Genre: Hurt/Comfort, established relationship, fluff, age gap lowkey.. if House is 45, then reader is in like their late 20s, early 30s cause dance 💃
Notes: This is my first fic I’m writing since the Ethan Landry headcanons I wrote like a million years ago so be nice 💔 This could totally 100% be ooc I wrote all of this when I was really sleep deprived.. I also suck at writing things in character sigh 😞 I’m also rewriting all of it cause I was almost done with it and when I went to go save it as a draft it all deleted
Words: 1.5k
Tonight was finally the night. You were debuting as Roxie Hart in Chicago at the State Theatre New Jersey. After months of rehearsing, your big day has come.
And you had your biggest supporter of all right there beside you the whole time.
None other than Gregory House.
You would come home from rehearsals, feeling excited as ever to tell him about everything that you did. He tried to act like it was the worst thing you could ever show him.
“You’re just going from one side of the stage to another.”
He said, sounding all uninterested. But the way you had so much excitement in your eyes, made his gaze soften, even just a tad, while watching the videos.
And on your longest nights where you had tech, and you would come home exhausted, he was there. He could’ve had a much longer day at the hospital, but he would make sure to be there after your tech. Neither of you said much during those days. But, the silence you both sat in, curled up under a blanket, was more than enough.
Now, you’re in the bathroom of your shared apartment. Your makeup sprawled all over the counter. You wanted it to look perfect. You needed it to be perfect. This was your night.
“I thought you were in a musical, not in a circus.”
House said as he looked at you applying your makeup through the mirror. He leaned up against the doorframe, his cane resting on the opposite side. You rolled your eyes, but couldn’t help the smile from forming on your lips.
“Very funny. I need my makeup to be like this. The light makes me pale.”
You stated as you applied blush onto your cheeks. You applied more than what most would consider a normal amount to make sure your face is still glowing under the light.
After a lot of trial and error, you finally got your makeup to look exactly how you wanted it to. You had put your hair up so it could fit underneath the wig you needed to wear, and your costumes were already at the theatre. You turned around and saw him still staring at you.
“Can I help you?”
You hummed out with a smile, which made him look down at you. He stayed silent for a moment. Just staring at you. But, there was a softness in his eyes as he did look at you.
“Break a foot. Or whatever they say.”
He said with a lazy smirk, knowing damn well what the phrase is. He just wanted to see a reaction from you. You smiled and let out a laugh as you stepped closer to him.
“It’s break a leg. But thank you.”
You said with a smile. You both just sat in silence for a moment, staring at each other. Before you finally leaned in and pressed your lips against his for a kiss. It was soft, sweet, unrushed, and gentle. His hand found your hip instantly. After a moment, you pulled away and looked up at him.
“Who’s apart of the circus now?”
You asked with a giggle, reaching up and gently wiping away the lipstick that transferred to his lips. You carefully pulled out of his grasp and gently pushed past him to gather your things. You turned to him with a smile.
“I’ll see you after the show.”
You said, to which he nodded in response. And with that, you got into your car and left to the theatre.
You were dressed in the first costume, your wig was on, and the theatre was filling up fast. You were nervous, but you were also really excited. And in the middle of the audience, sat House and his little ducklings. And Wilson, of course.
When he had told them that he was dating an actress, they didn’t believe it. Hell, they didn’t even believe that he had a girlfriend. When he said that you were an actress, they immediately thought he had paid a hooker to indulge in his fantasies.
So, when he bought tickets to your show, they were shocked to say the least. But, they didn’t refuse to go see it.
So, now here they were. Sitting in the middle of the audience, waiting for the show to start.
And finally, the lights dimmed and the curtains raised. It started with Velma in the beginning of the show. And then you finally came on.
“That’s her?”
Chase whispered in shock. Foreman couldn’t believe it. He turned to House with furrowed eyebrows.
“How much did you pay her?”
He asked as he turned back to focus on the show. Cameron just watched in amazement. She thought you were gorgeous. And Wilson. Well, Wilson already knew about you two.
