Tonight was finally the night. You were debuting as Roxie Hart in Chicago at the State Theatre New Jersey. After months of rehearsing, your big day has come.
And you had your biggest supporter of all right there beside you the whole time.
None other than Gregory House.
You would come home from rehearsals, feeling excited as ever to tell him about everything that you did. He tried to act like it was the worst thing you could ever show him.
“You’re just going from one side of the stage to another.”
He said, sounding all uninterested. But the way you had so much excitement in your eyes, made his gaze soften, even just a tad, while watching the videos.
And on your longest nights where you had tech, and you would come home exhausted, he was there. He could’ve had a much longer day at the hospital, but he would make sure to be there after your tech. Neither of you said much during those days. But, the silence you both sat in, curled up under a blanket, was more than enough.
Now, you’re in the bathroom of your shared apartment. Your makeup sprawled all over the counter. You wanted it to look perfect. You needed it to be perfect. This was your night.
“I thought you were in a musical, not in a circus.”
House said as he looked at you applying your makeup through the mirror. He leaned up against the doorframe, his cane resting on the opposite side. You rolled your eyes, but couldn’t help the smile from forming on your lips.
“Very funny. I need my makeup to be like this. The light makes me pale.”
You stated as you applied blush onto your cheeks. You applied more than what most would consider a normal amount to make sure your face is still glowing under the light.
After a lot of trial and error, you finally got your makeup to look exactly how you wanted it to. You had put your hair up so it could fit underneath the wig you needed to wear, and your costumes were already at the theatre. You turned around and saw him still staring at you.
“Can I help you?”
You hummed out with a smile, which made him look down at you. He stayed silent for a moment. Just staring at you. But, there was a softness in his eyes as he did look at you.
“Break a foot. Or whatever they say.”
He said with a lazy smirk, knowing damn well what the phrase is. He just wanted to see a reaction from you. You smiled and let out a laugh as you stepped closer to him.
“It’s break a leg. But thank you.”
You said with a smile. You both just sat in silence for a moment, staring at each other. Before you finally leaned in and pressed your lips against his for a kiss. It was soft, sweet, unrushed, and gentle. His hand found your hip instantly. After a moment, you pulled away and looked up at him.
“Who’s apart of the circus now?”
You asked with a giggle, reaching up and gently wiping away the lipstick that transferred to his lips. You carefully pulled out of his grasp and gently pushed past him to gather your things. You turned to him with a smile.
“I’ll see you after the show.”
You said, to which he nodded in response. And with that, you got into your car and left to the theatre.
You were dressed in the first costume, your wig was on, and the theatre was filling up fast. You were nervous, but you were also really excited. And in the middle of the audience, sat House and his little ducklings. And Wilson, of course.
When he had told them that he was dating an actress, they didn’t believe it. Hell, they didn’t even believe that he had a girlfriend. When he said that you were an actress, they immediately thought he had paid a hooker to indulge in his fantasies.
So, when he bought tickets to your show, they were shocked to say the least. But, they didn’t refuse to go see it.
So, now here they were. Sitting in the middle of the audience, waiting for the show to start.
And finally, the lights dimmed and the curtains raised. It started with Velma in the beginning of the show. And then you finally came on.
“That’s her?”
Chase whispered in shock. Foreman couldn’t believe it. He turned to House with furrowed eyebrows.
“How much did you pay her?”
He asked as he turned back to focus on the show. Cameron just watched in amazement. She thought you were gorgeous. And Wilson. Well, Wilson already knew about you two.
“That’s my girl.”
He muttered under his breath, a slight smile on his lips.
Song after song, the cheers for you got louder. Everything was going great for you. Until it suddenly didn’t
You were in the middle of ‘Me and My Baby’, you were dancing and jumping from one side of the stage to another. When suddenly, you landed wrong on your foot. You fell and hit the ground hard.
Gasps erupted from the audience. House’s breath hitched as he saw you hit the ground, but he tried to play it cool.
“That’s supposed to happen.”
He said, waving a hand in the air like it was nothing. But, when the house lights came up and the curtain closed, he knew this was much more serious than a little tumble.
He got up with his cane and limped his way to the stage. Security tried to stop him multiple times, but he just limped past them.
He made his way behind the curtain, and the sight before him made his heart shatter. You were on the ground, tears streaming down your face as you laid there, your leg in a position that it definitely shouldn’t be in.
“Hey.. I’m right here.”
He said, kneeling down besides you. His leg was screaming at him to get up, but your leg was what mattered to him the most. He pressed two fingers to your leg and just the lightest touch made you whimper in pain. He pulled away instantly.
“I’ve got you.”
He said before calling Wilson on his phone to tell him to bring his car up front. He picked you up and carried you in his arms, carefully removing the wig from your head. He carried you out to Wilson’s car and they drove you to the hospital.
The next few hours felt like a blur to you. The amount of x-rays, physical exams on your leg, and then casting it. You laid weakly in the hospital bed, slowly waking up. They decided to keep you there for the night from how much an impact you had done to yourself.
You turned over and through the blurriness of your eyes, you could make out House’s figure. He sat in the chair beside the bed, cane in between his hands, head down staring at the ground. He hadn’t left your side for a minute. Even if you weren’t fully aware of what was going on.
“House..”
You whispered weakly as you stared at him. His head looked up and saw you awake. He got up and limped over to you, his hand brushing back your hair.
“Hey.”
He said, staring down at you. You stared right back at him, sitting in a beat of silence.
“How are you feeling?”
“A lot of things.. tired, in pain, frustrated..”
You said quietly, your hand slowly finding his. Your fingers grazed his gently as you stared at him.
“When I told you to break a leg, I didn’t mean literally.”
He said, looking down at you. You rolled your eyes at that smirk he had on his face, but you had your own faint smile on your lips. His gaze softened as he stared at you.
“You’re stuck in that cast for 6 weeks.”
He said, watching as your face dropped at that. You ran a hand through your hair before sighing quietly.
“That’s majority of the production..”
You mumbled to yourself with a sigh. His thumb grazed the back of your hand. He would never admit or show it, but he hated how upset you looked.
“You’ll be back on your feet in no time. I’m sure they’ll make an exception for you.
He said, sitting back down into the chair, not letting go of your hand. You just sighed and leaned your head back against the pillow, your eyes fluttering shut. You just wished this was all a dream.
6 weeks had gone by, and you were stuck at home. But the cast was finally off. House took care of you as best as he could at home, but he made it seem like every little thing was an inconvenience. But it really wasn’t.
You were finally able to get back into your performance now that the cast was off. They had extended the run to give you a bit more time as Roxie.
You were getting ready in the bathroom. The same way you did on opening night. He just stared at you. When you finished, you turned towards him and smiled.
“Break a leg. But, not literally this time.”
He said, leaning down and pressing a kiss to the crown of your head. You giggled and gathered your things, and headed off to the theatre once again.
Sigh.. idk how to feel about this 🧍 but y’know it’s my first time writing since like a million years so be nice to me 🥹
