Hey hi, for the person wanting no periods, i suggest getting the depo shot. Its one shot in your butt cheek once every 3 months. It does have long term side effects of bone deterioration but if youre young it shouldn't matter much. But i dont suggest skipping the placebo pill as you only get a year supply at a time and if you skip the week, you run out quicker and the nurses will give you the 3rd degree as to why youve ran out so quickly, happened to me a few months ago lol
Tell your doctor that youāre going on the pill specifically to skip your period and they should give you extra prescriptions a year. I havenāt had any problems getting my pills, and Iāve been on them over a year now. Walgreens even sends me a headās up to renew my prescription every two and a half weeks or so. I know that not everyone is so lucky to have good doctor experience, but lemme talk a bit and explain why I mentioned this specifically:
Now, I do suggest people specifically talk this over with their doctor (and if your doctor brushes you off, ask for someone else!) because we all react to different forms of bc in different ways. The depo shot is one of the better guarantees to not have a period, but some people find that they simply have lighter and shorter periods. Which is probably better than usual but not the same as not having a period. (And I originally decided against depo because I knew I was probably gonna lose insurance soonish and I was going to be moving, so setting up appointments with a new doctor could be hard and more than I could handle. Thereās a lot of factors to think about!)Ā A lot of people just a few months ago were suggesting the implant to skip periods, but my doctor and I decided against the implant because it can also cause prolonged, heavy bleeding (if you experience that, you should absolutely go talk to your doctor)! Just like some people can still have spotting sometimes on the pill even skipping placebo week. The only reason I specifically mentioned skipping placebo week is because a lot of people straight up donāt know you can. I just wanted to mention it so people knew it was an option.
However, youāre totally right: I should have been more specific about that! What I really want to push people is to communicate their needs with their doctor. If youāve got a good doctor, they should understand and support someone wanting to stop their period. You absolutely do not have to come out to express this wish. They should go over all your options and you can decide after that what you want to get. That way you can really take into considering: travel, how good your memory is for shorter-term appointments (like taking a pill or the nuvaring), insurance, price, health, etc. And know that it might take a little experimentation to find the right method for you! I started out on nuvaring after really wanting to avoid pills and for various reasons, ended up on the pill and happy after all. Plus, talking with your doctor will give you a headās up on if theyāre the right doctor for you or not! We all deserve a say in our healthcare. Letās practice speaking up for ourselves!