“That’s my girl.”
He muttered under his breath, a slight smile on his lips.
Song after song, the cheers for you got louder. Everything was going great for you. Until it suddenly didn’t
You were in the middle of ‘Me and My Baby’, you were dancing and jumping from one side of the stage to another. When suddenly, you landed wrong on your foot. You fell and hit the ground hard.
Gasps erupted from the audience. House’s breath hitched as he saw you hit the ground, but he tried to play it cool.
“That’s supposed to happen.”
He said, waving a hand in the air like it was nothing. But, when the house lights came up and the curtain closed, he knew this was much more serious than a little tumble.
He got up with his cane and limped his way to the stage. Security tried to stop him multiple times, but he just limped past them.
He made his way behind the curtain, and the sight before him made his heart shatter. You were on the ground, tears streaming down your face as you laid there, your leg in a position that it definitely shouldn’t be in.
“Hey.. I’m right here.”
He said, kneeling down besides you. His leg was screaming at him to get up, but your leg was what mattered to him the most. He pressed two fingers to your leg and just the lightest touch made you whimper in pain. He pulled away instantly.
“I’ve got you.”
He said before calling Wilson on his phone to tell him to bring his car up front. He picked you up and carried you in his arms, carefully removing the wig from your head. He carried you out to Wilson’s car and they drove you to the hospital.
The next few hours felt like a blur to you. The amount of x-rays, physical exams on your leg, and then casting it. You laid weakly in the hospital bed, slowly waking up. They decided to keep you there for the night from how much an impact you had done to yourself.
You turned over and through the blurriness of your eyes, you could make out House’s figure. He sat in the chair beside the bed, cane in between his hands, head down staring at the ground. He hadn’t left your side for a minute. Even if you weren’t fully aware of what was going on.
“House..”
You whispered weakly as you stared at him. His head looked up and saw you awake. He got up and limped over to you, his hand brushing back your hair.
“Hey.”
He said, staring down at you. You stared right back at him, sitting in a beat of silence.
“How are you feeling?”
“A lot of things.. tired, in pain, frustrated..”
You said quietly, your hand slowly finding his. Your fingers grazed his gently as you stared at him.
“When I told you to break a leg, I didn’t mean literally.”
He said, looking down at you. You rolled your eyes at that smirk he had on his face, but you had your own faint smile on your lips. His gaze softened as he stared at you.
“You’re stuck in that cast for 6 weeks.”
He said, watching as your face dropped at that. You ran a hand through your hair before sighing quietly.
“That’s majority of the production..”
You mumbled to yourself with a sigh. His thumb grazed the back of your hand. He would never admit or show it, but he hated how upset you looked.
“You’ll be back on your feet in no time. I’m sure they’ll make an exception for you.
He said, sitting back down into the chair, not letting go of your hand. You just sighed and leaned your head back against the pillow, your eyes fluttering shut. You just wished this was all a dream.
6 weeks had gone by, and you were stuck at home. But the cast was finally off. House took care of you as best as he could at home, but he made it seem like every little thing was an inconvenience. But it really wasn’t.
You were finally able to get back into your performance now that the cast was off. They had extended the run to give you a bit more time as Roxie.
You were getting ready in the bathroom. The same way you did on opening night. He just stared at you. When you finished, you turned towards him and smiled.
“Break a leg. But, not literally this time.”
He said, leaning down and pressing a kiss to the crown of your head. You giggled and gathered your things, and headed off to the theatre once again.

Part 1 !!!
(This takes place immediately after part 1)
House stared off, lost in thought for a few moments, before suddenly getting up from the clinic bed. He grabbed his cane and left the clinic office, going straight to the office of the Dean of Medicine.
He walked in without knocking or anything. As he usually did. She just stared up at him for a moment, waiting for what would come out of his mouth.
“I need you to be my girlfriend.”
“House. What?”
