so much for our music taste seeming normal, #11 is Holy Waterfall by Aesop Rock! we had this on repeat a lot while writing datd -- even though the fic's named after a different Aes song, this one's a lot better for writing to. it's also a song we hint at in several different places in the fic. it's also just like... a good song? a good song.

5. Rodrigues Flying Fox
Just look at it. Chungy, soft, round. 90cm wingspan. What more could you want???
4. Egyptian Fruit Bat
They're cute little guys!!! Look at that face,,,, Also the only bats I've seen up close irl! And the only fruit bats I've seen irl full stop. Visiting these guys at the zoo was probably the best day of my life. It was a free flying exhibit and it was fucking great. 60cm wingspan, so they're pretty small, but not that small.
3. Vampire bat
Probably one of the most misrepresented animals in the world. I love these guys, they're so cute! And biologically cool as FUCK. They're the only bats that can take off from the ground, and also the only ones that can run along the ground. These guys fucking GALLOP. They have thermoreceptors in their noses and it's been suggested they may be able to see/sense infrared as well. If you haven't seen these guys walking around and taking off, you really should change that they're some of the most ridiculous little guys I've ever seen.
2. Brown Long Eared Bat
They're just too fucking cute to not love. Look at this little guy. He can hear everything. They're also endemic to the UK so it's likley I've seen them in the wild before which is!!!!!!! so fucking cool!!!!!!!!!!! I love them so much. What a guy. Also they're teeny tiny, but among uk bat species fairly large if I remember correctly.
1. Pipistrelles (all of them)
My favourite animal ever. look at it. I'll let these photos do the talking because this is the most perfect creature to walk (fly??) the earth.
Common pipistrelles are the most common bat in the UK! They're found all throghout Europe, and in parts of Africa and Asia too. They have a very uhh meandering, flittery flight pattern, and are fucking tiny. If you've seen a bat and you live in europe, it was probably a Common Pip!!
There's also the Soprano Pipistrelle, which echolocates at a higher pitch than the common and was only found to be a seperate species in 1999!!!!! There's also Nathusius's pipistrelle, which is a little larger than the common and soprano. I love them all so much. They're just little guys.

i cant un-biased-ly make assumptions based on your writing alone but i assume that while you like horror there are kinds you like more that others. you write a lot of horror you can grab with your hands and not so much horror that floats around. i know exactly what i mean by this.
You're very right. I love viceral horror, the palpable stuff. I'm no good with the floaty stuff. It's cool when pulled off right but. I'm making grabby hands at the air right now. I wanna snatch that horror and force it into the shape I want it to be, and I want it to red and pulsing and oozing. If that makes sense.
