. She and Ed were away on a mission, too far from Resembool or Central to return quickly should anything arise. She was a little nervous too; Roy had a knack for getting himself into trouble when she wasnât around, but he was also a grown man who could take care of himself and those around him. Ed had been aware of that when he asked Roy to check on his heavily pregnant wife who was taking up a hotel room in Central. Alphonse was away in Xing with his wife Mei visiting her family, otherwise Winry would have stayed in Resembool with him. Riza wished that Ed would remember why he had trusted Roy to keep her safe and well taken care of in the first place.
Roy absolutely adored Winry, after all, and would do just about anything for her, even more so now that she was with an unborn child. Riza wouldnât be surprised when she got home if she found out that Winry ended up staying in their guest room, or Roy spent all day in her hotel room.
âHeâs going to fuck up. Heâs going to fuck up royally, and Iâm going to lose my child. And probably her. ...Thatâs it, Iâm call--â
Riza strode over and plucked Edâs phone right from his hands, where he had been staring at the still phone app for over a quarter of an hour. He protested and flipped onto his back on his bed, just in time to see her pocket it. âEdward. Winry still has two months to go. Winry can take care of herself. Roy is a responsible adult who knows how to take care of a pregnant woman.â His sister had gotten pregnant a little over a year ago, and he had Googled just about everything he had needed to know even though he obviously wasnât the father, and had stayed with her the last half of her pregnancy. The baby had been born happy and healthy. Not to say that was Royâs doing at all, but at least his doting hadnât harmed his new niece in the least. âTheyâre going to be fine. If you want to ensure that the baby will be fine, then focus on the mission so we can get home as soon as possible. Alright?â
Ed stared at her with wide, stricken eyes like he thought he had been betrayed. âBut heâs useless!â
âOnly on rainy days, and the forecast called for sun today. At least take a break from your phone. If Roy texts me that anything goes wrong, Iâll tell you immediately. Please take a look at the case files.â
Ed ground his teeth, waited for a second to see if he could wait her out, then deflated. â...Fine. But as soon as they call, you tell me!â
âIf they call, Iâll tell you.â
Ed grouched for a moment and stormed over to the table, yanking out the chair and dropping into it like a brooding child. Riza laughed to herself and shook her head; though it had been over five years since Ed had gotten Alâs body back, sometimes she could still see the same sullen child she had come to love. A small part of her hoped that part of him would never grow up. She took a seat on her bed (she and Ed had agreed that sharing a room would be easier and would pose no problem) and tucked into her own case file, hoping for some clues.
After a small amount of time, both phones in her pocket buzzed. Curious, and a little nervous, she pulled out her phone. Roy was a responsible adult, no way he had let something happen to Winry.
She rolled her eyes, a small smile drifting over her face. A group chat, from Winry, sent to her, Roy, and Ed. And the picture, no doubt Ed wouldnât be terribly pleased with that, the jealous little thing he was.
âStay safe! We love you! See you when you get home!!â
âEd.âÂ
Ed shot up like a hunting dog, staring with wide eyes at her, clearly waiting for the moment she called for him. She rolled her eyes again, but pulled out his phone and stretched out the small distance to hand it to him.
âTake a look.â
He took the phone and opened it up without looking at the message. Slowly, his scowl darkened into something unholy, which made her smile. Oh how pleased Roy would be if he knew that he had caused a face like that only by taking a picture with Edâs wife. After a solid minute of scowling at the picture, Ed started typing back furiously.
The picture that Winry had sent was really just a picture of the two of them smiling, pressed close to one another. The background suggested they were at Graciaâs--the half of the wall painting she could see looked like the one above Graciaâs living room couch. Either Gracia or Elysia had probably taken the picture. Roy was holding Winry to his side, his shoulder behind hers a little, although Winry seemed no less enthusiastic to be with him. Their outer hands were curled together, forming a little heart between them. Winryâs grin was huge, showing off a tongue piercing that she and Roy had nearly had a spat over three years back. Royâs smile was soft and warm--though he seemed happy to pose for the picture with her, he had likely had to be connived into it.Â
It was a cute picture, one that made Riza smile if for no other reason than to see these two she thought of as family to get along so splendidly. She saved the photo and set it as her home screen just in time for Ed to send back, âGet away from my wife, you pervert.â
âOh Ed,â Riza thought, but didnât bother saying aloud. She waited to see what the two on the other end would say.
Their end was silent for five full minutes. Finally, when the chat pinged again, it was another picture. It was a selfie done by Winry, her arm extended forward. The selfie was staged in a bedroom, as the two of them seemed to be seated on a cushy bed, likely Graciaâs. Roy sat behind Winry, his legs drawn around her. His arms swam around her pregnant belly, and his chin was nestled on the crown of her head. He was making the same bedroom eyes he made at Riza when he was messing around. She could tell that he was joking around, and that Winry was as well, but would Ed see that? In a state of heightened agitation, probably not.