Cuddy asked him, furrowing her eyebrows. He didn’t move. His expression didn’t falter either. She was beyond confused.
“House, you know I’m—“
She started before cutting herself off, not wanting to risk the chance of someone barging in mid sentence.
House was the only one who knew about her being a lesbian. Not even Wilson knew. As much as she hates to admit it, they’ve been by each other through thick and thin. She hated saying it, but deep down she did trust him. Well, with certain things. And as much of an asshole he is, he’d never out her. Maybe he’d out his team, but not her.
“Yes, I know that.”
He sighed out, which only left Cuddy even more confused than she already was. She placed her hands on her desk as she leaned forward slightly, her eyebrows still furrowed.
“So.. you know I’m.. that.. and you’re asking me to be your girlfriend. I’m sorry House, but that is one of the stu—“
“I don’t need you to actually be my girlfriend, Cuddy.”
He cut her off, looking away slightly. He had both hands placed over his cane, his broken hand over the other to not place much pressure on it. He sighed as he didn’t meet her gaze.
“I need you to pretend to be my girlfriend. To send Wilson haywire.”
He said, still not meeting her gaze. Her eyebrows relaxed when she realized what he was trying to do with this. He might not say it out loud, but with the circumstances of her with him, she knew. Oh, she always knew.
She grinned as she stood up and walked in front of her desk. She looked up at him, and he finally met her gaze, their blue eyes meeting each other.
“On one condition. You have to do a week’s worth of clinic duty.”
She said, to which he groaned in response. He pinched the bridge of his nose, his eyebrows furrowing. He knew he had no other choice. It was either he accepted and she did this for him, or he had to watch Wilson be all lovey dovey with cutthroat bitch.
“Fine. Fine, whatever.”
He finally agreed. She grinned when he agreed. He glanced behind him to make sure nobody was coming towards the office so that they wouldn’t hear what they, well, what House was planning.
“They’re going to that Italian restaurant downtown on Friday. Meet me there.”
He said, and before she could even respond, he was already limping out of her office. She sighed, but couldn’t help that slight smile on her lips.
The rest of the week came and went. House dealing with patients in his unit, and clinic duty, and Cuddy making sure he did his clinic duty, because otherwise the deal was off.
Wilson and Amber were at their shared apartment, getting ready for their night out. He had just finished tying his tie when he walked past the bathroom and saw Amber doing her makeup. He just watched her, with this fond smile on his lips.
Soon enough, they were both ready and headed out to the restaurant.
And by the time they got there, House was already there. They were mid conversation as they were entering when Amber saw him.
“What’s he doing here?”
She asked, to which Wilson turned his head and saw him standing by the host stand. He sighed and excused himself from Amber and went over to him.
“House, why are you doing here?”
He asked him, pinching the bridge of his nose with a sigh. He couldn’t believe that he was here. He knew he shouldn’t have told him his plans.
“What? This is a public restaurant. Are you the only one who can have a date?”
“A date?”
And as if right on cue, Cuddy walked into the restaurant. Her hair resting against her shoulders in her natural curls, wearing a red dress with matching red heels.
She walked over to House and smiled. And he grinned, keeping Wilson in the corner of his eyes. He leaned over and pressed a kiss to her lips. Or what it appeared to be a kiss on her lips. He ended up kissing the corner of her mouth, but with the angle it looked like her lips. (Heh stage kiss)
“Hey. You look gorgeous.”
He said as he pulled away, resting his hands on her waist. She looked up at him with a smile. Out of the corner of his eyes, he saw Wilson’s face of confusion turn into realization and his face paled.
He was frozen in his spot. There was no way, right? He had to be imagining that kiss and the way he was holding her. He rubbed his eyes and blinked, and when he looked back at the two, they were still there.
He genuinely could not believe what he was seeing. He was confused, and maybe even a bit jealous. No, he that couldn’t be true. He was happy with how he was now with Amber. Right?
Soon enough the two couples were taken to their tables. Cuddy and House were very engaged in their conversation. Hell, he barely even glanced over at Wilson.
