Sorry I've not been partaking in the boops you're all doing, but I'm not in the mood today. And I shall explain why under the read more cut, because it contains potentially triggering info.
My brother has been diagnosed with colon cancer. He told us yesterday, but I think he's been keeping it quiet for a few days prior. He doesn't seem worried at all, though he's always been incredibly chill and nothing worries him, he says he doesn't feel ill, and the doctors are optimistic. He's still young, and he's very fit and otherwise healthy. So I believe he will be fine.
I'm still devastated. And so is my mum. We're both worriers, and my mind especially always goes to the worst case scenario, so I'm fucking terrified.
I know this looks bad with us being told on the 1st April, which is why I waited til now to post, so you wouldn't think I'm joking. I'd never joke about that anyway. To be honest, I wasn't going to say anything at all, but... I don't know, this is as much a blog as anything else, and a blog is essentially a diary that other people can read. I want you all to know that I'm dealing with something right now, and although I think it's going to be okay, I'm still having a rough time.

Cookie Run Rarepair Week Prompt 1: Sick Day [Cyborg x Knight]
Zooming past castle gates, and thankfully not through them, a chipper Cyborg would rush their way through hall after hall of the Hollyberrian Kingdom's castle. It was with a smile as wide as a typical kingdom goer's stomach after a feast that Cy would slam open the door to their beloved's resting quarters. Sure, it had gotten a yell from the nervous blonde that lay in his bed, but this was typical for the both of them. It was only the coughs afterward that had caught Cyborg's attention. They hadn't heard those sounds before!
Floating themself beside Knight's bed, the half-bot would look down at the royal guard with a mix of joy and curiosity. "Knighty, you silly blondie, what are you doing in bed this late? Here I thought you'd be up and at 'em already!" The knight shuffled beneath the blankets of his bed, the adrenaline from his initial scare dying down as he looked up to the partly organic being with a weak smile. The bags under his eyes and the way his smile wobbled at the ends were indications to Cyborg that something was wrong. They didn't say anything of it, thinking that Knight would give an explanation for them. "Ah, I wish I couldā¦" Knight began, voice hoarse. "I was even supposed to train with Wildberry today, and I know you do not know him, but⦠he's very important."
Cyborg would cock their head to the side, trying to prompt the explanation out of him. It did. "But⦠it seems I have caught a bug of some kind. Princess told me she'd assign a temporary knight while I rest, but-ā¦"
"Then why don't you run your anti-virus?" Cyborg would blurt out, offering a solution in the way that they understood. The blonde would look at them, giving a breathy laugh and shaking his head. "We don't have anything like that unless you count our uh⦠immune system?" Cyborg would give a puzzled expression through their visor's LEDs, plopping beside Knight on the bed, causing a bounce that prompted a small 'woah-' from the guardsman. "Then run your im⦠immunnie⦠ssyyyyst⦠whatever it is! I'm sure that'll get you back in shape sooner than later! And I can watch you train!"
"No, Cy, that's⦠that's not how it works." Knight could give another chuckle, though it was interrupted with a small coughing fit. "Excuse me- ah, but- It's not that easy for us. Our bodies work independently of what we want, and we can only really um⦠influence what it does. Like with food and rest. Which is what I'm doing."
There was a soft whirr of Cyborg's internal engine as they processed the explanation. Or, at least⦠tried to process it. "So, like, plants or something? How you can only do so much for them?" Something scratched the back of their mind about that, in a way that they didn't particularly like. They'd hum and brush away the thought, instead looking for food in Knight's room that he would be used for treatment. There's water, sure, but⦠"Hey, wait a second! You only have rest! We need to get you some food!"
Knight would run a hand through his hair, grateful for the concern, even if they were a little much. They were more than endearing. "I know, I know. One of the chefs is preparing some for me so-"
"I WILL GO GET THE FOOD TO CURE YOUR BUG!!"
"My sweet battery, you don't need to-"
Too late! Cyborg already blasted themself out of the room, busting open the door to Knight's quarters the wrong way in the process. Ah, well, uh⦠better than last time, the guard supposes.
One of the castle's servants poked their head in through the open doorway, leading to a slightly embarrassing moment for Knight. He attempted to laugh it off, pulling the blanket closer to himself as he addressed the servant to leave. "Who needs to worry about dragons when they're around, huh?" He'd joke, smiling with a small amount of wistfulness in his system. "Leave the door open. They, uh, might break it in the other way if we close it."
Headcanon Dump on Doctors and Medicine in Borderlands.
Warning: general discussion of illness and death.
I like to imagine that the borderlands 2 vault hunters frequently went up to Salvador with different plants and mushrooms they find to ask if something is edible or not.
Salvador probably liked to scare the other Vault hunters random scary bullshit about different plants and animals.
He doesnāt do it often though. He knows if he did they might not believe him when they come across something really bad.
Disease he takes seriously. Very seriously. He doesnāt joke about sickness at all.
Of all the horrifying things and eldritch abominations you can find on Pandora, a lot of people will say that sickness is the scariest thing.
Medicine is harder to come by than competent doctors. Good doctors that actively want to help people are even rarer.
Youāre lucky enough to have someone sit with you in your last moments.
Dr. Zed is a skilled surgeon. He might not know all the names of all the bones but when he sees it he knows where it needs to be.
