Agree/disagree: equitation riders should not be judged on how pretty their eq is, but instead on how effective it is. (I know not all judges go like this but so many in my area do so..)

I say disagree only because I believe equitation plays a part in effective riding. Most of the time, if a rider has rock solid equitation that looks pretty (all the time, not only in photos), they will also be an effective rider. If their legs are swinging all over the place, they still can be effective, but they would probably be even better if they controlled them. I think that if your position is really weak and far from textbook, it is unlikely you will be the most effective rider. Of course, textbook eq changes from discipline to discipline, eventers are rock solid but stay much closer to the saddle than eq riders do.