But him and Amber on the other hand? Well, she was talking quite a bit. And Wilson? He couldn’t focus on a single thing. He would nod every now and then, but he wasn’t really listening to what she was saying. He kept glancing over at the other two, specifically House. He couldn’t believe it at all.
Why was he with her? After everything they’ve gone through together, he still got with her? He was so dumbfounded. And it wasn’t fair at all. That was *his* friend. That was *his* previous roommate. The person that he was able to lean on after three divorces. The person who—
“Oh my god..”
Wilson whispered under his breath. He was *jealous*. He was jealous of Cuddy. That she was with House. And that it wasn’t him with House.
He never would’ve thought that he was a gay man. He married three different women, and now was dating another woman. But, with those three marriages, they failed for a reason. He divorced Sam because their personalities didn’t line up, he cheated on Bonnie with Julie, and he divorced her because of his lack of commitment.
“Oh my god.”
He whispered again. He had never had a relationship with a woman that ever ended well. Even the attempts with dates, they never went that far either.
Was he actually gay?
“James? What’s wrong?”
“I— I need to go. I’m sorry, Amber.”
He said, abruptly standing up from his chair, putting money on the table and leaving the restaurant. And suddenly she was left alone and confused. And within moments, she huffed and left the restaurant as well, not wanting to be embarrassed and left there alone.
House noticed it. He noticed how he kept staring at him, even if he was more focused on Cuddy during the time. It was like he was watching the gears turning in Wilson’s head. And he watched him get up and leave. He turned to Cuddy once more, nodding for her to look. And when she did, he turned back towards him.
“Either you’re getting him back in your life, or you completely ruined your life with him.”
She stated, her blue eyes staring into his. And suddenly, his phone buzzed. He pulled it out of his pocket. It was from none other than Wilson.
“Tell me when you’re back at your apartment. We need to talk.”
Yippee part 2 !!! I’m sorry for leaving it on a cliff hanger 💔 I’ll try to get to it as soon as I can but May this year has genuinely been the busiest I’ve ever been sigh 😖 but I really hope you liked it that you’ll come back for part 3 🥹 I’ll make sure to tag you twin (and anyone else who wants to be tagged :3)
heloooo randy :D may your day be full of much joyousness and fun,, i would like to request aaaa LISA CUDDY X FTM READER !!! there is the obvious transphobia just by product of early 2000s humor and the early 2000s was truly just Like That so i think having cuddy fall for a trans man would 1. be massively indulgent for me and 2. i think introduce significant conflict that would make for a satisfying arc where suddenly the vague hypothetical trans person is no longer just an inautonomous entity that exists purely for the punchline of a joke but rather a prominent undeniably human person with agentic capacity that has a voice
you don’t by any means have to include the romance aspect of it if you’re not comfortable,, just a trans character having agency would be more than epicc
pretty pleasies and thank youuu,, :^]
“The risk I’m willing to take for you.”
Summary: You’re the first trans doctor in Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. And Cuddy is conflicted with how she feels about you because of the time being.
Pairings: Lisa Cuddy x ftm!reader
Genre: Internalized conflict, mention of transphobia, use of female language for reader like once in the beginning, yearning to earn 🙂↕️
Notes: HELLO !!!! I am so sorry this took so long to publish, I really hope you really like this after I made you wait for so long. I also really hope this matches your expectations 🙏
Words: 2.25k
You were fairly new to House’s team, just working for him for just under a year. Being the first, and only trans team member, you were typically the butt of House’s jokes and mockeries. But, despite that, you were smart. You knew what you were doing.
“Patient’s got seizures and weak legs.”
Said Foreman. You looked up from the files and over to him.
“Could be Meningioma.”
House laughed. He leaned against his cane as he stood at the head of the table in the office. He looked directly at you.
“Right, because the girl who thinks she’s a guy will know what’s wrong. It’s not Meningioma, this is just a patient overreacting to having epilepsy.”