The same goes for organs. He knows what itās supposed to look like and where it goes, even if he doesnāt know what itās called or what itās name is.
Heās also got a good idea on what remedies to use for minor maladies such as a rash or a minor cold. Mostly because those remedies have been used for years.
In other words, his knowlege is more hands-on then technical.
Most doctors on central planets donāt do actual doctor stuff. Theyāll just run their patients through a scanner and read a chart. I imagine most check-ups are automated.
Pandora of course doesnāt have that kind of equipment, so thereās likely a lot of poking and prodding. Zed might even have a somewhat outdated biology text book near by to refer to.
Broken bones, cut off limbs, and flesh wounds are familiar to him, and he can fix you up on a jiffy.
If youāre sick, it becomes more complicated.Ā
Heāll ask you a series of questions and write down your answers, then tell you to increase your water intake and avoid smoking and drinking for awhile. He tells you to come back in a few weeks unless things get better.
If things donāt get better you return. He might have some bitter smelling thing for you to take. Heāll have you take it for an extended period of time and tell you to come back in a few more weeks.
If youāre not doing better when you return, and he asks about your living situation, you know itās serious.
Regardless of your reaction he remains where heās standing. Listening to your words, allowing you to sit in silence. He waits to speak until prompted.
He knows if you were at a hospital in a central planet youād be able to get help. He even mentions this on the chance that youāre able to leave the planet and do just that. Except the odds are that you canāt afford a shuttle off Pandora are incredibly high, so it feels more like an insult for him to mention it.
If youāre his friend heād let you punch him only once. He expects it and blames himself for not being able to find a better answer. He regrets not being able to help, and knows all the apologies in the world wonāt do a damn thing to save you. And he thinks that the physical sting will lessen the ache he feels in his chest.
He wonāt let a stranger hit him though. Heās strong enough to fight back, and he has experience having to wrestle patients into a gurney or examination table. Heād pin them down against the ground and give them a few choice words before apologizing and letting them go.
In the end all he can do is apologize and offer ways to be as comfortable as possible.
If you return in better health he lets out an audible sigh of relief, and admits he was afraid it was something worse.Ā
If heās your friend heāll even offer to buy you a beer in celebration, then nag at you for making him worry.
I managed to catch another flat tire in 3 months and I just... broke. Itās not my fault a screw the size of my thumbnail is in the tire, thereās no way to avoid that but... I bawled my eyes out waiting for my mum to help because I canāt bend over without falling with vertigo.Ā
So she yelled at me for crying for no reason and feeling sorry for myself.Ā
I am far beyond feelingĀ āsorryā for myself mum. But thanks. That really helped.
My dad would not have yelled at me. I miss him being himself so much, I wish so badly he could come back but heās not there anymore and I canāt even take care of him either. My mother says nothing but shit about him but why did the parent that loved me endlessly have to get sick first?
A shuddered breath held heat in the cold, stiff air of the lab. "H-has... Has it finally... worked...?" Though their words were hesitant, labored by the anxieties that wracked their form previously... The scientist's body wouldn't reflect such for much longer. The energy that enveloped their body was intoxicating- perhaps even addicting. "It- it has...!"Ā
Looking down into their shaking hands, the researcher that had put in so much time- oh so much time- into attempting this self-afflicted infection. Their body kept fighting it off, over and over, and yet now here they stand... Though their body is wracked with chills and their vision hazes over as heat rises into their cheeks, mouth watering as if wanting to reject something it can no longer prevent- their hands take ahold of their face, as if trying to assure that they are still within the confines of reality.
A slight cackle came from the maddened one, accidentally allowing drool to spill over from the sickeningly rapturous sensations that overwhelmed their form in the strongest means possible. And though they wished to speak more to themself, that laugh would grow- in volume and in insanity- as the repeated waves of illness-brought-strength dove deeper into their bodily systems.Ā
Would their organs fail? Would their vision give out? What does it matter to them!? Once this is over, who knows what could be achieved?! The city- the continent- the world could be under this ecstatic spell! With them as the source of it all! As it should be, and as it WILL be!

Not to pop on after awhile again just to complain but oh my god do I feel so sick rnš
My one coworker was out yesterday and is out again today with the stomach bug and when I woke up this morning and was immediately in the bathroom Iām like āoh noā but I havenāt actually gotten sick (yet). So Iām at work and Iāve also gotten my period today which has me almost doubled over with cramps but the nausea is back and Iām dying.
The youth coughs as something was wrong, the jewel shard in his back glowing only a little before dimming as he tries his best to control his shivers.
His body began to sway as he collapsed on the grass, was he getting sick?
No! This was bad!
He canāt stay here as demons might ambush when he is vulnerable!
His chest felt tight as his face turned pale, less color than usual as he then tries to get up only for his body to fall back down as he was too weak at the moment. He felt like his body was literally on fire yet he was trembling from violent shakes that didnāt seem to stop, he couldnāt think straight as he then loses consciousness from the dizziness and sudden sickness.
he knew, he could feel it in his bones just how bad his disease was getting, he knew that he had months if not weeks left. working, all he could do was work to get his mind off everything he was going through. he needed to get it done, he had to see the fruits of his labors, he needed to see the rocket actually work.
he wanted more than anything to be remembered for the work he's done, he didn't want to die in this world without leaving behind some sort of legacy.
