Okay I love music in media. Music changes a scene so much. Look at any movie with a Hans Zimmer song anywhere in the soundtrack. Music makes movies/shows what they are and when a director can play with music to make it impact a scene that much more, I am always impressed.
What Jacob Tierney is doing with music in this fucking show is making my brain short circuit.
The club scene with t.A.T.u. Where the lyrics line up with how the characters are feeling, the slow club version coming on during the most pivotal change in the scene. I got chills. And I listened to every version I could find of that song for a week after.
Using, arguably, one of the most beautifully haunting pieces of classical music during the scene where Ilya does his monologue. The Moonlight Sonata are you kidding me??? Starting off slow as Ilya feels out what he’s trying to say. Building and building until we feel the most powerful part of the song when he’s talking about his love for Svetlana and then his love for Shane. It makes it so powerful. It’s a song about challenge. It’s a song about grief. It’s one of my favorite scenes of the whole episode because we see how Shane feels in the moment. He has no idea what Ilya is saying but it doesn’t matter, he loves him, he’s listening to this very obvious display of emotion even if it’s not something he understands and THE MUSIC. I can’t even really put it into the words I want to put it into. I hope they win every award. I love this show so much. These actors are incredible, the music is incredible, the direction is incredible. I don’t think it could have ever been done better