Turns out you were right.
Cuddy didn’t know how she felt. She knew you were intelligent. Anyone with two eyes could see that. Yet, she felt conflicted with the fact you were trans. It was new to her completely. She had never met someone who was trans, let alone having them working under her.
When she had hired you, on your files it still said you were a female (because of the time being you couldn’t just go and change it that easily). So, she was shocked when she saw a man walk into her office for the interview.
She respected you, yes. She wasn’t going to be someone who went out of their way to be transphobic on purpose. Most of the time, she got your pronouns right, but every now and then she’d accidentally slip up from being used to your file, but she corrects herself.
She still has a hard time believing that you were born a female. She’d been questioning herself by the fact that she does think you’re handsome.
And she quite literally couldn’t tell anyone about this. Especially not House. House would absolutely tear her to shreds if he found out. She’d never hear the end of it.
But, she admired you. The way you didn’t let any comments affect you in any way. House’s comments wouldn’t stop you from doing a damn good job in your position. And she admired it.
She always thought that if she were in your shoes, she wouldn’t be able to take the harsh words from House well.
She sat in her office, head in her hands as she let out a sigh. She didn’t know what to do. Whether to own up to her feelings, or let them simmer within her and hope they just go away. She didn’t know what it was like to go out with a trans person. What if she did the wrong thing and ending up hurting you?
She huffed, shaking her head from those thoughts. She got up from her desk and walked out of her office, and going up to the floor where House’s office was. Her heels clacked against the floor, notifying anyone nearby that she was there.
She found you in the lab, running some tests House had made you do. You had bags under your eyes. It was one of those cases where House didn’t let you leave for days. You looked as if death was at your door and that it was calling your name.
“Doctor [Y/L/N].”
She said, in a softer tone than she expected. But, it caused you to look up at her. You gave her a tired smile and say up a bit straighter.
“Doctor Cuddy. What can I help you with?”
You hummed, trying to stay as positive as you could, despite the fact that you felt like you were going to pass out any minute.
She inhaled, staying quiet for a moment before speaking.
“You deserve a break when this is all done. You look like you’re working yourself to death here.”
A beat, then quieter.
“I’m inviting you to dinner after the case is over. There’s a restaurant downtown that just opened and I’ve wanted to try it, but no one to go with.”
You blinked, just staring at her. You couldn’t believe what you just heard. You were convinced that it was the tiredness taking over you. You didn’t respond for a good few seconds, which made her nervous. And then, you gave her a tired smile.
“Does the dinner come before or after I can sleep?”
To which, she let out a soft exhale of relief as she grinned at you.
“After. I’ll let you know more when the case is finished.”
And with that, she left the lab with her heart racing and a smile on her face.
The rest of the long week came and went, finally figuring out what was wrong with the patient. You were finally able to go home and rest.
And that’s exactly what you did. You slept for what felt like a whole day. Well, that was until your phone started ringing. You jolted awake at the sudden noise, and turned over, seeing your phone vibrating on the nightstand.
You rubbed your eyes before reaching over and grabbing it, flipping it open and putting it against your ear.
“Hello.?”
You asked groggily, to which you were met with a soft gasp on the other end of the line.
“I’m sorry, did I wake you?”
You heard from the other end. You smiled tiredly as you recognized the voice on the other end.
“No it’s fine, Cuddy.”
You reassured her, running your fingers through your hair. She let out a small sigh, a faint smile on her lips on her end.
“Well, I just wanted to call you to give you more details about the restaurant.”
She said, and then continuing to give you more information about the restaurant. You nodded to yourself as you processed the information.
“I made us a reservation at 7, so I’ll see you then.”
To which you gave a hum of agreement. You both hung up and you shut your phone. You glanced over at the clock. 3pm. You had time.
And then you fell back asleep until around 5:30.
When you awoke, you felt a lot more refreshed than you did the first time you woke up. You got out of bed, going to the bathroom to be able to shower and freshen up.