Winry was making a delighted face, but also was trying to pull off her best goofy-but-sexy face. She turned her face up to Roy only a little bit that it made her look like she was going to kiss him, her free arm curled up so she could stroke her fingertips on his jawline.
Those two were going to get themselves in huge trouble with Ed when they got home. Riza? She could let it slide this time. Really, Ed was kind of asking for it.
The picture was on their phones for nearly half a minute before Winry finally explained. Ed was silently fuming; Riza could practically see smoke spewing from his ears. She lifted her phone to snap a quick picture to send just to Roy, saying âLook at what you two are doing to him.â
Winryâs text was simple and only barely explained the picture. âoh yeah didnt you hear? Weâre eloping sorry boo ;) xoxoâ
Ooohhhhh no. Ed was definitely kicking Royâs ass when they got home.
Within seconds, Ed answered, âIâm kicking your ass if you dont get away from her!!!!â
Riza feared that theyâd send another picture, perhaps of them kissing, which she wouldnât be too happy about. Thankfully they both had the common sense not to respond with that. The text that followed was from Roy: âhow you feeling, Fullmetal?â
He was stirring the pot. Of course he was.
âHow am i FEELING?!?
Like youre gonna get an ass kicking is how im feeling!!!
And im not an alchemist anymore!!!â
âWith a temper like that, youll ALWAYS be Fullmetal, Fullmetal.â
Ed just about put a hand through the wall, and Riza just about choked trying to suppress a laugh. Ed shot her a look but he must not have seen her laugh, because he immediately turned back to his phone.
âAnd youâll always be a piece of shit, you piece of shit!â popped up on Rizaâs phone seconds later. Riza shook her head and looked down to her forgotten case file. Well. So much for getting closer to going home.
â:OOOOâ Winry texted immediately after. Royâs response was a simple, âcreative, Fullmetalâ, just as Winry continued with âIâM SO SORRY GENERAL OMFG EDWARDâ.
âDonât be, Iâm not.â
âThatâs no way to speak to your commanding officer.â Riza informed, then set her phone aside. Ed shot her a look that was half-betrayal, half-surprise, then turned away from her when she looked at her file.
â...
Yes maâamâ
The phones were silent for probably ten minutes, blessed silence, during which time Ed actually sat down and took a look at his files.
Her phone suddenly chirped with Royâs newest addition. âYou know, Ed...â was all it said, although the indicator said he wasnât quite done. Riza could feel in the pit of her stomach that whatever he would say, it would spur Edâs furious rage on further. Not that Royâs very existence didnât seem to do so most days.
âWhat.â Ed replied, and Winryâs addition was a nervous little â...â.
âYouâre stuck working all week, while I get to care for a beautiful young woman all alone.â
âGeneralâ Winry cut in, likely in the hopes of quelling her sure-to-be-raging husband.
âJust me...
And her...â
âTHATS IT IM COMING BACK HOME AND KICKING YOUR ASS MYSELF YOU FUCKIN CREEPâ Ed responded, jerking up out of his bed and toward his suitcase like he intended to pack up and head out.
âEd!â Riza squawked, hopping out of her seat and to his side. She cut him off from his suitcase and shoved him back, just as Winry replied, âOMG Ed itâs fine heâs just joking!!!â
âYour wife gave me permission to drop kick your ass to next year so be ready for that.â Ed snarked, crossing his arms. He dropped onto the bed, face souring at his phone.
Riza squeezed the bridge of her nose tiredly and held her hand out to Ed, who stared at her with suspicious, narrowed eyes.
â...What?âÂ
âGive me your phone.â
âWhat?! Why?!â
âBecause you have work to do, now give me your phone, go sit down, and work. You know Royâs only messing with you.â
Ed stared between her face and her hand, as if unable to believe that he, an adult, was about to be grounded from his own phone. But when Riza wiggled her fingers a little and did not back down, he realized that she was being completely serious. He scowled and slapped his phone into her hand, probably unnecessarily hard, and stormed to his case file. He dropped into the chair like a petulant teen and went about actually doing something useful.
Riza rolled her eyes and pocketed his phone.
âI most certainly did not,â she responded on her own phone, taking a seat beside her own case file. âBut keep it up, Roy Mustang, and I may just change my mind on that.â
To which Roy simply responded, âheh... okay okay. ...Love you?â. And Riza, if only to make him sweat a little, did not respond.
It would be hard for little Maes to explain his family to the other kids, Roy decided as he rocked his tiny son to sleep. Apart from his mom and dad, he had a plethora of aunts and uncles who were exclusively not related by blood. He had cousins, again, not related by blood. The only blood relatives this little boy had were a great grandfather, and a great aunt. But as little Maes sighed in his sleep, curling into his fatherâs chest, Roy decided it didnât matter if the other kids understood. Family is much more than blood.