When you had gotten out, you looked through your closet, trying to find something that was somewhat decent. You didn’t know what kind of restaurant this would be. Whether it was high-end, or just a casual dinner, you weren’t sure. So, you decided on something more business casual so it could be fine for both.
You slipped on your clothing and finished getting yourself ready, doing your hair, putting on any jewelry, etc. (if you want any of that 😛)
You checked the time and saw it was 6:15. You grabbed your phone and your keys and slipped out into the evening.
It wasn’t too bad of a drive, you just wanted to make sure you got there on time because you hadn’t been there before.
You parked your car when you had gotten there, stepping out and looked at the restaurant. It seemed like an in between of what you thought it could be, so that was great.
You made your way inside and inside you found Cuddy, waiting for you. She looked gorgeous.
Her natural curls sitting on her shoulders, her makeup done, while wearing a dark red dress with matching heels.
When she saw you, a gentle smile formed on her lips as her heart raced in her chest. She stepped forward and got closer to you.
“[Y/L/N], you made it. You look great.”
She greeted you, her eyes meeting yours. You gave her a warm smile, your hands in your pockets.
“‘Course I did. And I could say the same about you.”
You weren’t lying. You thought she truly was gorgeous. But, you believed she would never want to be with someone like you.
“Thank you.”
She said, that gentle smile on her lips still, her cheeks tinted a slight pink. You blinked, thinking you were seeing things.
The both of you stood in silence for a moment before the host called her name to say that there was a table ready.
You both followed the man to your table, pulling the chair out for her before you sat yourself across from her.
You both glanced at the menu, and she stayed quiet for a moment before glancing up at you.
“Would you care to share a bottle of wine?”
She offered, her gaze searching yours to see how you would react. You glanced up from the menu and let her words sit in the air for a moment before finally giving a small nod.
“Yeah. I’d like that.”
You accepted her offer with a gentle smile. She glanced back down at the menu as you discussed the wine options. (I’m not going into it cause I know NOTHING about alcohol..)
The waiter came over and took both of your orders, leaving with the menus as well. You both sat in silence for a few moments before she spoke up.
“[Y/L/N], I invited you here because I wanted to talk to you about something.”
And your heart sank. Your thoughts immediately began to flood with possibilities of where this could be going. You thought this dinner was to give you a break. Were you getting fired and this was the lightest way she could tell it to you?
“I’ve.. well, I actually don’t know how to put this.”
She starts, her fingers playing with the ends of her dress. At her words, your face paled. You balled your hands into fists in your lap, squeezing them tight, then loosening, and then tightening again.
“Are you firing me?”
“No! God, no. You’re one of the best we have in the hospital. And one of the few who can manage to deal with House.”
She quickly reassured you, realizing that her first comment came off as it sounding that she was firing you. You relaxed quite a bit when she said she wasn’t firing you.
She inhaled quietly, shutting her eyes for a moment. She was *so* conflicted. It was an internal war with herself. With how society was, she could be shamed, and even fired if something were to happen here and anyone were to find out.
“[Y/L/N], you’re a handsome guy.”
She started, and her words made your cheeks tint pink. Your eyes searched her face, trying to figure out what she wanted to say through her expression, but you couldn’t read it.
“Thank you, Cuddy.”
“And because of that, I’ve been conflicted with myself.”
You furrowed your eyebrows at those words. You kept trying to read her expression, but she was giving you nothing to work with.
She inhaled and was about to continue when the waiter came with the wine. He served it to the both of you and left the bottle before leaving you two alone again.
“I’ve never had someone who is trans in my life. Like ever. Until you came along. And I’ve been trying to shove these feelings down, because *I* don’t know how I feel about them, but they just won’t go away. And I just—“
You cut her off from her rambling as you reached over and took her hand in yours. Her breath hitched as she looked up at you. You didn’t even realize what you were doing until it had already been done.
“I know. I get it. It’s weird having a type of person you’re not used to being around suddenly involved in your life.”
“That’s not the point I’m trying to make. Well, it is, but—“
She cut herself off. She needed a moment. She took a deep breath, letting herself relax for a moment. She gave your hand a squeeze as if to stable herself.
“I don’t know what to do with my feelings for you when I like you, [Y/L/N].”
Now your breath hitched. You looked at her, trying to find some fault in her eyes. But, there was none. She was being 100% serious.
“Cuddy, I— I don’t know what to say.”
You admitted to which she froze slightly. And you caught that completely. You gave her hand a squeeze of reassurance.
“I didn’t mean that in a bad way! It’s just— you’re gorgeous and you make my heart race every time I see you and I mean.. I don’t want you risking your job for me.”
You said, your tone quieter at the last part. Your gaze softening as you looked at her. She glanced down at her lap, letting out an exhale before glancing back up at you.
“If something were to happen between us, it would be a violation of the hospital..”
She started, knowing that practically in any job it’s a violation dating someone in the work place, especially when one is the other’s boss.
“But, I’m willing to take that risk.”
She said with a gentle smile, to which you returned that smile. You gave her hand a gentle squeeze before speaking.
“Then I’m willing to as well.”
You said before grabbing your glass with your free hand and held it up to her. She grabbed hers and clinked it with yours. She took a sip from her glass, but instead of doing that yourself, you pulled her hand closer and closer until your lips met the back of her hand.
Because for the first time since you’ve transitioned, you’ve found someone who sees you for who you are, and not just what you identify as.
I really hoped you like this and that it meets your expectations!! Again I am so sorry this took so long to get out 💔 but I hope you have a great rest of your day/night!!
Hiii, could you maybe write hilson? mostly house being angsty over unrequited love. just his inner monologue or like his character study, but it can contain dialogue too. i know it's overdone, but i don't care, it's so good. maybe even jealous house - not mad jealous, but sad and lonely jealous. whatever you like. work with what i gave you, give it your little spin, take stuff out, put stuff in. thanks in advance :p -Knoxious
“I hope you’re happy, but don’t be happier.”
Hello !!! Thank you for being my first request !! Eek yes I can totally do this !! Going off of what you said, my first thought was like, when Wilson was with Amber (obvi when she was alive.. or an au where she didn’t die, however you wanna imagine it). I’m also using the paperweight scene cause like.. idk I really like that scene 😛 that sounds bad but like I mean like it feels like a good scene I could use for it. Also yes ik it’s an Olivia Rodrigo quote (I don’t even listen to her all that much.. 🧍) but this was the first thing I could think of with that prompt— but I hope you enjoy!! If there’s something that isn’t to your liking, lmk and I’ll try to make a part two if anything !!
Summary: House is envious over how happy Wilson has been in his new relationship with Amber. He hates how he’s more happier with her than he is with him. How he has everything he can’t.
Pairings: Gregory House x James Wilson (but not really poor House 💔)
Genre: Angst, unrequited love, lonely House, jealousy, umm I’m not really good with genres atm but I think that’s it 🥹
Warnings: Nothing other than angst.. if that can be put as a warning
Words: 1.08k
House had noticed it. He had noticed it for much longer than he’d like to admit.
The way Wilson was less tense. The way his eyes softened whenever he saw her. The way he laughed a bit more whenever he was with her.
He hated it. He hated that he was happier with the cutthroat bitch than he was with him. He hated that he was more comfortable around her than he was with him.
Why couldn’t Wilson be that way with him? After everything they’ve been through. After how many years they’ve worked together. After being by his side after all of failed marriages. After he bailed him out and cleared his name for crying out loud!
And yet.
Wilson looked more like himself around Amber than he ever did with him. And it destroyed him.
He sat at his desk, lost in thought. His leg was acting up, but he couldn’t even bring himself to take his Vicodin.
He tossed the giant tennis ball into the air, catching it with one hand a few times before putting it back down. He stared out into the distance. How ever since she had been introduced to him, he had been losing the only person he truly had in his life. The one he trusted with his life.
He longed for to have what Wilson had. Even if he would never admit it. He longed to have someone that would make him soften him up, even just a bit. Someone who would hear him out on things.
Someone like Wilson.
Without thinking, he had smashed his hand with the paperweight that he had on his desk. He snapped out of his thoughts when he felt it hit his hand. He groaned as he pushed the paperweight away, looking at his hand that was clearly broken.
“Fuck.”
He muttered under his breath before standing up. He grabbed his cane before standing up. He limped out of his office and went towards Wilson’s office. He could easily cast his hand up himself, but there was something in the fact that Wilson could help him somehow helped relieve a bit of pain.
He went into Wilson’s office without even knocking. As he usually does. Before he could say anything, he looked at him. He was on the phone with none other than Amber.
“Hold on, I’ll call you back. I love you.”
Wilson said into the phone, a slight smile on his lips. It made House’s stomach turn. He watched as he hung up the phone with a sigh as he looked up at him.
“What do you want, House?”
He asked, that smile and softened look in his eyes fading was he looked up at the taller man. And somehow, that hurt House more than the pain in both his leg and his hand did.
“My hand. I need a cast.”
He said, holding up his broken hand to show it to him. Wilson sighed as he saw the hand, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Again? I could’ve written you up another prescription of Vicodin if you needed more.”
He said as he stood up, looking at his hand.
“That would take too much time.”
He said as he started for the door. They both went towards the clinic area. He sat on the clinic’s bed while Wilson gathered the things he needed to be able to cast his hand.
“How’s cutthroat bitch?”
House asked, looking down at his hand, which was starting to bruise from the impact of the paperweight. Wilson sighed as he looked over his shoulder at him.
“Amber? She’s great. Yeah, she’s real lovely.”
He said, the lightness in his voice showed how much she meant to him. And it felt like a knife getting twisted in House’s heart.
Wilson started to wrap House’s hand in the cotton padding. He just watched for a few moments in silence before he spoke.
“What’s so great about her that you abandon your friend?”
He asked, trying to play it off as a sarcastic remark he would usually make, but the actual want of an answer was able to be heard in his tone.
Wilson stop wrapping his wrist for a moment, before sighing and continuing.
“House..”
He started, trying to change the subject. But he knew that House was too stubborn to be able to change the subject.
“No, really, Wilson. You’ve stopped sitting with me at lunch. You’ve stopped visiting me in my office. I have to page you to get you to see me.”
House continued, staring up at Wilson with his piercing blue eyes. He sounded like a girl in middle school who was confronting her boyfriend for not sharing a snack with her. And yeah, maybe he did feel like that too. Because who was he to abandon the guy who bailed him out?
“Maybe it’s because she doesn’t insult and belittle me every time she sees me, House. Or maybe it’s the fact she actually cares about me.”
Wilson stated, looking at him. He was tired of conversations like this with him. Every time he tried searching for love again, House would somehow ruin it for him.
“Can’t you just be happy for me for once?”
He asked out, finishing with the casting on his hand and putting the plastic brace over it. His words made House pause for a moment. He searched his face, trying to read his expression.
It was then that he realized that Wilson was happy with her. That he didn’t want someone like him. Someone who didn’t have an addiction to pills, or didn’t need to insult or mock someone.
Wilson had found his person. He didn’t need someone like him pulling him down.
“I am happy for you, Wilson.”
House said, his voice a lot weaker than it was a few seconds ago. And that made Wilson freeze. He wasn’t expecting that from him at all. He cleared his throat and nodded.
“Well, thank you, House.”
A beat.
“Don’t put too much pressure on that hand.”
He said before taking a glance at him one last time before walking out of the room. House sat there for a few moments, just staring at the wall in front of him. He let out a sigh when he realized he was alone. Again. Like he usually was. And he knew that he most likely would be for the rest of his life.
“Just don’t be happier than you were when we first met.”
